Do out of position penalties apply to pitchers?

For example using an RP as a SP or CP etc. I've always thought there was no penalty but now I'm wondering if there might be a reduction is attributes.

Not penalties for defense but for pitching.

Out of position penalties do not apply to pitchers. SP can be RP or CP and not sustain any drop in their attributes. Same goes for RP/CP to SP.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I've always thought. Not to challenge you but do you have a source for that?

What made me curious was I acquired a RP Cade Smith whose attributes indicate he should be the best closer in the game and he is a disaster. That made me wonder whether he suffered from being used as a closer.

Keep in mind that the game is designed to have players not always play well, so its not always predictable. Or not play well for a couple months and then suddenly heat up. I've seen this happen quite often.

            I'm aware of that.

I wouldnt mind seeing the SP RP and closer designation go away and AI Logic start relying on the Stamina attribute to decides a teams rotation and bullpen.

Also, I dont believe a relief pitcher starting a game or a starter relieving is "out of position."

I agree but there is a position penalty for position players and the game does divide pitchers into 3 categories. Another question is whether a LF gets a penalty for playing CF or RF. IRL there are some pitchers who put up great numbers as setup men but can't make it as closers.

Perhaps but starters and relievers have different routines prior to pitching. The game doesn't replicate that but starting pitchers have a routine for each day after a start leading up to the next start which is different from relief pitchers.
