Re: MLB 15: The Show Impressions Thread (Impressions Only!)

I've noticed that the enhanced shadows come with a consequence. While Wrigley looks amazing at a 4pm game in July, its next to impossible to see the ball leave the pitcher's hand. It could just be the camera I use so I'll fool around with it. I can't really complain though, considering its a realistic problem and the reason players hate 4pm games.

It could just be early overthinking, but it seems there is a better spacing between empty stadium seats at non sell outs. Instead of the emptiness being somewhat evened out throughout the whole ballpark, nose bleeds and foul pole sections are less crowded than behind home plate and along the infield baselines. Small feature, but something I've been wanting.

Infielders' catch and throw mechanics are still a little too snappy at times, but overall it has still been improved by 100 percent.

I'e already gotten a couple blooper hits in the hole after 2 games. Not only is it great to see but it also feels natural.

Love the minor league stadium that is basically next to Santa Monica Pier. Bayfront Park I think.

You don't have the day one patch. The subbing issue is fixed in the patch.

Re: MLB 15: The Show Impressions Thread (Impressions Only!)

This game really is a work of art.

As everyone has already mentioned the lighting makes a huge difference. The colours are so vibrant and add a distinct flavour to each stadium. The improved detailing on the skylines and addition of lights in the skyscrapers goes even further in representing the feeling you're playing a game of baseball in a living breathing world.

In terms of gameplay I love the way the camera stays in the batting view for a split second after you make contact. If you square up a line drive you know it's a hit straight away and it really gives you a sense of satisfaction when you make solid contact. Way more than in previous years. The post pitch cut scenes are beautiful and the presentation in whole just feels great. I thought they had bought back the option to turn off the HR celebration camera? Hit a no doubter with Jason Castro and the camera went behind him.

Feel like I've seen a lot of triples in a few games I've played so far but that might just be a one off. The sliders out the box feel like the closest they ever have to offer song a balanced game. I'm playing on All-Star with directional hitting and have left the sliders on 5/5/5 (for contact, power and timing) and I'm experiencing good results. Had a game between the Dodgers (me) vs. the Padres where it was a pitchers duel for the first 5 or so innings only managing 2 hits off Shields. When I finally got to him I managed to rack up 8 hits in the final 4 innings off the bullpen. I had another game with the same sliders where I only managed 5 hits in a 12 inning game as the White Sox against the Tigers so a really varied level of hitting. Gonna turn off the strike zone and maybe up the pitch speed as I start to adjust. Debating whether to tune the sliders on All-Star for pitching or up my game to Hall of Fame but so far the sliders don't seem like they will take a lot of tinkering which is great.

Speaking of the directional hitting, I think it's a great addition. For the way I handle an AB it's perfect. I try to work my way into a hitters count where I've got at least a 2 strike advantage (2-0, 3-1 and 3-0) and then I pitch guess fastball middle in and let rip if that's what I get (only swinging with the Abreu's and Cano's of the baseball world on 3-0 if I get something I like). Directional hitting is ideal now because I can influence to pull the ball and the way the camera pans a little bit when you select the direction helps me get a better idea of where the pitch is gonna finish. It also doesn't completely mean that's the direction the ball will be hit. In the Padres/Dodgers game I got a 2-0 count with A-Gon and guessed fast ball middle in, which Shields threw. I influenced to pull to the left but mistimed it and sprayed the ball to right field where it dropped in for a bloop single because the infield was shifted to pull. Just a really nice feature that adds to the game. I had another instance where I guessed the pitch correctly whilst Adam Eaton was at the plate and drove a triple to right center field. The Show rewarded me with a trophy for influencing a hit with the new directional hitting function. Nice touch.

I could literally go on for hours about all the nice new touches they've added but I've already blabbed on for long enough. Stop reading this and go and enjoy the best sports game ever made!

Re: MLB 15: The Show Impressions Thread (Impressions Only!)

Finally, this morning i've played for the first time with new edition.
            I like new menu.
But as ever, i have lost much time to set the options in the menu.
The first match has been an exibition : Portland Sea Dogs vs Richmond Flying Squirrels (i was Portland).
I've lost but i've setted all options for this year. I didn't change the sliders.

For the first time i can't have a real opinion but it seems me a little different, improved.
I have little time to try again, because work. But in the next few days I will have a clearer idea

Re: MLB 15: The Show Impressions Thread (Impressions Only!)

Have the digital version since it was unlocked and been playing it the past 4 hours. Managed to get 2 franchise games in. The rest of the time I was mulling over all the extras & new menu system.

Lots been said already that I agree with , so won't go over those in-depth, these are just some of my personal quick first-time impressions and the stuff I've enjoyed the most so far (only the positives for now)

              - directional hitting: adds at ton to the game. Makes for much more intense pitcher/batter duels and you actually think like a batter (ie: "what do I want to do in this situation?", "where do I want to drive the ball?", "how is this pitcher trying to get me out?" etc..)

              - lighting, lighting litghing!: they really didn't overstate how much the new lighting adds to the game. The streams don't do it justice until you see the full effect on your HD tv.

