Re: New player attributes that you'd like to see

A cool attribute 2K added this year is the Peak Age Start and Peak Age End With every player going down once they turn 33 being the case every year it seems, I think that adding this to the game would be very helpful. Say David Ortiz for example... He is still raking in his late 30's and yet by the end of the season in ever year of the show he is down to like a 70 overall rating at best. I think this would be extremely helpful.

One other thing I'm hoping for is for StatCast to make a big impression on a lot of things. One of these would be the Route Efficiency stat, perfect for all outfielders.

I think that Exit Velocity would be a nice attribute for players, atleast being worked into the contact attribute, maybe like a "Hard Contact" attribute. Hard contact is a slider I believe so that shouldn't be to hard add in. This could also be used for Pitchers. This could also maybe help determine the broken bat tendencies.

Also, HR Distance others have spoken on it, but a HR attribute, and a separate power attribute would be cool. Having even another separate "HR POW" attribute like others talked about based on this data would be cool to see. Stanton's Homers should be going much further than someone like Buster Posey even. Posey will hit an okay amount of home runs, but his are not usually going way out like Stanton's.

Another thing that I'd love to see is the use of Tendencies like 2K uses. Having a pull/slap tendency or something more peculiar like for a pitcher the tendency of players trying to steal a base with them on the mound, and the other way around, like a player stealing against a RHP vs a LHP. Stuff like this would help immerse the game in ways that help make an already very well made, and realistic game even better and even more realistic!

This isn't a new attribute, but rather, a way to represent them. Something I LOVE about OOTP is the option to have a 20-80 ratings scale.

For those unfamiliar with this scale, it's what a majority of scouts use to evaluate talent. Each player has a current rating and future rating somewhere on that 20-80 scale, in increments of 5. a rating of 50 would be league average. ratings like 45 or 55 would be called "fringe-average." Ratings close to 80 are considered elite, with 80's typically only handed out for generational talent. For example, Giancarlo Stanton's power.

If MLBTS had an option to represent ratings this way, or something similar and not quite as granular, I'd be over the moon!

The 20-80 scale would be great, one of the features I wish MLBTS would borrow from OOTP...as well as all the minors

I've posted this before but I suppose I'll go ahead & do it again lol. Like batters have a vs. left & vs. right for power & contact, I'd like the same done for pitchers for h/9, hr/9, k/9 & bb/9.

            Lot of good ideas here.

Though not an rating itself, I would like to see a field in the player's info that allows you to set his designated or ideal lineup position. (1 for leadoff, 4 for cleanup, etc...)

This would be more for historical roster makers but I think it would lessen the need to use 30-team control. If these values were properly set there would be a greater chance that cpu lineup selections would be more logical and more in line with what happened historically.

What it would amount to would be having the cpu look first at this value, so when selecting a leadoff hitter it would look for guys on the roster who have a "1" and consider them first before moving to other factors. Obviously it would need to be more involved, since you wouldn't necessarily want a guy starting over someone else because he is the only "1" on the team, but you catch my drift.

I think lineup logic is improved over years past, but this could make it better.

Re: New player attributes that you'd like to see

I've made a thread about this before but I would LOVE to see a HR distance attribute. For example when Juan Fransisco finishes the year he'll probably finish with 15 HR's. Of those 15, 10 are 450+ foot bombs. I just noticed last year I had the Jays and couldn't hit a HR with Bautista further than 420.

What are the odds two separate guys use Juan Francisco in their analogy for raw power?

100% if you're a Braves fan, is the answer to that question.

New player attributes that you'd like to see

I'd like to see potential separated into two ratings. One for progression and one for regression. Some players decline faster than others, same with prospects. Some each their peak at 29, some at 24. More control of this would allow players like Ichiro and David Ortiz to not retire every time after the first year in my franchise, even after productive seasons. And it would also allow for draft picks to quickly progress if they have a high progression rating. It could also create more busts in the draft and make that more interesting if you don't have a clear picture of what those ratings are for that draft pick. Maybe you pick someone with 96 progression, but has 33 regression. So they reach he majors fast, but quickly decline earlier than other players.

So I guess I would actually want two new ratings and potential to be just that, their peak rating. Separate progression and regression out of potential into their own ratings.

At least split potential into offensive & defensive potential.

Since the introduction of year to year saves isn't this question a moot point??

Not sure how they could incorporate any new attribute into existing saves??

I don't think they would have given us Y2Y saves in the first place, if they thought doing so would prevent them from making any needed improvements in the future.

Off the top of my head, any newly created attributes could have a default value (so everyone imported would have a rating of 60 in this new attribute), or would simply not exist on pre-existing players.
I don't have a degree in computerology though. I'm just kinda putting words together and seeing what happens.

I don't think that feature necessarily 'freezes the game in time' so to speak. In fact, there have already been mentions of a 20-80 scouting scale, which would presumably be at least for rtts. There wasn't a 20-80 scale last year, but even so, I'm betting people will be carrying over their rtts games from last year. As to how everything will work out and what goes where, let's leave that to the guys getting paid to figure it out!

The problem with this and the other ideas is they would have to completely rework the game to get back to the point they are current at with accurate results - and with year to year saves it isn't feasible.

This is really just pure speculation...or do you have inside info about coding the game?

My thought is that games change year to year and devs seem to manage it just fine. The y2y saves issue would be more of a speed bump than an impenetrable obstacle like some of you guys are making it out to be. Again, I doubt they'd implement y2y saves if they could never change anything about the game or its attributes afterward. That's not to say that they will make any of these changes, but this 'y2y saves makes the game frozen in time' line of thinking is extremely illogical.
