    MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I’ve finished 3 full 162 seasons over the past 2 years, after never doing so prior. I need to start documenting everything like you CB.

The memories, comebacks, emotions are real and it’s easy to forget about a big hit that had you jumping out of your chair after a week.

Much to my surprise Matt Holliday did not retire. He is going to continue to play at the young age of 39.

I just don't see him being with the Cardinals as our future plans didn't include him, as I really thought he would've retired.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Going into the offseason with the following roster in my mind.

          C - Carson Kelly
          1B - Matt Carpenter
          2B - Kolten Wong
          SS - Paul DeJong
          3B - Patrick Wisdom
          LF - Randal Grichuk
          CF - Magnerius Sierra
          RF - Stephen Piscotty

          C - Josh Thole
          IF - Aledmys Diaz
          IF -
          OF -
          OF -

          Rotation:

          Michael Wacha
          Carlos Martinez
          Lance Lynn
          Mike Leake
          Alex Reyes/John Flaherty

          Bullpen:

          Tyler Lyons
          Kevin Siegrist
          Dean Kiekheffer
          Trevor Rosenthal

          3 empty spots

Now obviously all this is subject to change once we see what the free agent market looks like. We already had one surprise with Matt Holliday not retiring. I really want him to retire a Cardinal, but not sure he fits in our plans. He is so limited defensively and his hitting is declining.

And we aren't planning on bringing Madison Bumgarner back. Output wasn't worth the salary for us. Plus we have a deep farm system for starting pitching.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Thus far in the very infant offseason we have:

Re-signed Lance Lynn to a 5 year deal worth $8.5M per year. There is a club option on the 5th year.

Re-signed Josh Thole to a 1 year deal at $530K

Re-signed Derek Lilliquist to be our pitching coach. 1 year deal

Brought on Terry Pendleton to be our 1st base coach. 1 year deal

The entire staff now has a one year deal. We will re-evaluate the entire organization after this season.

Holy cow the free agent market is loaded!!!!!!

              Notable free agents:

              Jose Fernandez
              Matt Harvey
              Madison Bumgarner
              Bryce Harper
              Manny Machado
              Jake Arrieta
              Andrew Miller
              Paul Goldschmidt
              Sean Doolittle
              A.J. Pollock
              Shelby Miller
              Jose Iglesias
              Jordan Walden
              Devin Mesoraco
              Yoenis Cespedes
              Cody Allen
              Zach Britton

Those are guys rated 85 or above!

There are several more on the market!!! (Dexter Fowler, Jay Bruce, Martin Prado)

I think I'm going to take a moment and re-evaluate our roster and see what we want to do. We certainly have the funds to make a signing or two, but goodness gracious this market is loaded.

Hopefully they sign faster than what has played out in the actual MLB this year.

We put an offer out there for Andrew Miller:

2 years at $22.0MM with a player option for the 2nd year, but he wouldn't be our closer, he would be our 8th inning guy.

Yanks offered 3 years (he wants 4 years @ $10MM per year and to be the closer) 3 years $31.92MM per year as their closer.

                    See what happens.

                      And that didn't take long...

Andrew Miller decided to return to the Bronx to be their closer. Yanks also re-signed Gary Sanchez to a one year deal.

We did get Jordan Walden to re-sign at 2 years for $13MM

And the rich got richer as the Dodgers just signed Matt Harvey to a 6 year $135.2M deal.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Thinking about going after Jose Iglesias. Our plan was to keep Paul DeJong there and bring up Patrick Wisdom to be our everyday third baseman. But Iglesias is a heck of a defender and good hitter, although the last two years his average has declined.

If we made this move then most likely DeJong would go to third and Wisdom would either go back to Memphis or be traded out.

We did make an offer to Devin Mesoraco. Carson Kelly did a good job last year, but he doesn't have the pop that Mesoraco has nor does he have a good arm. Kelly's arm is average at best.

White Sox with a big signing as they got A.J. Pollock on a 5 year $60.6M deal.

The evil empire strikes back as the Yankees land Devin Mesoraco on a 5 year $84M deal. $2M more per year than his asking price.

Diamondbacks re-sign Paul Goldschmidt to a 7 year $178.50M deal.

We re-signed Danny Farqhuar to a one year deal at $2M to avoid arbitration.

Time to re-evaluate the roster situation again.

                            Some big deals going down:

                            * Giants sign Shelby Miller to a 5 year $72M deal. Adds to Cueto and Samardzja who both won 20 games last year.

                            * Braves make a trade with Mariners:

                            Braves get:

                            Andrelton Simmons

                            Mariners get:

                            Carlos Gomez
                            Kyle Muller (Prospect pitcher)

I suspect this means the Ronald Acuna era is about to start in Atlanta.

                            * Pirates sign Jose Fernandez to a 7 year $217M deal. Guess they really want to repeat as Central division champs.

                            * In a shocking move, the Braves also signed Jose Iglesias to a 6 year $94.80M deal. Shocked they did this and traded for Simmons. I expect they will put Iglesias at third.

                            * Diamondbacks re-signed Patrick Corbin to a 5 year $64M deal.

I think we need to look at making a move, but I'm not sure where... I've thought about going after Zach Britton, Evan Gattis (to play catcher), Manny Machado, and Bryce Harper, though the last two really take a shot at our bank roll and could put us in a bind for next season when we have some big free agents of our own.

                            I love baseball.
