hitting pop ups over, and over.....

I can't seem to stop hitting fly balls in this game. IRL players freqently hit bloopers or one hop hit to the outfield, but I cant seem to hit anything that isn't caught for a fly out. I use timing swinging and am using "normal" swing, occasionally "contact". Any help? I would like to start making some quality hits...

Long time legacy issue. If you think you hit the ball well, you didn't. Weak liners are the best way to get hits. Strong liners are more often than not outs. The outfielders cover way too much ground in the time the ball is in the air, partially because the ball is moving way too damn slow relative to the players. It's like they knew they had to reduce ball speed to make the game playable but didn't scale back player speed.

The only way to get hits in The Show is either grounders, weak line drives, or home runs. If you hit the ball well, your out. That simple.

While I appreciate your response, was there something in this guide you were thinking of specifically? This is a general, long guide on hitting and I asked a specific question.

The only thing you can do is try to time and locate the ball as best as possible and hop the RNG is in your favor.

Try to get used to Zone hitting. Timing can be a bit wonky where even though you had the timing right, it still sometimes gives you a bad hit ball. Zone hitting might seem hard at first but trust me, its a lot better and you have a lot more control once you get good at it.

Bumping solid hits up helps with this just make sure ur turn power down to account for it.. Also lowering fielding speed to 0.

It's also much more rewarding. You get better at picking up balls too. I tend to be more of a free swinger when using timing

This isn't true. It's borderline ridiculous. Use zone hitting and actually move the PCI to around where the ball is. After you do that, let me know if you think your statement is true.

Yeah I tried zone hitting and I saw some of the best his I've ever seen. It felt like I was cheating bc I got such good contact. Not wanting to change the difficulty I decided to stay with pure analog as sort of a medium between timing and zone. But yeah you get some awesome hits with zone.

Re: hitting pop ups over, and over.....

I still get a lot of hits with hard hit line drives, but you do notice a lot of them are right at people.

My problem is how well the outfielders play these balls. I will hit a line drive 15 feet in front of an outfielder and they dive face first at the ball and either catch it or stop it. So unrealistic.....you will never see players diving face first and most won't even attempt to dive. I've gotten 5-6 inside the park homeruns off center fielders doing this too. I have fielder reaction and fielder speed at 3, but that isn't the problem. No one dives face first at line drives....

Also if your hitter has no power......don't even attempt hit it in the air. I will square up balls with Altuve and they do nothing but turn into semi hard hit fly outs that are always tracked. Influence down, use zone, etc.

If are using timing there is also things you can do to influence grounders. Don't swing at high pitches....influence down....swing earlier or try to go up the middle. My question is why use timing if you can use zone and impact your GB/FB ratio? Major league players do have an impact if they want to hit grounders/flyballs.

I use the Zone interface and:

I hit a lot of line drives by using "Swing Influence":

                            R2 + L3 to either 3 or 9 "o'clock"

It's also a bit of a legacy issue (IMHO), so I use 4 contact and 6 solid hits to make "10", as opposed to 5 / 5...

Might not be the fix for all, but I'm VERY happy with the hit variety...

The movie "61", about Roger Maris, had a quote in it where he is talking to Mickey and says that the difference between a fly-ball and a HR can be 1/8 of an inch on where the bat contacts the ball.

I always found that to be amazing, and very likely true. It is amazing, but if you swing just a little low (ie, pitch is a bit higher in the zone than the swing), I have found that causes pop-ups or wimpy fly balls.

Going back and looking at the pitcher/batter analysis thing, and replays (though not as much, as they sometimes don't show the physics aspect ratio correctly of when contact happens). I have found that the pitcher/batter analysis can tell you a lot about what happened.

Good luck, stay off pitches in the upper zone or above the zone! It helps avoid this, though it can also help for HR's too, if you pound them and swing earlier!
