How do I know if the player has been offered a qualifying offer by his former team? For instance, I am trying to sign a player who has "Qualified" next to them but no offers on the table. They are not worth me losing a draft pick to sign, so I don't want to mess this up
I not sure on this part, but I believe it does tell you. I'll check tonight to make sure.

      Great stuff indeed.

Question on Rule 5. What screen will tell me who I need to place on my 40 man roster to protect them?

I did a sim with the Astros and didn't see anyway (other than age) to give me any indication who I need to protect.

I dot think there is a screen in game. Technically, a number of minor league years are needed (depending on age) in real life to be eligible for the rule 5 draft. I usually just put guys on the 40 man who are my best 37/38 guys, or guys with high potential. I haven't seen the AI draft anybody under 65 overall.

Thanks I never noticed that. Is there a certain thing to look for so I don't have to go through every player? Do I need to look at their age and then seen? Older players should never be eligible so looking at their age and then card should work, correct?

I check them at 24/25.....that's when they usually hit the Rule V eligibility.....

They're protected for 3 years or so?
Something like that... but yea i think the game does like 24

When is a realistic time to Designate my players for assignment? I kinda understand what it does (thanks to this thread) but I'm not sure when to exercise it, or with what type of player.

                    Any time really.
In your case it sounds like you want to set up your 40 man rosters for the Rule V draft....the game notifies you in the off season when that must be done or risk losing players. That is when I do it for THAT reason.
(the reason being....I don't do it earlier as I may make moves with any of the players during the season...and would thereby take unnecessary risks with waivers when I might need them due to injury or if I was trading)

There are other times....after a trade(if want to put the player you are receiving in a trade on the 40 man...but the player you traded was not...therefore room must be made)(the game gives you 3 days to make roster moves...and it is the one time it lets you over the 90 player limit)
                    or
injury....where you need a certain type of player....he's not on the 40 so you need to DFA someone on the 40 to make room.

So if i designate a player for assignment, it removes him from my 40 man?

EDIT: I just googled it real quick... answered my own question.

But what made me think of that was the 10 day something or other

Is that 10 day "grace period," if you will, actually in the game?

                                Yes...

I don't know if it really makes a difference for your team...you're really setting your franchise direction.
The only thing it could make a difference on is possibly
1- If a players attitude toward signing/re-signing with you is effected. There is something in the game for this...I just don't know if the rebuilding/push/neutral mode effects it
2- If teams are making offers to you based on which mode you are in. I'm not sure if this makes a difference with that.
Perhaps tabarnes knows this.....he's been a bit busy....he and his wife just had another baby!(CONGRATS TIM! )
