    Re: Demo?

Just saying, it's only a week and a half until launch. I'm fine waiting. It's going by fast enough.

      Re: Demo?

As much as I've liked a demo I think they could use all the time they had to prep this baby for the May 6th release instead of making a demo. Making a proper running demo takes quite some time considering it's (almost) always of an early built.

I bet they're still working their asses off to smooth everything out for the day one patch.

It sold less than half of what 13 did in its first week. No doubt due to upcoming PS4 sales.

            Re: Demo?

I believe we see this happening more and more. Not releasing a demo, especially for an up and coming popular game, and for a new console system, makes about as much sense as an Auto Dealership not allowing someone to test drive a car before they buy it. Unless of course their is something that you don't want the consumer to see.

Bad metaphor. Demos are nice for us because it allows us to play the game early. Especially for popular franchises, you know what you're gonna get gameplay wise. If you want to try the game before buying, wait to rent it. Unless gameplay is completely disastrous, a demo can be made to hide any flaws. You test try cars because each one is so different.

If a remember correctly, many people were felt encouraged by NBA Live's demo and that game was a disaster. Based on the demo, the game was rated between a 6 and 7. New franchises can use it to drum up excitement. It adds little value to established brands.

                Re: Demo?

Although I LOVE demos... From a business perspective, I don't see how a demo is a compelling use of dev time:

                1. There's no competition this year.
                2. This is the first year of a next-gen game. It's coming in hot as it is, so why put added pressure on the development team to push out a demo?
                3. With Twitch and other mediums to now observe people playing the game, I feel like gamers have less reason to demand demos.
                HE'S GOT ONE FLAP DOWN!

I don't think the NBA Live demo was all that well received. I do know the game itself after updates was much better than the demo. I think most people would agree with that. But that's for another discussion.

I'm not surprised at all there is no demo. There hasn't been one since 11 right? So I just assumed there wouldn't be one.

Of course it would be cool if there was, but I guess they figure its not worth the resources.

Very true , this would be the year to have a demo more than any other IMO

The implication that they would withhold a demo to hide something from the consumer is ludicrous. Honestly, I wouldn't even bother DL'ing a demo if they released one. I'll just go out on release day and pick up my copy...same as I do every year.

I could care less about what you think of my metaphor. You know exactly what I was trying to say. This is a very important release of this game, being that its on a new console. Its very important to show MLB gamers whats on tap for them. If you have a great game, product, or whatever, you spotlight it, you don't hide it til it's released.

The word "hiding" is only referring to the possibility that this years game is not leaps and bounds from last years game. Even though The Show has been the best Baseball video game for years, it might not be worth plopping down $60 year after year, if the upcoming game is just a few tweaks better than the previous year.

                            Why? What would it prove?

I think a lot of you guys are missing the point. The demo wouldn't be for us, the people who have played the series forever. It would be for those who haven't bought a baseball game in a while or are converting to PS4 from the 360. They've had the abysmal 2K series and this was a chance to wow them.

I'm sure other factors come into play but sales of the series have been dropping every year since 12. Don't know if the lack of a demo is a part of that but it couldn't hurt to have one out there.

Not missing the point at all. If you want me to get into marketing I will.

You have your core group, those of us who buy the game every year. And I think we all agree no demo is needed for this group.

You also have a group who with this gen switched to a ps4 over an xbox solely for the fact that they could finally play a baseball game again. Don't need a demo for this group either.

Now the group you mentioned, is the only group that you would market a demo to. Those that switched to a ps4 for whatever reason.

Now I agree that it's important to give that group a reason to buy the show, but it really isn't a large enough segment to spend development time on a demo.

I wouldn't be shocked to see one come out at some point after the game is released, but there really is no reason to put one out beforehand.

In all actuality, releasing a demo for any solid game, there is a greater likelihood that it would have a negative impact than the chance of it increasing sales.
