Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
Not to sound combative or insubordinate, but what wasn't on topic? It's totally about the game. We're discussing the pros and cons of sabermetrics being introduced into the game. Sometimes, opinions on sabermetrics IRL do matter when talking about how they would translate.
Your post was fine and not what I was referring to.Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
Yeah I don't really get what's off topic, lol.
Sabremetrics have become such a big part of baseball, for so many people, it would be so awesome to see them in the game. I'd love to be able to compare Andrelton Simmons to Jose Reyes or something, to see who the better (more valuable) player is.
Please make sure you understand what my post was about before responding. Thanks.Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
So I have a question. From what I've read on the thread it seems that WAR isn't the best at assessing defensive ability. So, especially considering the context of the show, what stat would work best and why? I know we already get the defense rating and the fielding %, which are both fairly easy quantities for someone to digest (especially a newbie to stats).
I guess what I'm trying to say is: is there a stat that can both be easily understood and balances out what resources are already available when judging defence on the show?
I've heard of UZR but I just look at the defensive ratings and fielding % (plus my own hands on judgment) and I feel like I've got a good idea how a player handles on the defensive side of things. So I'm thinking something like an ideal zone coverage chart, similar to hot zones or a hitting chart. Am I wrong? Is there something better?Comment

Re: Sabermetrics & Future MLB: The Show
That's what you're missing. I don't get easily offended at all, nor have I been offended with anything you've said. After a full day's work of being called the worst names in the book and being yelled at all day the last thing I will ever worry about is anything said on a website to me.
As a mod I've had my life threatened as well as the live's of my wife and kids, all for something I do voluntarily. Everything you've said to me the last couple days is child's play to me.
I know you're young and to you this is fun but go ahead and drop it.
Thanks.Last edited by kehlis; 08-14-2015, 07:39 PM.Comment
