You can still guess pitch, like always.
But on top of guessing, you are now trying to pull (or push) the ball to a certain direction.

Before with timing only, you would guess lets say up and in with a righty hitter, and to pull that pitch you had to swing a little early.

Now you guess up and in, and hold the direction stick where you want to hit the ball while swinging. So theoretically you can push the stick away, and try and inside out swing. Timing still comes into play, but now there is an extra layer of being able to try to influence the ball on the swing in addition to timing it.

You can still guess pitch with directional hitting. I did it last night.

Was asking about guess location, not pitch as they game says "Except when using directional mode".

In my experience so far..Timing is VERY important in Directional Hitting. If you have bad timing and swing early on an outside pitch-- even though you try to influence to the opposite field--you WILL still pull the pitch.

I love how directional doesn't seem to be overpowered. Very cool.

You cannot guess location with directional hitting.

Yes you can, you just have to hold R2 before each pitch and pick the location. It's annoying though, I haven't found a way to disable the "Press R2" prompt. I've always like a clean interface with no strike zones and such and this keeps popping up. It's annoying...

I've found that analog hitting works sort of like timing. Just wondering if anyone else has given this a try yet?

Last year for timing hitting I liked the feature of being able to push L3 to view where the PCI was during that hit versus ball location. It showed whether or not you made good contact or weak contact, as well as how well you timed the swing. Why did they remove this feature?! Now I can't tell where the guy was swinging versus where the ball was. It was good to see because it kind of gave you a sense of who was seeing the ball well and who was not throughout the season. I could prepare for slumps and hot streaks much better.

Affirmative. I did the exact sam thing as I want a clean screen and absolutely no visual aids. Loving this feature big time. They implemented it to perfection.

Playing away....major impressions once I soak it all in are coming soon.

Yeah I get that. I did the same thing as far as the size of the PCI and knowing which guys had better plate vision. Now we will have to know their plate vision ratings better and understand it will mean less or more room for error to get good contact.

But knowing your players is part of the game. But I liked that feature and wonder why it was removed as it would dissapear once the pitch was being thrown.

I played two games last night. No HRs. Nothing to be concerned about, but I don't want to get 10 games into my franchise without a HR only to learn that my approach at the plate has been off.

To me, directional hitting feels a lot like the guess pitch mechanic. If I'm looking in and get a fastball away, it would seem that my power and contact would be penalized.
I play the same way except I do use contact.. but no power swing and it's been great.. Hit some HR's etc... No issues.

You can still see your timing by pressing R2 instead of L3.
Using the directional pad you can toggle between AB log and last pitch.

The last pitch displays timing, but no PCI.

I guess its something in how the game uses timing? There is no PCI with timing...as in thats not what the game uses to determine successful contact?

I know it was there in past years but just an assumption.
