2021, Game 3 31-17 W over Army

--------------------

Penn A&T Stymies Army Rushing Attack To Convincing 31-17 win

In lieu of a game story (played this over a week ago and was rushed out the door so I forget a ton of it), I'll add my quick analysis.

The first quarter was a total snooze fest, but it was great football. Essentially, Army had no shot after that, as the 4-2-5 completely decimated their rushing attack. Penn A&T filled almost every gap. Then add in the early scores by Devon Hackett and the first ever punt return for a touchdown by Donnell Raines and Penn A&T was in great shape early.

The run game wasn't dominant but was able to get multiple guys involved which is a great sign of the balance in the offense. We're still look for any ounce of a deep threat, but I just don't see it with this receiving corps.

Defensively, this might be the best defense we've ever had. The right mix of size, speed, and intelligence/experience. 15!! TFL and 6 sacks are incredible numbers against an offense that was supposedly stout, but it's still early so who knows what to expect from opponents. It's important to note that Army's QB ac Henley was forced from the game after a sack in the second quarter. He did return in the third, but was forced out again in the fourth, which led to Jonathan Moses having a solid little fourth quarter.

RB Devon Hackett gets the Dutchmen on the board in the second quarter

CB/KR/PR Donnell Raines slipped and sped his way past the Golden Knights special teams group for a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. It was the first in school history.

WR Marquez Turner hauls in second score of the season. The score capped off the 21 point outburst in the second quarter.

LB Antwan Norwood sacks Army QB Zac Henley in the second quarter.
The hit would force Henley from the game, however, he would return after half time.

Donnell Raines was injured in the third quarter returning a punt. He received a helmet-to-knee hit by Army DB Brigham Brown.
Since Brown wasn't leading with his head, he was not ejected from the contest, but Raines left the game with concussion like symptoms and his status for next week's game at Indiana is unknown.

Definitely one of those games you can't really prepare for and that you can't really take anything out of defensively regardless of what happens. With both your run games it could be one of the faster games in the NCAA this season, haha.

Also, Brian Adams feeling like its the "Summer of '69" eh? Haha, I'll see myself out. Fun fact, I google Georgia football and they have an unclaimed natty from the '68 season, so Summer of 69 was probably pretty good in Athens, tbh.
You're 100% right in that I didn't know how to prepare for this game, except that I was going to be forced into a lot of man blitzes, which luckily fits the 4-2-5 well. They really didn't have an answer for what we threw at them defensively, and once we knocked Henley out of the game, they didn't know whether to run or pass. I will say it was odd to see some of the decisions the CPU made when they did pass; it wasn't pretty.

Haha I really appreciate that reference for a persoanl inside joke with some friends. It adds some extra flavor, especially, if you look at the temperature of our game last week

Really good win for the Dutchmen! Jumping ahead 21-0 on an option team is certainly a great strategy, but their rushing attack really had no answer for the defense. That group really seems to be playing with a lot of confidence right now, which is helping the offense try to establish some consistency. The bookies need to start respecting Penn A&T already!

Another solid win, offense didn't do much but they didn't really need to when the defense is that dominant. You know Army is in trouble when they pass for more yards than they run for.

Coaches Corner

How will it feel facing off against your former program and players?

Your defense was able to hold up the highly rated Army offense. How will that transition to a tougher Indiana team with the #1 rated offense in the nation?

Three guys with 180 yards rushing or more, including Ryan (Franklin) who I think leads them in rushing

What your opinion of Ryan Franklin?

Re: Pennsylvania A&T (NCAA 14 Teambuilder Dynasty)

Outside of Franklin and Brown, I'm a little shocked Indiana is coming into this game with the top-ranked offense because the talent doesn't really suggest it based on the overalls. Franklin's speed will require a spy at all times though and he could single-handily make it difficult for Penn A&T, but I still think the Dutchmen's defense is playing well enough right now to hold the Hoosiers in check and move to 3-1.
