Re: Fewest runs scored and least given up, every year.

I use manage mode exclusively and the game has taken a major step backward. I submitted a bug report and the report was closed with a message "this is something we will look into for next year".

Sounds like it won't get fixed. My suggestion in the future is for those who want a lot of chased pitches and low scoring games, make that an option but don't force it on everybody.

I've never adjusted a slider but if it isn't addressed in a patch I guess I'll have to start guessing with a bunch of slider adjustments.

Re: Fewest runs scored and least given up, every year.

My biggest gripe with the show is the game seems slanted all the time towards the low scoring games..Sure I have a few blowouts, a few..But I am hitting .278 in the league, .#1 overall and am 20th in runs. The issues are 2 fold.***nners often do not score on singles to the outfield as outfielders are either to close or have great arms, making it harder to score. Seems there is way too much Perfect contact, pound the ball hard right at someone all the time, my line drive outs are very exaggerated, or the CPU makes a diving play, always seems way worse with RISP. Yes Great contact only to get out happens in real ball, but not like this.

How many times have I had runners on, to hit the ball hard right at the pitcher, bounce off him, right to another defender or close to the pitcher for an out? Still not fixed after all these years.

I can hit, been playing the show since 08, lead the lead in average and HR yet 20th in runs? Something doesn't add up. Too much great hard contact always lined out right at someone.

The other issue is seems every CPU hitter is barry bonds in their plate discipline. LEad the league in Runs against, ERA yet near last in strikeouts, pitches just off thew plate that almost always take rarely get strikouts them chasing.

The contact is still not original if you are playing without adjustment to the gameplay sliders. You won't see the type of hits that lend to finding gaps or flying over outfielders head and bloops that fielders can do nothing about, I'm in the midst of composing a compilation vid of so much highly impressive original contact, and I'll leave it up to the viewers and community to observe the differences. But if you're able to find this outcome in your game, you will see a far different experience offensively. I'll give a taste of one clip, just to show an idea of what I'm talking about and you can use your judgement to determine if my hit here trends differently from things you've seen before.

It's just the first Hit I could think of because it's the most recent thing I've done in the game I could remember, but there are an enormous number of examples. My take is that this hit wouldn't be seen many times in default gameplay. Ordinarily a hit like this would line somewhere into the outfield but I don't want to cloud what anyone else may think, plus I've way more I feel convincing evidence of what I'm saying. Anyhow, I do think this is the biggest answer to why games don't usually reflect the type of scorelines baseball games normally produce. It is to me because the hitting is not authentic and don't give all of the type of plays and scenarios that makeup a baseball game. Hit variance is highly improved over last gen, but it still is costly when it comes to the game as a whole.

Re: Fewest runs scored and least given up, every year.

I don't have any statistics or data to back this up but in my experience with The Show, which is quite extensive, I would say that 90% of the time that I don't get good wood on the ball is because it's my fault.

My Achilles-heel is the high fastball. I cannot, for the life of me, lay off this pitch. There have been pitches where the ball literally hits the catcher's mitt before I even BEGIN my swing. Also the low curevball... forget about it.

So, every time I want to change some kind of settings I remind myself. One, I'm the Cubs, and we suck bad right now. The best player is around an 80 overall... again the BEST player. And two, I still suck at hitting, but I'm getting better. So over time, both things SHOULD improve.

If the day comes that I'm in year four and Kris Bryant and Javier Baez are hitting .220, then I might think about changing something.

Until then, I'm going to try not to get bogged down on all the little stats and details that aren't quite perfect and simply enjoy the best baseball game I've ever played.

When it comes to settings changes of any kind I solely go in the vein of authenticity opposed to improving a statistical category of any kind. It's all about my visual observations that when I see a pattern in the game that is in-authentic, I think of how and where to go to improve the game in that area. That goes for all games, because each one lend itself to arcadish tendencies but there usually is something in the engine that can bring out proper authenticity, at least close to it. In return, if you successfully reach that point you could effect the whole experience of the game significantly.

@gagnon39 what hitting camera do you use? I used to use the default camera, and I too had big problems with balls high and low. I just recently switched to catcher zoom 3, and it has helped me be able to see and lay off those pitches better. Although with it zoomed in so far I did need to drop the pitch speed 2 clicks. So, maybe a different hitting cam is something you may want to explore.

I use default. And my pitch speed is all the way down already. Ha.

Then I would highly encourage you to try different hitting camera's. At least in my experience, I too changed to a catcher zoom camera (sorry not at the game right now and can't remember which one) but it helped me in exactly the two areas you mentioned you struggle in. The other thing I've done is with my first two swings of the bat I imagine the strike zone much smaller than it really is so that I have a better chance of making good contact when I do swing. Of course after that I go in to protect the plate mode. Both have helped me greatly at the plate!!
