I wish I could get use to zone. Timing is the only one that I'm used to. If I wanted to worry about the PCI I would use zone. Currently in a Rangers franchise and hitting in the .220s and just got 2 hit by Jarred Cosart. I would like to see a happy medium between veteran and all-star as veteran is too easy and I score 10+ runs a game and all-star it's a rarity if I get more than 10 hits in a game.

I've only used timing for the last few years and find the results fairly solid overall. Yes there will be times where you get a meatball and you're batter is swinging in an odd place, almost like he's batting blindly and it will annoy you when it happens, but there is no way I could get into zone.

I was in an online league for a bit as Milwaukee using zone and was raking but that was only because a lot of guys have the same strategy when they pitch so comparing online stats to offline stats is like night and day in my experience. I was hitting .285 with Milwaukee in that online league, offline I'm hitting a mere .249 with the Dodgers for instance.

I wouldn't only sit on low pitches. Eventually the CPU will change up and you will hit nothing but pop ups. Instead, think about how they are pitching you and look for patterns and situations. Speedy guy with no pop in his bat, like say, Ben Revere or Dee Gordon, expect pitxhes up because they don't fear the long ball. But you can still make them pay with a hard hit ball over the 2nd baseman or shortstops head. Think about the situation too when you sit on a location, not just down.

Sitting on a location is how I hit most of the time, at least with no strikes or 1 strike. But like I said. Don't repeatedly sit on 1 location, or it will be slump time soon. Switch it up based on situstions, and patterns you recognize.

true, but in an online league where a mix of AI and Human players will not lend itself to same results

In that game (for those of you who don't know) you moved the stick to attempt to pull the ball or go the other way with it. So if you tried to pull a ball that was way outside you'd just cap it and hit a weak grounder. But every once in a while (I did this with Soriano many times) you could pull, and crush a pitch way outside. There was no "PCI."
Same here - MVP's hitting system is what I want. That's much more like hitters actually hit, imo. Orient the swing to the pitch location but use swing timing to try to push/pull the ball while using an overall bat plane through the zone for ground/fly ball attempts.

Or turn the PCI "general location" into the actual "this is where the bat and your swing will precisely be" like in PYS.

Until either of those, I'll just use timing and use the contact slider to try to mitigate the random system they put in or at least have it to where it's the players with bad Vision having the worst results.

Re: Long time zone hitter, moving to timing. Maybe.

Gagnon39 - I had to up my hitting sliders on AS with timing. I'm at 7 for contact/timing/solid hits. It really didn't even make much of a difference as I'm not lighting up the scoreboard anyways. I still miss on pitches with Normal timing and I still pop up meatballs in hitters counts as well.

I might up timing...idk. The zone stuff sounds interesting...like maybe just sitting low and letting go of the LS if a pitch is a bit up or middle.

I just prefer timing thoug. We shall see. My numbers aren't too far off at this point, I just need Cutch to pick it up. I think I'm gonna change his bat color...

Re: Long time zone hitter, moving to timing. Maybe.

I wasn't planning on posting in this thread but just wanted to briefly share my experience with Timing this year, since most of the respondants seem to be struggling on AS.

I played all of the games of my first season on Default AS. Over my first 44 games, I'd assume due to getting back into the swing of things, I struggled to maintain a batting average in the .240's. As I was growing to feeling accustomed to the game again, the PS4 version launched. This would be the version I continued things on. And this would be when I hit my stride.

The rest of the way I just flat out dominated the CPU. Although I ended up at .251 as a team, I'd easily estimate a team BA of .265+ during the later third. I was putting up close to or more than double digit runs almost every series (note: I feel like human BABIP is the best it's ever been, however I still believe the game produces too many homeruns, especially opposite field, when normal/just early/just late timing is made on the ball).

I just got real locked in. The key was a managable pitch speed. This was the only offensive slider I touched. At a managable pitch speed, I could pick up almost every pitch (other than change ups and to righties, low and away sliders) right out of the hand.

So to anyone struggling, take a look at pitch speed and take some BP (the discipline training is a good one).

The game started to get too easy, so I turned DD back on and am on AS+ (I was actually promoted to HOF but I "reversed it' and opted to bump the pitch speed instead).

Your ability to succeed with Timing hitting will rely mostly on exactly that, your timing. Focus on that first and good things will happen.

use contact swing and the PCI covers more of the zone

Thats what i did with zone hitting when i played this game two years ago. I just sit on a pitch/zone or guess on a zone area when i can see how a pitcher is pitching to me. but i use timing right now and kind of struggling.

True, but sometimes the PCI still "finds a way" to not cover the pitch.

He's right, it's a real issue with Timing and, at least on default AS sliders, the silliness does not seem to be dependent on ratings.

                          It should be.

I think it depends on your ability. I'm not the best at timing pitches correctly so that one likely has the most impact on my average.

i know what you're saying. i havent analyzed it to a great extent. but i would venture to say if your/mine/our timing was perfect the PCI probably would cover the pitch. so we may be thinking we timed it right but arent. so when you notice on the box it may say too early blah, blah, blah. that means the PCI isnt going to cover the ball. make sense?
