    Help with timing hitting.

Like the title says, I am using dynamic difficulty and seem to be hovering somewhere around rookie ---. I am not a new player to this game by any means. I am also getting good wood on the ball and using the yankees lol. I am seeing around 3 hits per game. It seems 8 out of 9 hard hit balls goes right to a defensive player without them hardly moving.
    Any help would be great.
    Many thanks.

Check out some of the sliders in the slider forum. I'm not great with how they work, so don't take my word 100%, but I think lowering the solid hits slider can help a little as those hits might start falling in front of fielders.

Timing is brutal (for me) this year.

I'm 65 some odd games into my Franchise and am hitting .249 (easily my worst ever). I always play on AS.

After 44 games (Quick Counts only) I decided to turn on Dynamic Difficulty. Still on AS LOL! If I wasn't walking so much I'm positive I would have been demoted by now.

Thinking I might drop the Pitch Speed slider again. Maybe you could try that first? You'll see a noticable impact. Timing is exactly what it's described; it's all about how well you time the ball.

You have to compensate with sliders. The PCI rarely lines up right.

For me as well! I've always used Timed Hitting. However, this year my Red Sox are just over .200 for the month of April. Everything is either a deep fly ball or a soft grounder. Drawing plenty of walks and making good contact... just not falling. I changed my view to Classic Catcher 3 and that seems to have helped me a bit... still... very poor hitting on AS and Timed Swing.

You also need to take into consideration other factors like the batter you're using and the pitcher you're going up against. It matters...ALOT.

Say you're using a hitter with his contact ratings in the low 70's. If you're facing a pitcher like Chris Sale for example and you guess the 4 seamer that he throws.

If HIS RELEASE is perfect, even if you square up on the ball, you probably will still make decent contact but you'll either line drive it straight to a player, ground it out, or fly it out.

Pitchers vs Hitters duels count for a lot this year even more than last year's game.

Even Mike Trout going up against Clayton Kershaw. You're going to hit a few line drives and ground outs.

It's not all about you hitting the ball with perfect timing...there's alot more to it.

                LOL!

I'm still torn on whether to be exhilarated or frustrated by these recent developments.

I spent some time on baseball-reference.com this morning and honestly my individual and team BA's are pretty much inline with either the three year grading curve OR how they are actually playing in real life this year.

                Soriano .240's
                K.Johnson .250's
                Gardner .270's
                McCann .245ish
                Roberts .275ish
                Teixera .210ish

                I'm ok with this.

But Ellsbury and Beltran are in the .260's and that kind of bugs me if we're being honest. I should be much closer to .280 - .290 with these guys and if I were, I'd be pumped with the hitting.

But it's a long season. Hopefully those two start getting hot because if they do than my numbers look really good!

My team BA looks nice too. .249 would place me mid pack in real baseball. I just wish I had at least one or two players hitting for a high average (to be fair I did, but went on a HUGE COLD STRETCH).

posting here so i can stay in this discussion. also a timing hitter, playing on Vet now, only adjustment is solid hits down to 3. Getting decent variety with these settings.

What I noticed when I tried Timing pitching is that since you can't control the location of the PCI that the batters themseves are setting it. I would swing and miss at a high strink and the game would indicate that the coverage indicator was covering the bottom half of the zone. I did not move it so I have to assume the batter is making a guess at it.I turned it off pretty quickly.

some great advice here folks. At least it is good to see I am not the only one. Going to try some slider adjustments as suggested.

                      Thanks again!

I've always been a timing hitter but it's horrible this year. Guessing the pitch doesn't even help. Easy fly out or weak grounder like you said or just miss. I switched to the default hitting and all of my Rockies are hitting 260 or better. CarGo and Tulo in the 330's

                          Re: Help with timing hitting.

I use timing and my team average is ~.264 which is good enough for 2nd in the AL.

Be wary of decreasing pitch speed (a common tip). My problem is how often I am early on pitches. One of the harder things to do is sit back on a change up and if you decrease speed you make it that much harder.

I do not use guess pitch. I read pitches and wait for a goodie to hit.

As some have pointed out, batters decide where to look for a pitch on their own. Sometimes it makes sense, other times it does not. It is ratings based and I've noticed that they are fond of looking for pitches in their cold zones. It may make sense, but it is a stupid thing for Chris Davis to look low and away and then whiff on a 4 seamer up in the zone.
But there are also times where they guess right. Michael Cuddyer is killing it for me and it is largely because he does this well.

And always remember to work the count. At times it seems as if there is a hidden mechanic where you get a bonus if it is a >5 pitch at bat

Then it seems you have the opposite problem. You need to increase difficulty or something.

That's incredible! Good job man! Did you have to change any sliders to do this and which Difficulty level are you on?

I dropped the pitch speed a click and just had an 11 hit game! Though I agree on being weary of how it will impact the user's perception of the offspeed stuff.
