Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Just had the Angels offer me Kaleb Cowart (3B - 63OVR 21 years of age, B potential) straight up for Allen Craig.

Ummm, I'm sorry Angels, but I'm currently 7 games up in the Central Division and battling for best record in NL. Why in the world would I trade Craig for a prospect at this point? Why would I trade Craig at all? LOL

Not the worse deal ever, and by that I don't mean it's a good or fair one or come at the appropriate time frame but Cowart isn't an god awful horrid prospect.

To you second point and your I quote "LOL", why would they trade Craig? If Adams can have 1B and Taveras can come up you can restock in areas you may need help, 2B for example or 3B (can move Carp to 2nd or keep him there). Maybe a young SS.

But my ultimate point would be that this thread is to ask for help or gauge how fair/real your trade is. The trade logic is bad, duh? You can ridicule it somewhere else. Just my two cents. Good day.

Ultimately, I felt since I was taking a big part of their lineup, it would make more sense to give both of those guys.

So, I traded Ronald Torreyes + Brad Peacock for Mike Morse.

Torreyes is a 22 year old C-prospect 2nd baseman that will already be their best overall 2B. Brad Peacock is a 27 year old C prospect starting pitcher. After the deal finalized, the Giants instantly put Peacock in their rotation as the #5 guy. Torreyes is starting in AAA for them.

In Mike Morse's first game as an Astro, he ended up being the walk-off run as he scored from 2nd base on a Chris Carter single in the 11th inning.
That's actually not a bad deal. Torreyes is a mini version in Altuve, as he can hit but no power. And is short as well I think, ha. I don't think the Giants would want Peacock though, I think I saw you were in 2015? So that would mean Bum, Cain, Lincey & Crick would be in the rotation? I think they'd rather take a field prospect alongside Torreyes. But real fair deal. Nicely done.

I'm in June and not quite out of it yet, but just in case I fall off. Howard and Utley are playing great:

Howard .335 21 HR, 45 RBI in limited duty (platoon starter vs. RHP)

          Utley .280, 23 RBI, 6 HR

What is a realistic prospect level to target for these guys if I need to sell them off? I'm in 2015, so certain things may be different on certain teams. I'm just curious what grade prospect to target and then I'll figure out which teams could use Utley or Howard.
Holy hell you must be batting on rookie with Howard ha. Away from the game at the moment so can't see what there salaries are like. Should be the same value for Howard and Utley. Depends how far they've regressed though. I would say 1 Mid B for each of them.

No it wasn't really an unfair trade, as in the fact it wouldn't have benefited both teams had the circumstances been different. Just that with me being in first and Craig being one of the better hitters in the game, I thought it was funny that the Angels tried to entice me to giving him up by offering me Cowart, at a position where I am looking for depth.

To you second point and your I quote "LOL", why would they trade Craig? If Adams can have 1B and Taveras can come up you can restock in areas you may need help, 2B for example or 3B (can move Carp to 2nd or keep him there). Maybe a young SS.
Again, it wasn't really the fact they offered Cowart for Craig, but it was the idea that I'm in first place and Craig is one of leading hitters in league. I tried to offer them other trade options for Cowart as I would love to have him in my system, but nothing else made "sense" for me, in what they wanted for him.

But my ultimate point would be that this thread is to ask for help or gauge how fair/real your trade is. The trade logic is bad, duh? You can ridicule it somewhere else. Just my two cents. Good day.
I didn't know this thread was to solely ask for help or gauge how fair/real a trade was. I thought with its title it was to discuss all trades. Sorry if I misunderstood.

With that said, I wasn't ridiculing the trade logic at all with my comments, as I'm not one that gets caught up in the realism of a trade in video games. To be honest, in my opinion, the only true "realistic" trade that can be made are ones that have actually happened in real life. Every other trade is up for debate as to its "realism".

I would appreciate however next time you keeping your sarcastic comments to your self and trying to police what I'm saying, the concept behind what I said, and where it should be said. All I did was mention a trade that was offered and my thoughts. Nothing more and nothing less.

              Thank you man.

I went back and forth over and over on which deal would be better, but I kind of felt the same way you did. Peacock isn't necessarily a guy that the Giants are buying into.

I am in 2015 and their rotation was actually Bum - Cain - Lincecum - Andrew Chafin (Rule 5 draft pick) - Hudson. Tim Hudson had been DREADFUL for them at that point. Kyle Crick was still in AAA, so I figured I could throw in a stop-gap pitcher for that #5 spot to fill in while the Giants wait for Crick to be ready.

Peacock is definitely not going to light the world on fire, but he'll be serviceable for them while Crick continues to develop. That's why I wanted to include him in the deal.

Thank you for the compliment. I had been contemplating a Mike Morse deal for quite a while.

