    What is your WAR?

Use the simple calculator to see what your WAR is.

It won't be perfect since it is a simple model and based of 2012 averages, but we can all contrast and compare our RTTS guys or Franchise superstars!

    Simple version: http://wahoosonfirst.com/war-calcula...s/version-1-1/

    Updated version: http://wahoosonfirst.com/war-calcula...s/version-2-1/

State your difficulty and which calculator you used.

    Re: What is your WAR?

Here are my first season stats. I got drafted by the Rockies and Traded to the Cards. I only played as a September call up in the first year and made for the second season. I was only on the bench however for the first month or so until I switched positions to 2b (originally a SS).

    .312 AVG
    413 AB's
    21 HR's
    70 RBI's
    62 Runs
    .339 OBP
    .569 SLG
    .333 AVG with RISP
    66 SB and 6 CS
    .908 OPS

    WAR: 5.2
    RAR: 49.3
    Value (in millions):23.2

This is Legend mode with cpu pitch consistency and control down a notch.

I was really good at working counts, but I often would check swing or get rang up on a close 3-2 pitch. I need to max out my plate discipline and my strikeouts would have dropped in half.

      Re: What is your WAR?

My Yankees SS first year. Called up in mid 2015.

      93 Games
      391 ABs
      .233 AVG
      .276 OBP
      .414 SLG
      .690 OPS
      14 HRs
      48 RBI
      21 SB
      12 CS

      .250 BABIP
      .298 wOBA
      .181 ISO
      K% 17.9%
      BB% 5.4%

      RAR: 17.8
      WAR 1.9
Value: $8.4 (a lot more than my under $1M contract)

I built a fast-defensive SS with a lot of power. My contact is low, so my AVG suffers. I set my D at 2 and my BS at 3. My second year is a lot better. Tough rookie season.

Edit: I used TNK's Sliders and used both calculators. v1 displayed above. v2 - 1.8 WAR

        I think my K to BB's were 45 to 20...
So I'd say my K rate around around 9% and BB rate was 4.5%

I didn't draw many walks, but I worked the count pretty well. I am drawing a lot more walks my second season. Power and Discipline seem to help a lot.

I also turned off the check appeal. I don't see how they even know if you went or not when the buttons aren't even analog based anymore and even with 80 plate discipline they were saying I went nearly every time.

Yes turning off check swing appeals is a must in my opinion!! It's about useless.

              Re: What is your WAR?

I am having a much better 2nd year. I'm not making mistakes on the basepaths and my defense has been top notch. I am walking a lot more and not striking out much, plus I am driving in more runs (mainly because I actually got the opportunity).

However my team is only .500. We are 45-45 and it doesn't seem right. Here is our lineup:

Bourjos (he shouldn't be leading off but oh well)
Oscar Tavaras (He isn't performing as well as I figured he'd be)
Matt Carpenter (He is always on base...has like a .400+ OBP)
              My guy
              Matt Adams
              Yadier Molina
              Jhonny Peralta (still solid)
Nate Schierholtz (Replacement level but bats 8th and platoons)
              Pitcher

              Rotation:
              Wayno
              Wacha
              Lynn
              Kelly
              Gonzalez

              Bullpen: Martinez, Siegrest, Rosenthal

Yet we have guys like Scott Feldman and some other bums in the pen who keep blowing games. For some reason we traded Shelby Miller, Holliday, and Craig for older veterans. We got Bautista for 2 years and he retired. He was useless last year. We also have Adam Lind on the bench, who is a nice backup but we could have Allen Craig or Holliday starting in the OF over Nate Schierholtz.

I wish there was more ways to interact with the manager. Like complain about a certain player or ask they be traded or something.

Can't believe that team is only .500. I love Matt Carpenter. So underrated. Should be an all-star this year.

Is there a way to interact and request a certain position in the lineup? I know you could in the 2k series. Maybe request a certain slot you'd prefer and see if the results differ.

My player doesn't deserve clean-up, but I am there. I was there in the season posted above, believe it or not. I'd really like to follow TangoTiger's lineup order and eventually, when I am good enough, slot myself in at second in the order.

Carpenter did indeed make the all star game. He may not be the most talented player or do anything with flair, but he knows how to take AB's. He knows how to get on base and can play 3b, 2b, 1b, RF, LF.

You can request to be moved up in the lineup, but I don't think that applies unless you are batting 6th or lower. Since your guy is a power hitting SS (like mine) with good power (mine has 80 power) they'll normally put the guy with the highest power in the 4 spot. If we were to make speedy contact guys then we'd probably lead off. I hate seeing Bourjos leading off for our team though. His OBP is like .280 and he probably is our worst hitter.

