Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Okay, long post incoming. I'm trying to create a Jose Reyes deal going off of IRL stats.

    Reyes, James Russell to CIN
    Cingrani to CHC
    Alcantara, Jackson, Cozart to TOR

The Cubs get an incredible young pitcher while getting out from under a bad contract and dealing from depth. The Reds create a stupid good Frazier-Reyes-Phillips-Votto infield and lineup.

    Reyes to BOS
    Bell, Hanson, Rijo to TOR
    Swihart to PIT

Boston gets Reyes who I think they were interested in a while ago dealing from depth. Pittsburgh gets a catcher to replace Russ who's basically the younger Russ but can hit more and is cheaper.

    Reyes to NYY
Sanchez, De Paula, Montgomery to CHC
    Alcantara, Hanneman, Jackson to TOR

Yankees get Reyes. Duh. Cubs get a catcher and get out from under a bad contract.

    Reyes to DET
    Castellanos, Thompson to BOS
    Betts, Swihart, Barnes/Webster to TOR

Illitch gets to contend which he obviously wants to do. Boston adds a young hitter to help their OF problem and a great pitcher.

    Reyes to DET
    Castellanos to LAA
    Hamilton, Cowart, Yarbrough to TOR

LAA gets out from under a bad contract in exchange for a good young hitter and Illitch contends.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

      do that.

Osuna and Hutch are both evaluated as potential #2's. Prado is decent and Collmenter is a 7th starter. Noooo thank you.

Just going off the spreadsheet. Wasn't sure how valuable any of them were to their teams

The 4th trade seems the most fair and realistic. As for the first deal I disagree with Cingrani being "incredible" Im not sure if that was hyperbole, but right now, I wouldn't call a one pitch starting pitcher "incredible". This guy has long reliever written all over him, it was the norm to see him use 80-90 pitches to get through 5 innings. Again, not my definition of incredible.

In a vacuum, the final trade with Reyes going to Detroit seems like something I would see reported on MLB Network on July 31st.

how would you rank the deals from least to best? Stephenson would work if you don't like Cingrani, but I like him.

            Amended:
            Reyes, James Russell to CIN
            Robert Stephenson to CHC
Mendy Alcantara, Jackson, Cozart to TOR

I think Stephenson has more upside than Cingrani, I think we know what we have in Cingrani. If I'm Epstein/Jed and I'm letting Alcantara and a reliable LH bullpen arm go, I'm at the minimum getting a high upside arm (not to say that Cingrani has no upside, but Stephenson has a higher ceiling). Maybe WTNY will chime in as he is more in tune with the Cubs than I, Im more focused on the White Sox.

Ranking them from best to least, I would say:

              1) Reyes to Det deal (with LAA as other team)
              2) Reyes to Det deal (with Boston/ I think Betts might be a little too much)
              3) Reyes to Bos (Pit as other team)
              4) Reyes to NYY
              5) Reyes to Cin (Historically this doesn't fit what the Reds do)

WTNY helped me with these, specifically the one around Stephenson. He also had Winker going to the Jays but I thought that was too much for me to get back.

That sounds about right. I'll edit the Boston one a bit. Thanks.

Might just be me but I don't think the Reds would want to carry that contract till 2018, if the Jays ate part of it I could see them as a realistic target imo. There should be cheaper options at SS no?

                  Imo

Reyes to Det or NY makes sense (money wise). Not sure about anything else though, also not sure how Theo will view Gary since well... he hasn't been that great.

I like Reyes to the Reds but putting the Cubs in the mix is a little like kissing your sister. How about Arizona with Didi + pick 'em.

                            T. Turner is on a fast track with his glove, don't think there is a need for 4 years of Reyes. I tried to come up with a match for Owings but the drop off from Shipley is pretty drastic. I would say the DET/ARZ would be a good option.

Edit: misread...SD makes sense as well.

Reyes or Turner could both move to second. Gyorko to third. Headley will be long gone.

I'm a little confused; what do you think of the ARZ package? I like it, personally.

I do like the ARZ package if the Jays can live with Lamb. I meant to say I was trying to get Owings back for the Jays but I couldn't find a good pitcher to match up with him as the dbacks farm doesn't go much beyond Bradley and Shipley (Shipley + Owings is a little too good imo).
