Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
Who said I didn't understand them? Maybe you should think before typing. Bringing sabermetrics into a baseball VIDEO game would turn some of the "casua" fans of the show away honestly because THEY don't get them.
Don't judge my knowledge of the game and statistics based off a post of me stating I don't want these useless stats in a VIDEO game.

Now? I love playing franchise. I want to learn more about the advanced stats. I want to see them incorporated in the game somehow. Honestly, I would love to see the current 'overall' rating system reworked into something new. Something we haven't seen before. If they can make it work, I see no harm. They can always leave DD and RTTS untouched with the current 'overall' system so the 'casual' fans can still enjoy the game.
Most casual fans only stick to those two modes anyway, whereas franchise mode is and always has been geared more towards the hardcore GM audience. That's honestly how it should stay. If a casual fan doesn't want to take the time to learn like I did, then stick to DD. Why should the hardcore audience have to sacrifice innovation towards their main mode because some 'casual' fans find it too hard and don't want to take the time to learn the system?Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
I can't see how going deeper into stat tracking would turn the casual fan away from this game... if MORE stats on players is a bad thing, I'm pretty sure R.B.I. Baseball is only $20Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
I'd definitely like to see sabermetrics in the game. Though stuff like WAR is probably not possible without a few modifications (the real WAR involves defensive analysis... which isn't really possible in The Show unless they just flip the defensive ratings into the defensive metric formula)
ANd I also agree that the presentation of stats needs to improve. Too many important, basic stats are too hard to find.Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
While some sabrmetric stats such as WAR is probably a good thing for "The Show", count me one of those that doesn't necessarily need sabrmetric stats. But then again, I'm down for anything that will make the game better.est 1978

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
Before we start getting to sabermetric stats, first we need the back of the baseball card to be complete. We need the player's entire career, and we need all of the basic stats. They should be able to do this even on the PS3.Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
I wonder how difficult it is to add in the code for sabermetrics. I imagine it'd be easy but I'm not a programmer so who knows. If this is only going to take one guy a day or two to add in, then I say go for it. If it takes more time/resources than that, then I say leave it alone, The Show has other things that need taking care of more than this.
I really am not trying to sound condescending when I say this, but isn't part of the fun for you stat-headed types inputting the scores and generating the numbers yourself? Can't you just make an exel spreadsheet and generate your own WAR by inputting linescores? I guess the data entry is a pain in the rear.
Hmm on second thought I wonder how hard it is to program The Show to spit out exel spreadsheets based on your team's/season's linescores that you could save to a usb thumb drive. I would actually be kind of interested in that feature.
Of course that would only appeal to a very limited market.Comment

Data entry is a pain in the rear, though, especially if you need/want to compare to your franchise's current environment. You'd have to get all the team stats, etc...and hope The Show actually has what you need. As mentioned - defense is particular is sad. Range Factor and Errors don't get it done.
That said, I'm less big on sabermetric stats showing up on the player cards than I am sabermetric principles being in the actual game engine. Stuff like ball-in-play profiles, pitches set using pitch f/x data, having BABIP concepts influencing the results of the game engine, ratings on players set so that areas of the field are harder to defend out of the box, things like that.
That's more my issue with the game and where knowing about sabermetrics annoys me about some aspects of the game play. I don't mind running numbers myself - just wish there was a far better way to see what the LEAGUE was doing rather than having to grab all the team stats.
And, yes, I wish the game would let you export stats to a CSV or XLS file. Oh god yes I'd take that.Last edited by KBLover; 08-08-2015, 01:45 PM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I don't if I'd call it "fun", but I do track it, mostly for guiding when/if I need to adjust sliders and which ones.

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
Sabermetrics is entrenched within baseball; as I mentioned before, several teams are adopting its stats and philosophies more and more.
I don't have any statistics handy but I'm certain that the largest percentage play the franchise mode. I think it's necessary for the development team to have such statistics available...at least in some capacity.
I mean...in franchise mode, we're acting as GM right? Real-life GMs use Sabermetrics to determine the fate of a player (whether to promote, keep or trade). I said before I think if they could partner with FanGraphs and develop it a way, maybe, where it's a SEPARATE screen/function within the franchise, it would really be a boost to the game.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
Yeah OOTP has a lot of them, including WAR.
Also has ZR - which is interesting. Wonder how that's calculated in the game."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
