User created players (faces) starting to look like plastic dolls

Guys, I guess you want me to be entirely honest with you and this has been catching my eye more and more since the jump to the PS4 era.
Comparing the scanned faces and the user created ones, no matter what amazing job the face creators do, the latter just look much worse. It's smth about the skin texture, the beards, the hair. It's looking last gen, at best. Actually even the guys in the crowd might look better in some instances. Whats making it worse is that concerns the majority of the minor leaguers, darfted players and your rtts creations.
Watching yesterdays dev-diary it looks like nothing will change this year but I feel this is smth the devs should focus on in the future and bring it to the current gen level. Don't you guys agree?

While I think there's always room for improvement, they don't look like dolls. They're actually very good compared to other sports games. The real problem is they've become stale. We've had the same mechanics & templates to work from for quite a few years.

Edit: There was way more going on here than I realized. Ignore my babble.

The created player grid has changed each installment since 2012 I know of and in MLB 15 the grid was much more advanced. They do need to upgrade the options with hair, eyebrow colors, hair styles and lengths etc...

I agree. There is a noticeable difference between created players and face scans and it bugs me.

Another thing that is still left over from years past are ear sizes and the relation they have with helmet width. Some guys have ears that stick out, but unless you like this look, they have to have smaller ears.

As someone who devotes most of his time with RTTS, I agree the Created Players have looked bad for awhile now.

It's not just that they look dated, and they haven't received any kind of update for years in terms of hair styles, facial hair styles, body types, etc. What I hate is the weird glitches that they exhibit constantly.

Glitches like the spotty stubble that disappears and reappears and seems to flicker all the time. You can actually see this at the beginning of the video that was just released.

Also all the weird height fluctuation that appear in cutscenes where you round the base or touch home plate and high five your teamates. Your player will actually be resized and shrink or grow so what I assume is so that a canned animation can be used and they dont have to worry about implementing AI to actually look for your hands.

There is a stark contrast between the skin textures of actual face scans and created players, especially after the update last year. It is especially apparent in the edit screen, where some kind of funky lighting is used that gives darker skin this weird matte look. IMO it was much better on PS3, here's a screen I took of one of my CAPs from 2013:

Obv not the best picture, but you can see the lighting gives some depth to the faces. However, throw a hat or a helmet on there and we get the flat textures.

And on a semi-related note, I think its time for some upgrades to the CPU's face generation capabilities - more often than not the faces generated look like this lol:

Bakin' soda, I got bakin' soda

Good lord that bottom picture looks terrible in comparison. I almost thought it was fake or exaggerated.

I don't get how this glitch continues to exist, this is something that should've been fixed in a patch since MLB 14.

It makes giving created players stubble pointless.

Because it glitches, disappears, reappears, since MLB 14 I've never given any of my RTTS players stubble.

Re: User created players (faces) starting to look like plastic dolls

I recall a big deal was made of the new hair "technology" two years ago (I think?), but unfortunately, it really isn't all that good, IMO. They'd be better off using "2D" hair models if they're easier to make look better.

The Show devs should take notes from PES and EA's NHL series on player creation. Both, in my opinion, have better face creation settings, though for different reasons.

NHL doesn't let you edit faces but includes a very large amount (into the hundreds I believe) of generic face scans that look great (I think they're just scans of anonymous dudes). Due to the sheer number, you're bound to find one that looks pretty close to any face you're trying to create:

PES has been ahead of the curve for a long time, with robust and realistic editing options:

Don Bradman Cricket also has a very robust editor:

Hopefully next year The Show will step it up in the player creation/editing department.

Is that the glitching you are posting about...that GIVING players stubble ....has it disappear during gameplay?

                          Ya.

Stubble will glitch and flash, especially if your dude is turning or the camera is panning around. I have seen alot of weird facial hair glitches the last couple years.

Okay....I get the opposite...NO facial hair and then I see stubble on some camera cuts.

I thought that was your issue as well.

I noted that to Ramone (mine)...but I never really see it the other way(I almost always use Beard2 stubble)....so I never reported it that way.

Did anyone submit a bug report for it that way?

These are the things that irk me as well. Overall the create a player is very robust, but the skin texture and how it reacts to stadium light really kills the immersion (the flickering stubble that appears when there is direct sunlight or other forms of light).

Don't know why they can't fix it becase I've never seen a game have this problem. I feel like reworking the skin textures would help. There seem to be weird shaders in the beard area causing some sort of refraction.
