It's hard to say what the marketing strategy is for a game like The Show, which comes out once a year. That said, with it being a new generation I'm viewing it (as a consumer) like a full fledged new game with a wider target market than just the core repeat buyers.

Most games have a marketing strategy that begins 6 months prior and culminates with launch. I would assume that The Show continues their push well into the season, trying to gain "mass-market" casual gamers.

There's obviously a strategy to all of this, but with PS4 gamers clamoring for new titles, one would think a little info would help gain traction.

We'll get info at some point, I'm certain of it.


But look at the audience that's asking for info. It's the audience that's buying the game regardless which equals to no added benefit.


Have you seen anyone post who's asking for info that's on the fence about buying the Show?

I dont think this thread or this forum is exactly the best barometer to gauge what the regular fan does. Most that post here are either hardcore show fans or at the least hardcore gamers. The Show has already said and admitted they want to grow the fan base and are willing to tweak things to intice them to be a part of that base and hardcore fans are a small sample of their target and buying audience. We are the minority, but vocal majority, especially on here. They get different feed back from many different places.

On any MLBTS forum or site, yeah, it's the core audience that is clamoring for info. While Icertainly am excited for info, I'm not beating my head in or drooling over it.

My post was musing more on the marketing strategy being taken towards all PS4 owners - an install base hungry for new games. I work in marketing for a living, and am sincerely intrigued by the minimal interaction with the mass audience (their FB page, etc.). It seems this install base is ready to buy.

All i know is when we do get info, it is going to be like Christmas for some.

But either way, this thread has taken a bad turn, it's suppose to be discussing the possibilities of the Show on ps4.

I think I know what you are trying to say and that has nothing to do with anything I posted.

That's a fair point.

But even taking it to a broader audience.


Do you think or see people (anywhere) clamoring for info on the Show to try and make their decision as to if they are going to buy it?

I dont know, I dont go to passive gamer weekly and ask if they have any interest in something they dont know about or have any way to know about it. This is the only site I frequent, unless a link takes me away from here.

I was just making the assertion you dont go to a website about eating hotdogs and asking if people like hot dogs there and then act surprised they talk about hot dogs and would want info about hot dogs. lol

I guess my point would be that I have friends, they arent huge gamers but are big baseball fans. They do however ask me all about The Show because Im a die hard and tell them about it whether they want to hear it or not. I have nothing to share. I have nothing to tell them. Im not on here complaining and constantly asking for info or posting about the boredom of not getting any, but Im not here wondering why people are bored, worried or want info. I instead have been working on a blog series no one wants to read lol and Custom covers no one else will do haha.

Personally I don't, and generally if you aren't going to benefit from doing something (that may cost even a little) you don't do it.


Like I said, I am almost certain we will get info, I just don't see a need to rush it out there (and I know that's not your assertation either).

Things I am certain of about MLB The Show....

- Both the PS3 and PS4 version will be released in 2014
- One of the versions is looking great....the other even better
- NEITHER version is merely a roster upgrade with slightly improved graphics
- the devs are crushing it right now....and it's likely why there is little out there right now
- the lack of info is not a marketing ploy or a cruel trick to **** with anyone's head
- if the release dates are different it's not to "get more money" out of the user base
- the fact that things are different this year IS NOT an indication that something is amiss.....it's just DIFFERENT

there is probably more....but I can't think of it right now.

I know Russel isnt hiding anywhere and is actively answering in the manner he does in the quick pitch thread, popping in and out and not taking too many direct questions...cause who has time for that. Answer one, 1000 more literally come up immediately. And that may be the case. Theyre still working. And answering one question will just start things in the wrong direction.

As far as info selling games? I actually think it would sell games. There isnt many options for titles out there right now, so it might make someone bored or disappointed with another next gen game a new customer. the only problem is in my city there are no consoles to buy so no need for a new or old game. I base this opinion on the fact that i dont know the roll out frame work or marketing strategy SCEA plans on doing this year..they may have something planned in a way that will catch a lot of new fans, but no one knows that so to think doing nothing is the right thing is as good of a guess as doing what the have always done wont get them any new fans.

I believe given the current lack of PS4 titles, info would sell games. That said, SCEA could be planning something huge we don't know about.

I'd be stoked if that was the date! Waiting until May is difficult for me to grasp. That two weeks makes a huge difference in my opinion.

I think they will release the most epic sports gaming trailer in history next week and we'll all be storming the SCEA studio in San Diego to make shrines, throw flowers and dance hand in hand in tears untill it comes out.