That's fine, you're free to do what you like. You asked questions and I answered your rhetorical questions. My point is that your thoughts bring no value to the discussion, why bring up the trade? My guess would be so we could all hold your hand and tell you how bad it was? I might be wrong, but I really only see that option. I will not hold your hand. If you read the 1st page (doubt you did, you will see why this thread was created). In my opinion you're bashing the trade logic of the game, and once again to no surprise I will say this isn't the place for it. Most would've probably ignored it since again it adds nothing to the discussion here, just a heads up for future references when you get an offer for Wacha or Carpenter. I end with that, now good day sir.

Oh yeah I forgot they signed Hudson to a 2 year deal, ouch. Yeah Torreyes is nice, picked him up in an online league. Guy can hit at times and play good defense. Makes perfect sense for the Giants to go after a 2B as Scooter is probably retired and fishing somewhere around the globe.

Yeah Peacock would be a good #5 until Crick comes up, hell he could probably stick around after Hudson retires as well or the other young arms of the Giants failed to reach their potentials (Blackburn, Edwin & Mejia). Blackburn was once thought to be better than Crick, oh how he has fallen.

Hopefully Morse does better with you than me, could never hit with the guy. Had to pick up Pierre to platoon with Blanco at left. Morse got designated to bench player, only playing when Belt needed a breather.

Have you read any of my other posts, and I doubt you did, you would see that I absolutely love this game. But anyways, this isn't the place to discuss that.

You have your thoughts on the reasons for my post and I KNOW the reason for my post. At the end of the day, its really not worth getting into a back and forth and cluttering the thread, nor do I really even need to justify or defend my post to you.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

I decided to roll with the Marlins, I'm 25-27 but only a few games out of the Wild Card. I made two trades so far:

P Bryan Flynn to the Brewers for 2B Rickie Weeks

I did this in spring training. Flynn was a high C and the Brewers had no room for Weeks. I thought it was a fair deal. I moved Hechavarria to the bench and Furcal to second.

OF Marcell Ozuna to the Red Sox for 2B Mookie Betts

I haven't pulled the trigger on this yet. Marisnick got hurt so I called Ozuna up and he was hitting good through about 40 AB, with a .350 + average and a couple home runs. Even though I'm hitting good with him I can't stand hitting with him if that makes sense lol I hate his long stride. I feel like I'm just getting lucky with him, and I know that I'll just have to send him down when Marisnick is back. I feel like I might as well trade him when he's on a hot streak. Betts is hitting about .240 in Triple A. I know I have Weeks but Betts could play CF with Marisnick gone then be a super utility guy. Betts is 72 OVR with 85 POT, Ozuna is 74 OVR with 83 POT. Boston's CF are both lower in OVR and are both struggling. Thoughts? I was thinking about pulling the trigger but I want to see what some other people think. Might be a little unfair in real life but I think it's fair considering the context of my game. And BTW Boston is 3 games out right now.

Had a quick question about the value of prospects. It can't go strictly based off potential as an A potential that's 23 years old and a 55 ovr is clearly not as valuable as a 20 yr old A closer to 70 ovr. Does anyone have a system for properly determining grades? I was thinking something like overall plus 30 for an A, plus 20 for a B, and plus 10 for a C. Then subtract 5 points for each year old they are beyond 20. Seems that this formula keeps top prospects like baez and tavarez in their proper range without abusing guys that may have high potential but will never be a factor in the show due to age or current skill. What do u guys think?

I like that approach to it! Very interesting way to look at it and it most definitely separates the quality of prospects.

Have the Pirates, want to trade for Price or Samardzija. I'm in my first offseason and they will both be entering the final year of their deals. I'd rather have Samardjiza because the cost will be lower and Price would make my roation 3/5 LHP's but its an interdivision trade, which is rare.

Wondering which trade you guys think is more realistic and what I would need to give up. (Note: I already traded 2B Walker to ATL for LHP Alex Wood at the deadline and I'd rather trade Starling Marte than Austin Meadows for budgeting purposes to resign the SP I trade for)

Hey guys I need alittle help in my franchise. I am playing as the cubs and I am about 5 days before the end of the trade deadline in 2014. I would like to know if any of these teams would buy or sell realistically. Whether its a playoff push veteran or unloading for prospects. I had accidentally left injuries on Manual so everyone is healthy. Here are the standings. * means wildcard spots. ( ) means games back for the wildcard spots.

Still thinking about some of my own trades in my franchise, but in the mean time I wanted to bring up a CPU deal that I mentioned earlier as I'm still thinking about it. It went threw several weeks ago so I don't know if I can undo it now, but just wanted some more input on it. Dodgers sent Ethier and Withrow to Angels for Cowart and Dane de la rosa. Dodgers are currently 2 games over the dbacks for the NL west lead, and the angels are around 6 out of the al west lead. Ethier is hitting .300 with LAA now and all 3 Dodger outfielders (puig, kemp, Crawford) are hitting around the area of .270-.280 with respectable power and RBI numbers. Cowart is in AAA hitting around .250. What do you guys think? Was I right to let that trade go through? Would the dodgers do that while leading the West? Keep in mind this trade was several in game weeks ago and they are still leading the division several weeks after the trade. And does it make sense or LAA?
