Yeah, I thought after Utah struggled against Oregon I would slip into #2. Nope.
Now I get to play Miami, a 2 loss team that will provide no challenge.

Big East just sucks. I don't know how to realistically make it a better conference without gutting the MWC. So they just get to be a non-AQ sucky conference.
When Boise State is going 10-2 in a conference you know it's legit.

BCS Bowl Rundown

It's that time of year. Bowl's start up in a few days, and we will have a preview later this weekend of all the bowl games.
But right now let's focus on the BCS Bowl Games.

2016 Orange Bowl
#12 Middle Tennessee State (11-1) vs #10 Georgia Tech (12-1)
After several years of trying, #12 Middle Tennessee State (11-1) has finally broken into the BCS. They get to play #10 Georgia Tech (12-1) who but for a heart breaking loss to in-state rival Georgia at home would be playing for the BCS National Championship.

Middle Tennessee State features the 7th ranked passing attack in the nation, and is very talented offensively. Unfortunately that's where their depth stops. They give up a lot of points to quality opponents, but also put up a lot.

Georgia Tech runs a balanced pro-style attack, and has a strong defensive core. They have a shortage of quality linebackers though, and MTSU can use that to their advantage. It looks like the BCS Busting Blue Raiders have the edge in this matchup. Keep in mind also that the Blue Raiders only lost to one team all year, the #3 Missouri Tigers (12-1).

Rose Bowl
#5 Ohio State (12-1) vs #4 Air Force (12-1)
Air Force is hardly a football superpower, but after their best season ever they are playing in their first ever BCS Bowl Game, and it is the Granddaddy of them all, the Rose Bowl!

Air Force brings their spread option attack in, and it's lethal. They are insanely balanced, with 2500 yards of rushing and 2750 yards passing on their year.
Ohio State brings in over 3000 yards of rushing, and 2250 yards of passing on the year.

Air Force is weak defensively on the line, which is where Ohio State is strong. The matchup will be interesting to watch, as Ohio State will nickle and dime their way down the field, and Air Force will go for the home runs.

Ohio State is too talented to drop another game this year, but Air Force is no pushover. Look for a tight game, won by the Buckeyes.

Sugar Bowl
#25 Kentucky (10-3) vs Cincinnati (8-4)
In the snoozer of the big games, Kentucky will take on Cincinnati in a matchup of the weakest AQ Conferences.

Kentucky should run away with this game, they are more talented overall. Cincinnati's Avery Johnson is an extremely talented wide receiver, 1300 yards and 17 TD's on the year. Unfortunately if he gets covered, which should happen, the Bearcats have nowhere else to go. The Wildcats should easily win.

2016 Fiesta Bowl
#3 Missouri (12-1) vs #6 Miami (10-2)
The Missouri Tigers truly believe they belong in the 2016 BCS National Championship after their #1 SOS schedule, compared to Utah's #61 SOS. However, the Tigers need to focus.

They won their first Fiesta Bowl in 2011, and then again in 2012. They won the Rose Bowl in 2013, and the BCS National Championship in 2014. Winning this game will make them 5-0 in BCS Games, and extend the Big XII's streak in BCS games to 8 straight games, dating back to 2010 when Texas lost to Alabama. Missouri also is 0-3 against Miami all time, dating back to 1988/1989 when Miami dubbed Missouri by a combined score of 93-7 in the two game series.

Miami hasn't been to the BCS in over a decade, but they are a good team. Missouri should be fine, Miami's strength is their running game, and the Tigers shut down the run pretty good. Missouri will easily protect against the pass also, so it should be a good rout unless Miami's defense makes the trip also.

BCS National Championship
#1 Nevada (13-0) vs #2 Utah (12-1)
Argue all you like that Missouri, Kansas, Ohio State, or some other one loss teams belongs in Utah's spot. But they are playing for the BCS National Championship.

Nevada is in the midst of their best season since their 13-1 run in 2010.
Utah and Nevada are almost dead even in stats and personell, Utah has more top recruits but Nevada has talent in key positions. Utah has more depth though, and more experience playing close games. However, Nevada played and beat two top 10 teams in Boise State and Air Force while Utah hasn't beaten any top 15 opponents.

Utah has the edge of playing their starters longer all year against tougher opponents, so they have seasoned players used to long periods of game time in tight games.

Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

Big XII gets rid of pod nature, goes to locked divisions in 2016

Well it appears the experimental pod nature of the Big XII has ended.
A vote held by the presidents apparently went 7-5 in favor of eliminating the pod nature. Arkansas, Missouri, Arizona, Arizona State and Iowa State voted in favor of the pod. Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Oklahoma State all voted against.

Kansas and Oklahoma led the charge, citing that rotating opponents doesn't allow as many locked in rivalries. The Big XII is apparently moving to a locked in division format similar to the SEC, one locked in cross divisional opponent and two rotating games.

Three division plans are currently submitted, and will be voted on in January.