One reason I enjoy franchise mode.......RTTS just has some poor GM's and Managerial decisions in the game.

                    Re: What is your WAR?

I didn't look at the reserves. I feel like Carpenter is the better 3B.

I definitely wish you could choose your spot, even if it's not realistic. Ha.

I agree, the management system is wacky. I was hitting below the Mendoza line and the Yankees still had me in cleanup. My Yankees teammates are brutal, too. The trades are ridiculous.

                      2nd season stats

                      .280 avg
                      .346 OBP
                      .554 SLG
                      .900 OPS
                      Only 2 errors on defense
                      141 games played
                      35 HR's
                      106 RBI's
                      100 Runs scored
                      100 Stolen Bases 11 CS .90 SB%
                      BABIP .242

                      WAR 8.3
                      Value 37.1 million

We finished 85-77, 6 games behind Cincy. Very disappointing season and it was honestly very unlucky. .242 BABIP for my guy that has 99 speed and hit so many balls to the warning track and lineouts is pretty frustrating. This is with fielder speed and reaction down to 3.

I expect to go off next season even more. I need to get my durability up, so I play every game. I only played 141 games and some of those games I played were pinch running or pinch hitting at the end. Matt Carpenter had 140 more plate appearances than me....

                        Re: What is your WAR?

I've never shared this with anyone because I was constantly tweaking it and never completely satisfied, but I created a detailed and comprehensive WAR/Stat tracking spreadsheet that I used for last year's game. I didn't buy the new game this year because of time and money constraints but I digress.

Anyone that wants to download the spreadsheet and tweak it and use it to calculate WAR for your teams, your RttS or the entire league like I did go right ahead. Most of the formulas I pulled off of Fangraphs, including the park factors and the positional adjustments.

To use it you will need to complete the top table on the tab labeled "Assumptions" this will calculate the true replacement level of players in your virtual league, and will even split it between the American and National Leagues. In MLBTS 13 I would shuffle through each team and put them in the number of IP, PA or AB's into an individual cell (you'll see the cells are broken out into each league). This will allow the formulas to calculate all of the proper components of WAR as it relates to batting and pitching statistics.

After you fill out the "Assumptions" tab you can tab over and go to your team's position players tab or your pitchers tab. With the positional players you will need to manually include the positional adjustment (taken from Fangraphs) for each of your players. Fill out column with a yellow background on the header and it will calculate the WAR for every player on your team. The only caveat on the pitching side is the "win expectancy" difference between starters and relievers. In the WAR column for pitchers the formula subtracts league average win expectancy from your pitcher's personal run environment, so you will have to manually change that from "-.38" for starters to "-.47" for relievers. It's a pretty easy process.

I used to do these calculations for every player on the 40 man rosters in both leagues when I completed a season, which is why you'll see tabs for AL and NL position players and pitchers, but you don't have to use those tabs at all unless you're a stat junky like me. My only challenges in the WAR calculations stemmed from defensive and base running values outside of wSB and wCS. I tended to base my DsR (defensive runs saved) off of who won the Gold Glove at the position, and manually insert the number I felt best correlated. But, I would love to hear suggestions on how to tweak those to make them more realistic.

Anyways, here is the google docs link to the spreadsheet. I originally created it using OpenOffice but it should convert to Excel when it's downloaded. Let me know what y'all think and i apologize for the long post.

                          Using the 1st calculator:

                          3.8 WAR
                          $17.1m value

                          Using the 2nd calculator:

                          4.2 WAR

                          $19.1m value

Those were based off my 2nd season numbers. .284/.320/.490 with 26 HRs, 51 stolen bases, only 25 walks, and I put down average defense in CF for the Royals.

I used combined stats from my short Rookie year and the first half of 2015 (154 games):

                            .326 BA (.310 as Rookie, .340 2nd season)
                            91 RBI
                            107 Runs
                            70 SB
                            9 CS
31 HR (14 in 72 games as Rookie, 17 in 82 this year)
                            55 Walks (16 in 72 games 1st season, 39 in 82 2nd season)
62 SO (37 in first season, 25 in second season)
.389 OBP (.423 in second season)
                            4 Errors

                            8.3 WAR
                            $37.5M value

Once I switched to zone (in ST, 2nd season) and figured out what I couldn't hit well, my BB% skyrocketed from like 6.7% to 11.2% right now. I've been intentionally walked maybe 6 times, once after I worked a 1-2 count to full for an 8-pitch IBB.

                            Used the 2nd calculator

I'm almost at the All-Star break in my 4th season and it's shaping up to be even better, I'm already at 4.8 WAR according to that 2nd calculator with 78 games played. I'd like to put up a 10-WAR season some day
