Let's say I'm a wizard at fielding and take the perfect route every time. I cancel out Plouffe ring average. I master the throw meter then I never make a throwing error because I have it down to a science.

I want to avoid having user input take over the game. I just want it as part of the experience.

Let's say I suck at fielding and I start taking bad routes with Trout in CF. Then I have my input far outweigh his ratings. I don't want it either way

I agree, Bloodborne is easier than playing defense in the show!

Near the All-Star break I have Plouffe getting a gold glove right now. No errors still as my starter at 3rd all season. That's before switching to auto. I'm sure he'll make some mistakes now.

Re: How many use "Auto Fielding" vs. going it on their own?

I am really trying to stay with self-fielding. Really trying. It's not easy to botch at least one or two fly balls every single game, and it's not easy to be dead last in errors and fielding percentage, especially when that sort of thing upsets me more than anything else in real life (yes, Cubs, I'm talking about you). Defense has cost me several runs and a couple of games. I am trying to stick with it in an effort to have my results be more based on my skill, but it ain't easy at all!

Now, I'm still a newbie with manual fielding, but I find the controls to be very unresponsive at times. My guys don't make throws to first with any urgency at all. Is this because they botch the transition from glove to hand like they might in a game? Or is it just that the controls aren't responsive? Same with sac flies. Outfielders catch the ball and then throw home pretty much when they feel like it. I'm mashing the stupid button and they do nothing.

The only reason why I haven't gone back to auto-fielding is, I know (I think) I'll get better at it and it will be less of a problem with my franchise.

I think I use assist fielding/analog throwing, and my results are realistic. Errors are part of the game. Automatic fielding wouldn't be interactive enough for me, but I can see where some users find it more in tune with player ratings, etc.

Michael Cuddyer missed on two attempted dive catches last night. I could've easily done that manually

Great job putting down other people because they prefer a different way to play the game.

I switched to auto throwing too because I had 3-4 throwing errors through 4 games. The CPU throws are definitely more clean and crisp than my throws. I have only played 1 games since the switch and in that game one of my OF's threw a runner out at home. Although, my SS had a throwing error, so it wasn't much different than Manual, honestly.

So now I'm on auto fielding, throwing and running, but I may switch back from time to time. Heck, sometimes when my wife is out shopping and I can get a 3 or 4 hour gaming session in I'll even let put it on auto while I pitch or bat so I can watch and eat a sandwich at the same time. Baseball has a long season, so it's great to have so many options to play around with!

Sweet, one of the benefits of auto fielding is a strong immune system!

The only times that I have switched it to autofielding was to get better results.
Sometimes I can't make the diving plays that the CPU can make or I can't see the thing that would cause a slow throw animation and a lollipop throw to 2nd and instead should have thrown to 1st. Eventually the frustration builds up enough to switch over to auto.

                              I understand that aspect.

I don't understand how any one could make their fielders -better- by manually controlling them. A couple people mentioned that their fielders are too good if they control them. How is that?

The point was that I don't want user input to override player ratings. Not that if I user my players they all become HOF caliber. If I'm an amazing manual fielder I don't want that to make a horrible SS into a gold glove winner.

It goes both ways. I don't want to make a gold glove caliber CF turn into a bum or a bum turn into a gold glover caliber CF.
