    Going the other way

Does anyone else find it incredibly hard to hit the ball into the opposite field? When I try to it seems all I can really do is foul it off. I just finished about 10 practice sessions and I was only able to hit the ball into the opposite field ONCE! Is there any kind of trick to this? I'm thinking of trading this game in because the timing seems off. I strike out like 15 times a game coz it seems like if I wait for it my player won't swing at all!

I personally don't use the practice sessions much for hitting. For some reason it feels different when you're actually playing a match-up.

Opposite field hits require you to swing the bat late, as you already probably figured out. More practice, I guess.

And regarding the strike outs, the solution is to simply work the count and ultimately look to get walks all the time. Don't swing unless it's in the strike zone. Take a first pitch strike if you have to. Take a second pitch strike if you have to. But always look to draw a walk. This should decrease your hitter's strike outs.

Side Note: I wish there was a practice session for base running (not RTTS version, but standard franchise/season mode version). I'm probably an outlier in that I don't play MyPlayer or RTTS type game modes. Running bases is confusing.

Way too many opposite field hits in general imo, I wish I could have more pull hits as about 80% of my hits are oppo field....

In my opinion the hitting is just off this year. It just feels to wonky. Well times hits just seem random to be honest. I have he same problem as the above poster, it feels most off my hits go to opposite field. A perfectly timed hit always seems to go oppo, and when you try and swing early to pull it you either foul it off or hit a ground ball chopper

I know eh. I'm a complete noob to The Show and I'm finding it hard to get up to speed with the lack of tutorials and practice modes like for baserunning as you pointed out.

I try and hit to the opposite field, as a LH hitter, but when I do try to pull it I get a lot of choppers to second. But I also get my fair share of hard his to RF, down the line.. I'm not sure if it's "wonky" this year but all my flyballs seem go to LEFT and CENTER. I have a few home runs to RF but I don't remember any F9. That might be normal for a LH hitter..like Miggy, he seems to hit most of his flyballs the opposite way.

I usually can only hit to opposite field on fast balls, but anything off-speed and it's either a popup or a foul ball. I can consistently pull balls no problem.

It's very satisfying to have the CPU work the shift on one of my hitters only to have me hit it to the opposite field and get base hits/doubles.

                    Re: Going the other way

Technically the balls you hit the other way should be on the mid-outside half of the plate.

I just hit a slider low and away over the 1B head and down the line for a double with a righty.

There are exceptions but the large majority of the time hits follow these guidelines. Jeter is an exception to the rule!

I agree with NDalum. I don't have any problems hitting oppo or pulling, though I would say quite a few of my hits go back up the middle. I tend to hit an outside fastball, or breaking pitch to the oppo field. Most inside stuff I pull. I also have gotten used to taking a fraction of a second to swing late to hit to opposite field. Your timing may be off if you are on an HDTV, you may have to set the tv to game mode. For some of them that seems to help with timing issues. Another trick I do is instead of timing hitting, use zone, turn the pci off and just leave it in place. If you are in a double play situation, just shade your left stick down a lil bit to adjust for a low pitch. I hope some of this helps you.

I was pretty bad with that, never hit a opposite field homerun. Next thing i know almost every homerun are the opposite field as well as maybe 90% of the hits. So i lowered the pitch speed, everything's pretty even now.

Swing early on inside pitches to pull. Swing late on outside pitches to hit it the opposite way. Also hold the swing button longer to pull and hit with more power, tap the button to hit it the other way with less power
