    Need tips for hitting

I'm relatively new to the game. But I have the worse judgment on pitches. I know baseball in real life. Any tips

    Re: Need tips for hitting

It's worth a try, but it took me many years to learn how to hit comfortably without feeling handicapped. This approach should be worth a try, to see how much improvement you may instantly gain.

Change your settings to eliminate all visual aid displays while hitting. Turn off hot/cold zone, strike zone, specifically. If you can be comfortable enough, also turn off guess pitch. Guess pitch was my biggest aid to hitting looking back but that's also because I was 15, 16 with no knowledge of the game yet.

Anyhow, take this to your next game and see how much improvement you might feel about hitting. My little sister plays, and I rigged her like this and she's further ahead than I was but she also has more baseball experience than I had at 15 either.

keep in mind as well that on the lower skill levels (vet and lower) the cpu pounds the strike zone relentlessly so you will see a lot of strikes, so IMO use these levels to recognize what the different pitches do and as you get better and go to allstar and higher , that's when you will really have to become selective and know the strike zone

I agree mostly with @legend except, until you get the "feel for it I would leave the strike zone up and pitch info for reference

Unless your looking for a quick fix, then nothing beats practice. Practice, practice, practice.
Then, for good measure, practice some more. Just don't let Allen Iverson catch you doing it.

First step, edit the camera view. Personally I used the stock catcher and zoom in alittle and raise the zone to kinda frame the pitcher. You get a great look at the ball this way.

I was actually about to suggest this exact thing.

Turn off all the aides and focus on using your baseball knowledge and try to forget you're playing a video game.

Once I adopted this approach I was able to get a better feel for the game. (turning pitch speed down also helped me too.)

            Oh, and patience.

              Re: Need tips for hitting

For me, its telling myself its ok to get to two strikes and its ok to take a pitch. Find/look for pitches in your hitters comfort zones. You will typically get one pitch to hit in your zone, just don't miss it.

As Ghost stated, the only cure is practice. Learn to recognize pitches and get comfortable seeing them. Practice is the only "guaranteed" way to become a good hitter in the Show.

Well the key statement, "you know baseball". If you used the behind the catcher view while you are at bat. Just try to judge the ball coming out the pitcher hand. Keep this in mind try to work the count. Meaning you might have to take the first pitch with some batters. If you get a first pitch count and you are up 1-0. My friend you have the advantage...

Lower pitch speed. That will help the most. I used to be stubborn about this but I finally lowered it (all the way down to one click I think) last year. I still sucked at hitting, probably because I'm always the Cubs, but I could see the ball a bit better.

                    THIS!

Altering the Camera View is the most significant thing you can do to improve your hitting.

For many years I used Stock Camera's only. I would switch between them every so often, but would always find some kind of weakness with the one I was using. Couldn't gauge pitch speed very well, couldnt pick up the breaking ball, etc.

I find the Catcher Cams too low, very hard to gauge speed because you are looking straight at the ball without any kind of angle, not realistic and I just dont like looking up at pitches. I find myself chasing the high fastball way too often because of the upward angle.

Catcher Offset has a more realistic angle to it, which helps with gauging speed, but it's still way too low.

Wide was the Camera I used for quite awhile when MLB 14 first came out. It gives you a more realistic view of the ball, with it being so high(more eye level). Though I would always offset it for an even better view.

I use Zone + Plus Analog though and Wide still wasn't cutting it. I always seemed to be just off with my aiming,

I finally spent a few hours just manually moving the custom camera around, testing in batting practice till i got the results i wanted.

I ended up with this, and have been mashing the ball since.

                    - I rarely chase anything high and out of the strike zone anymore

                    - Breaking balls are way easier to pick up

                    - Gauging Pitch Speed is so greatly improved I cranked Pitch Speed to 8

                    - I also am think of going from HoF to Legend because I am finding hitting a bit too easy now.

I don't really have a step by step guide to getting this view because I was just flying around with the camera . But you can try to match the picture the best you can.

I'm using Joe Mauer against Jon Lester @ Target Field.

                      Re: Need tips for hitting

-Find the pitchers release point within the first few pitches of the game. Also, once the pitcher is out of the stretch you have to find his other release point which can be slightly different.

                      - If the pitcher has a good change-up then sit on that pitch and learn to recognize it because once you do then you will immediately recognize the fastball. Sit on the pitchers best breaking ball and react to the fastball.

                      -Stay inside the ball.

                      - If you want to see a pitchers' best pitch then wait till you get two strikes. Generally the pitcher wants you to swing at the first two stirkes as those are the ones he wants you to hit.

I'm currently on '13 for the PS3 and I'm wondering if either the PS3 or PS4 version of '14 adjusted the zone hitting.

The one thing that really bugs me about the zone hitting is how the movement with the left stick stops as soon as you begin your swing. In real life and in most other games you can "flow" to the ball by holding the left stick in the direction of the zone while taking your swing. In the Show the zone is locked in as soon as you swing, which doesn't feel natural.

zone hitting is just plain arcadey in general. I don't know how guys can do it. The results are no more realistic either. zone plus analog is the way to go.

The analog batting in this game is really starting to piss me off. I can't buy a hit even with good timing because I am constantly missing pitches due to the arbitrary "swing" mechanic. It is causing me to miss out on a lot of hits as it has a knack of making me swing "under" and "over" on pitches I should be connecting with at the very least.

It's becoming a game killer for me.

                              Use Zone + Analog instead.

You will be in full control of the batters eye that way.