Plan 1
Big XII North: Missouri, Iowa State, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Arizona
Big XII South: Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma State

Plan 1 pro's It is the traditional Big XII from 1996-2010, with Arizona State and Arkansas replacing Nebraska and Colorado, and Arizona replacing Texas A&M.

Plan 1 con's Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Arizona State will be locked away from playing the big money teams of Oklahoma and Texas consistently. Missouri and Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas, Kansas and Baylor, Kansas State and Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Iowa State, and Arizona/Arizona State are the proposed cross division games. This keeps Missouri, Iowa State, and Arizona State from guaranteeing games in their home state to Texas recruits.

Plan 2
Big XII North: Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arizona State
Big XII South: Arizona, Kansas State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas, Arkansas

Proposed cross division games:
Missouri/Arkansas, Oklahoma/Texas, Oklahoma State/Texas Tech, Baylor/Iowa State State, Kansas/Kansas State, Arizona/Arizona State.

This one meets less resistance. However, it still doesn't guarantee teams in the North games against Texas schools.

Plan 3
The least likely to be popular to fans, but the most popular to several school presidents.
Big XII _____: Missouri, Texas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Arizona

Big XII _____: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Arkansas, Arizona State, Baylor

The proposed cross games: Texas/OU, Kansas State/Kansas, Iowa State/Baylor, Arizona/Arizona State, Missouri/Arkansas.

Missouri is strongly opposed to this alignment as is Arkansas. Oklahoma is also not sold on this plan, although it does give them 2 games a year at least against Texas schools. They also would no longer have to face Missouri yearly, which has been costly to their ego lately.

Arkansas would lose their yearly game against Texas, and Missouri would lose their yearly games against Kansas and Oklahoma. If this measure passes, expect Missouri to fight fire with fire and possibly look at a new conference. Why? Because they don't want to have their rivalries with Kansas and OU go the way of the OU/Nebraska rivalry.

Game Notes
Missouri is a 55-38 late season to #7 Arkansas away from a BCS National Championship game berth.

Miami didn't even win their conference division, losing it to #11 Georgia Tech (12-1) who won the ACC but lost to Georgia at the end of the season, costing themselves a BCS National Championship berth.

Miami has the #1 pass defense, going up against Missouri's top 10 passing attack.

Miami has the 38th ranked rushing attack, spear headed by a pair of juniors. Missouri's goal this year was no more than 999 yards rushing allowed, but its doubtful they meet their goal.

Projection: Missouri 45, Miami 15

Missouri Tigers push Miami Hurriances to 0-5 in Fiesta Bowl

Tigers outgain Hurricanes 550 to 172 in 42-6 victory

The Fiesta Bowl is not something most Miami Hurricane Fans care to talk about.
Whether it's the 1985 battle vs UCLA, the heart breaking 1987 national championship loss to Penn State, the 29-0 drubbing to Arizona in 1994, or the lost national champion to Ohio State in 2003 it's just a sore subject.

The 2016 Fiesta Bowl was never in doubt, as Miami took the opening kickoff and started their drive at the 22 yard line. Jarod Steele threw a bullet to K. Hall from Missouri, who took it to the house for a 31 yard interception return and a 7-0 lead.

Miami marched down to the Tiger's 3 yard line before fumbling the ball, and Missouri took over on their own two yard line. 17 plays and 98 yards later, and the Tiger's were celebrating a 14-0 lead thanks to J. Ross's 3 yard dive.

After taking a 21-0 lead after one period, and a 35-0 lead after the first half Missouri let off the gas and coasted to the finish, allowing two Miami field goals, one in each period of the second half.

Missouri POTG: Nick Bailey went 17 for 21 for 211 yards and 1 TD
K. Hall had 5 tackles, 2 INT, and 1 defensive TD
J. Ross had 16 carries for 105 yards and 1 TD

"It was a great game, and I am proud to have seen us play so well," Joey Davis said about the Missouri Tigers effort. "When the defense plays so well, we gave up under 200 yards total all game, it's hard not to win. The offense played great also, it was never in doubt."

Utah edges Nevada 45-43 in triple OT

Nevada's perfect year came to a close in a bad way as Utah's Tyler Robinson dove into the endzone to end the 3rd overtime with a 2pt conversion, giving Utah the 45-43 victory.

Nevada played ahead the entire game, up 10-0 at halftime, and 24-14 at the end of the third quarter. Utah closed the gap and forced overtime at 27-apiece thanks to a 31 yard field goal that barely cleared the bar with 27 seconds left.

The Utes and Wolfpack each gained a touchdown in the first OT, and a field goal apiece in the second overtime, making it 37-37 going into the 3rd OT.

Nevada had the firepower, but lacked the depth, and it hurt late. They lose a lot of seniors this year, so don't expect a return to the BCS next season.

Other BCS Results
Fiesta Bowl #3 Missouri pounded #6 Miami 42-6
Orange Bowl #12 Middle Tennessee State thumped #10 Georgia Tech 54-35
Rose Bowl #5 Ohio State beat #4 Air Force 45-24
Sugar Bowl #25 Kentucky overcame Cincinatti 24-21