              - Fielding: for the first time in years in The Show, I'm looking forward to fielding, especially grounders. I feel more freedom in the path I choose to take to field a ball. It's actually fun now, it's neither bland nor a chore anymore. I've also tried automatic fielding, just to see how the AI pulls it off, and it does a terrific job and tracking balls down. There's still that over the back catch however (which I dislike).

              - Ambience/crowd: The sounds of the crowd and the atmosphere as a whole is improved. It adds something. Even the default walkup music selections are better.

              - Overlays, takes a few minutes to get used to, but the presentation and overlays to me are an improvement. Much more tv-broadcast style now. They've added some cutscenes and camera angles during those pauses too, and tha helps the immersion factor a great deal.

              - Sharpness of graphics: Seems everything from the overlays, the players, the field has more depth and sharpness.

              - The Field: love the textures of the sand & grass, that's a vast improvement over last year where it still had that "ps3 look"

              - Ball Physics: Seems every year they improve, and this year is no exception. I've seen all sorts of different hits/outs-made and it almost seems infinite at this point.

              - the Ai (especially pitching & defense) is better. People have already touched on it, so I won't go any deeper. Even the managerial/situational AI has been tweaked.

All I can think of now, will add later. There's some minor nitpicks I have, but I'll wait to see how much that affects the game and if others notice them before I post those.
Haven't tried online yet, I'm not expecting much honestly. I've seen a few streams here and there and they all mention the persistent lag, which is to be expected on day 1.

All in all, i'd say if you're getting the physical copy today or in the near future you have a ton to look forward to.

Re: MLB 15: The Show Impressions Thread (Impressions Only!)

After a couple quick 2 year sims:

Love that there is finally trades in the offseason between Cpu teams again. I think they toned waiver trades down too much. Not many players are being put on trade waivers resulting in basically no trades in August.

Progression does not seem to be over done, which was a fear of mine with it being based on performance.

Batting average is a better. I still think there can be more guys with higher rbi and walk totals.

I think I am going to have to adjust some potentials if I want some bigger offseason contracts. Very few A potential players on the live roster.

Re: MLB 15: The Show Impressions Thread (Impressions Only!)

Only played a few games in Post Season mode at night so heres some brief impressions but right off the bat what happened to the cool game intro from last years game ? Best Ever in Any Sports Game !

I was hoping they topped it as I dont get the whole Tron thing with Puig but whats in a intro as the gameplay on allstar default is pretty tight with near perfect bat to ball physics especially down the lines , gaps and even over the OF heads .

On default base running after a hit seems greatly improved timing wise and not always a close play on every double as the type of hit , whos running and whos throwing really matters attribute wise ( Basically nothing looks out of place and looks very realistic ).

I love the screens I seen here with lighting and shadows but I only played night games so far and other then a little more sharpness and texture Im not seeing much improvement graphically other than the grass and dirt which look amazing but havent really seen any new animations or cut scenes ?
I also think player models or maybe the stiff jersey fabric look tired and need a different look to go with the improved stadiums .

Maybe because Im in Postseason Mode but I really didnt see any new cut scenes or stat overlays just a new post season banner though sound atmosphere seems to have more depth and character .

Dont like that I cant remove that tiny R2 pitch type box when batting and if I do turn it off I cant see my pitches when Im pitching .

I thought SCEA never removed items but gone are Timid Hitting but I guess its obsolete with using directional and then I notice theres no highlights to watch at the end of the games ?

IMO this game needs all the presentation it can squeeze in especially in Post Season mode so that was my most disappointing thing about this game because SCEA rarely ever removes things I mean you play a nice long game and it plays back the key plays while you sit back and enjoy win or lose .

All in all the game is pretty much what I expected accept for those things removed as we pretty much know what were getting game play wise every year now and hopefully I will see some of those cool lighting effects others have posted in my next game the Cards at Cubs and play ball !

Overall great game but they've ruined hitting for us analog users. My timing's all kinds of jacked up now, struggling to hit on Veteran when in last year's I've always been an All-star+ hitter.

Agree with what the rest of the crowd is saying re: colors, pop, and visuals. Taken to another level this year!

Highlights really gone? I can't find them. OMG. Why? Was a GREAT feature and really added to the presentation as well as just a cool thing to watch at the end of a game. Surely this was done in error??!!?

The radio show will grow stale after a few weeks, but the highlights bring something different every game. Please reconsider in a patch!

Timed is still there. Its just the new Directional hitting. You can use the stick to influence where you're looking for the ball (or not, its up to you) but other than that it's still timed hitting.

Wasnt it and the musical score was great ? But I kept waiting for it to explode and then real players and stadiums but nothing and really strange they chose that intro especially after last years great one so maybe it was supposed to be a artsy introvert thing ?

Last year's game was hitting-friendly. It's way more difficult this year but more realistic imo. It's not ruined for analog users. You just need to adapt and practice. You can use Dynamic difficulty.

I'm only on Vita right now but I still have to say it, can't capture it till PS4 version is out...

Fielder Speed 0, Fielder Reaction 0, Baserunning Speed 5 test... balls hit down the line might never be a double. Outfielders still hug the lines way too much.

I had baserunning speed at 8 before I found out how many triples I was going to have.
