too early for a trade thread?

is it too early to talk about trades. im really excited to start baseball for the year. the game looks amazing and ready to immersed in the long season towards a world series title. this year I believe ill be playing with the cubbies. abundance of young talent in which I plan on starting Bryant and Russell right away. looking to trade for either polanco or Hamilton for speed and looking for young starter. maybe ventura or Heaney. any suggestions on what it might take. may look at one of the mariners young guns

Never to early to talk Franchise strategy!

Disclaimer: we'll have to wait and see how the changes to the trade logic affect trades. I'm guessing it will be harder to pull off one sided trades.

That being said, remember Bryant and Addison Russell aren't in the game yet. Even if you are using OSFM rosters when they come out, they may not be rated like you think they will be. But your first idea, getting Hamilton or Polanco will probably take giving up Rizzo or Castro, or maybe Arrieta or Baez. If you plan on using Addison Russel ASAP, that makes it easier to give up one of your other infielders to pull off the deal.

I see myself trading Brendan Ryan at some point. I'm going to give Stephen Drew a few months to prove he isn't a starter, and Jose Pirela a few months to prove he is major league ready. I'll call up Pirela to play second and make Drew my utility man. I actually like Drew for that role much more than Ryan. I'll basically take what I can get for him. A few minor leaguers should work out fine. I'll probably DFA him, and then trade him.

I need to find out what Joc Pederson's rating is...I hope its at least in the 70's with a low A or high B potential....then I can trade the surplus of OF...

I really would like to keep Rizzo and castro but baez may have to go. maybe I can package fowler and a b potential prospect for polanco. like u said tho gonna have to see about trade logic. arrieta got to stay

I figured, when you said speed guy

I completely agree with keeping Rizzo and Castro. Also, it may depend if you want Kris Bryant to play 3B or LF. If you are thinking LF, then try to keep Baez and make Russell your 3rd baseman. In real life, he kind of projects out long term into a 3rd baseman rather than SS or 2B. I like your idea of trying to move Fowler and another piece, either a prospect or maybe Hammel or Travis Wood if they'll go for that, especially since your acquisition of either Polonco or Hamilton will fill the CF slot.

Again though, with the updated trade logic, it likely (hopefully) will be harder to pull off this trade without sacrificing something.

I have seen some talk that washington may move strasburg or zimmerman. What do you think it takes for Boston to get one of those guys? I would move a combination of anyone other than Betts. Sox are already talking about signing him to an extension so I think he is pretty close to unmovable.

                  Yay baseball season!

Seriously though I probably wont do anything until around the all star break. Depending on how I'm doing with the Tigers, I will either try and add a bullpen arm or if I'm just blowing it I'll try to unload Price for a few prospects. Think the Blue Jays would bite for Norris and some High C or low B?

Tigers have one of the weakest farms in baseball, need to try and restock somehow.

I know I don't plan on letting Norris go cheap, very promising kid in a rather weak rotation..

Cubs have some young outfielders with speed, Not Hamilton speed but good enough. Matt Szczur & Arismendy Alcantara ( really a utility guy). I'm actually looking forward to playing with Fowler. The only thing I might tinker with is pitching and Catching, Might have to replace Ross somewhere down the line.

As the White Sox, keep building towards the core and trade for a C. I've wanted them to get Grandall the past two offeasons. Anyone have any suggestions on who else? Likely from a team with catching depth blocked in the minors where it would make sense for both teams?

As a life long Cubs fan im super exited about it all...i will probably try to get 1 more arm in rotation to help out Lester and Hendricks. I will also try to figure out a closer because im not the biggest fan of Rondon.

same here, I use Neil Ramirez as my closer, and Strop has been lights out as a setup guy, his era is 0.70 and i'm almost to all star game.

Yes i love Neil as a late inning guy and Strop would be great if he had better control. I think i will just go with "closer by committee" and see how that goes
