Anyone think guess pitch is kinda stupid?
Its not realistic in comparsion to real baseball. Hitters dont get a blinking signal or flashing sign that lets them know what pitch is coming before its even thrown. I dont like using it because it feels cheap and unrealistic.

I don't use the feature as I don't care for it and as you said it's not realistic. I just look for a specific pitch in a certain location like a real MLB hitter would do."The best thing about being a football player at Alabama...winning...winning." -Mark Barron

Going back to the first topic, that is exactly how a lot of the people who don't use Guess Pitch justify that decision. In the end it's a personal choice, but I will say that the gameplay is intended to be balanced even with GP on (in other words, the timing window is narrowed to make up for the extra information you get from the feedback). Also, you can turn the feedback completely off, but still use GP with the bonuses and penalties by using the "No Feedback" option.
Finally, for more info on this check out the Hitting-Guess Pitch section of the In-game strategy guide (pause the game, go to player utilities, upper right square.) It breaks down how to use it, and, more importantly, how it works.Comment

GP isn't my cup of tea but I don't think it's kinda stupid, it's just not all options are for everyone.T-BONE.

Re: Anyone think guess pitch is kinda stupid?
I used to use GP all the time, but after trying to learn to recognize pitches and guess pitch myself without help of system, I stopped using it.
I don't think its stupid, as I believe its a great tool for novice baseball game players or a great tool to learn how to recognize pitches.
Greatest thing about it, is that it can be turned off!I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Anyone think guess pitch is kinda stupid?
No real life doesn't have a flashing sign, but real life MLB batters are a whole lot better at picking up pitches than us PS4-jockies. That said, I don't use GP, but I don't think it is stupid, just a mechanism on a video game to give us an advantage.

Re: Anyone think guess pitch is kinda stupid?
I preferred the old Guess Pitch. i hit perfectly fine without it as well but to say its not realistic is not very valid either.
Professional baseball players dont tap buttons, pull on joysticks or use any kinda meters either. They dont use landing zones or anything else. Its not real baseball its a video game lol
I dont think anyone gets to claim theyre a better athlete or better baseball player if they play the game a certain way. Its an option, one that people use to like, now most people dont bother with it...Comment

Re: Anyone think guess pitch is kinda stupid?
No I would never denigrate guess pitch because what it does is it legitimately helps outsiders to the game of baseball learn their way around the difficulty of getting on base. It's no different than what any of us do on the game, we all are going to guess pitch and location, even if we have all visual aids turned off. Guess pitch is really helpful to people who are getting started playing baseball. For example, when I got MLB 06 I was 14, I loved the game because of the commercials, and it looked real cool and unique. But I didn't know exactly how to play. I layed off the game for like 3 years, came back to it, and guess pitch really helped me make progress in learning how to play, then I began watching more games on tv and began to learn more and more. Now I am playing, with guess pitch deactivated, strike and hot zones off, pitch speed sliders at 8 and the hardest difficulty and one of the most extreme sliders. I always keep that guess pitch concept in my mind, because I need to have an orderly strategy at the plate for every at bat and that comes from the tootilage I got over years of playing with in game aids.Red LegendComment

Re: Anyone think guess pitch is kinda stupid?
I think it's a cool feature, but I've never enjoyed using it. I come from the old days of Ken Griffey Jr on SNES, so I've been used to not having something like that.
All in all, its a great feature for people that enjoy using it or new players that want help recognizing a pitch. The great thing about The Show series, is that they have a plethora of gameplay settings to choose from and features that are completely optional. That way, fans of the series are always happy and can find a nice gameplay medium for themselves.Comment

Until the PS4 lets me do that, I'll take the flashing lights.
There's always gonna be a breakdown here because real hitters... actually hit. They see through their own eyes, and see an actual baseball, in 3D, with 100% realistic movement.
But when we play The Show, we are seeing things in third person, through a camera angle that is (for most people) 6 feet behind the batter, and then on a television set that is 5-15 feet away from the user. It's an entirely different perspective and experience that comes with its own set of nuances. So while I don't use guess pitch at all, I don't consider it to be unrealistic or "stupid." The things that were done were things that probably had to be done, to compensate for the above.Comment
