Re: How many use "Auto Fielding" vs. going it on their own?

Interesting thread. I had no idea "auto fielding" was so popular. It's kind of funny for me because with other games like Madden, I'm a no switch guy. I never user catch, but with The Show, I love running down stuff in the outfield, or digging out a play and gunning a runner down.

I was wondering how you trigger some of those cool animations like a guy sliding on his butt to make a catch, then smoothly coming to his feet for a throw. Guess I know now.

The point was that I don't want user input to override player ratings. Not that if I user my players they all become HOF caliber. If I'm an amazing manual fielder I don't want that to make a horrible SS into a gold glove winner.

It goes both ways. I don't want to make a gold glove caliber CF turn into a bum or a bum turn into a gold glover caliber CF.
I very much agree with this point on a lot of levels, but I always find myself going back and forth philosophically. I absolutely believe ratings have to matter. There has to be that separation between players to create that immersion, but I keep coming back to the point that this is a game. It is interactive. I shouldn't have to play with a great team or a great player to win or make a great play. My input should matter.

Now maybe I shouldn't be able to turn every SS into Andrelton Simmons, but I should be able to make a scrub serviceable. I should be rewarded if I'm playing with anticipation and timing.

The Show is one of the few games I've played that I think keeps that balance. At least from my POV.

The auto fielding system with manual throwing is silky smooth!

I feel a balance with my defenders. McCutchen runs down everything and Plouffe has limited range and often can't finish diving plays.

Even if you manually control the fielders it doesn't mean the ratings go out the window. You're generally going to hit better with higher rated hitters, pitch better with the better pitchers, etc. Why is fielding any different?

You auto fielding guys are really missing out this year. The fielders control so much better this year and is really the most improved aspect of the gameplay for me. Player control is very smooth and responsive with a good amount of weight and momentum to their movements.

I'm sorry but this makes no sense to me? If I feel that using a certain option would prove more useful and beneficial to my enjoyment of the game, why wouldn't I want to do that?

Some users enjoy hitting, some pitching, some fielding, etc...that's the great thing about SCEA as the allowable options allow so many different play styes. I play with a style that brings me the most satisfaction.

I somewhat disagree here..sports game are not an even playing field. Using Battlefield 4 as an example, different guns and attachments have certain ratings tied to them but on a holistic level, they are all balanced. Conversely, Andrelton Simmons is not on the same level as Johnny Peralta and there should be a variance IN GAME that is noticeable.

If I can make a player that has terrible ratings into a great AS or better player...it makes the rating system obsolete then, right? Or at least, it identifies there is a substantial boost/impact the user inputs holds?

Re: How many use "Auto Fielding" vs. going it on their own?

I start out every year using manual fielding, but there always ends up being something that causes me to switch to Auto. Last year it was the ground balls that were too close for a dive, but too far to field back hand for 3B, which seemed to happen all the time. This year, barring a patch to fix it, it looks like is going to be foul pop ups that for some reason I'm not able to go after. I use Oakland so these are fouls that in other stadiums would land in the stands.

I also use button throwing with the meter off because I feel the throwing animation is a lot smoother.

I'm probably going to start using AF due to the struggle with right fielders when I play. In DD in particular even with good players there they struggle with what should be easy balls. Most have been while on the move but I''ve had a couple where the RF is standing under the ball and still misses the catch. I'm not having these issues in left and center, it's strange.

LOL, I think only one person has actually referred to it as "assisted" fielding. Technically, there is no manual fielding... but I get what you all mean.

Re: How many use "Auto Fielding" vs. going it on their own?

I am willing to bet these poll results are a huge eye opener to the development team. I am blown away myself. I would have guessed 10% of people did this.

Its probably too late in the game, but this thread could very well be the start of MLB 16 The Show's primary and featured improvement.

Not to say that the defense is bad. It's just the weakest part of the game. I bet if you combined this year's defense with the pitcher/batter interface from 5 years ago, nobody would complain about defense whatsoever.

I can't play with auto. Takes the fun out for me

I wish base running were auto or easier. I hate it outside of RTTS

Aren't you forced to use auto fielding when playing online? I never understood that...

Auto fielding and throwing permanently for me. I suck when I try to do it myself.
