I do like Ortiz in the 4 hole. I think I would use Betts/Pedroia 1/2, then Hanley or another good hitter 3rd and then Ortiz 4th

In my brewers franchise Lucroy is always my #2. Line up usually looks like this.

      1. Parra

      2. Lucroy

      3. Gomez

      4. Braun

      5. Lind

      6. Gennett

      7. Ramirez/Sardinas

      8. Pitcher

      9. Segura.

I put Addison Russell in the 2 hole, hitting in front of Rizzo, in my franchise and he's tearing it up. Leading my team in HR and RBIs, hitting in the .290s.

Right now it looks like this in 2016:
        1. Fowler CF (had Alcantara here, but he's out for 2-3 months for the 2nd year in a row)
        2. Russell SS
        3. Rizzo 1B
        4. Bryant LF
        5. Montero C (Schwarber got off to a horrible start and was demoted)
        6. Castro 3B
        7. Soler RF (hitting under. 200)
        8. Pitcher
        9. Baez 2B (also hitting under .200)
My favorite teams are better than your favorite teams

          Re: Lineup construction

For me it depends on the types of players I have on the team but generally I like my lineup to shake out like this:

          1. Good contact + capable of working for walks, can steal some bases

          2. Good "get on base" guy

          3. Best all around hitter (generally the teams superstar)

          4. Best power guy

          5. Talented hitter, probably more of free swinger (speed helpful)

          6. Another batter with power

          7. Decent hitter who has knack for coming up with big hits

          8. Worst hitter on the team, hopefully a talented fielder

          9. Pitchers spot
MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox
          NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks
NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues
NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors
College Sports: Pittsburgh Panthers, Penn State Nittany Lions

            I go with season stats:

            1. Best OBP after 3,4,5 hitters
            2. Best AVG vs. L/RHP after 3,4,5,1
            3. Best overall AVG
            4. Best SLG after 3
            5. Best AVG RISP after 3,4
            6. Next best AVG vs. L/RHP
            7. Next best AVG vs. L/RHP
            8. Next best AVG vs. L/RHP
            9. Next best AVG vs. L/RHP

              Re: Lineup construction

I was always under the impression that the worse hitter bats 8th rather than 9th. For example, I currently have Stephen Drew batting 8th and Didi batting 9th. Drew brings more pop to the lineup, but I try to use Didi more as a "double leadoff" kind of guy.

Also I find the whole have your best hitter bat 2nd idea, as he will average out with more at-bats. I'm always torn between batting that guy 2nd or 3rd especially if he has higher power ratings.

                I ALWAYS bat the pitcher/worst hitter 8th.

If it's a guy like McCutchen, I beat him 3rd, if it's Lucroy or Donaldson, I beat him 2nd
