    BREAKING CARDINAL NEWS

The Cardinals trade Jedd Gyorko to the Indians

The Cardinals have traded 2B/IF Jedd Gyorko to the Cleveland Indians for a pitching prospect. In an effort to sort out the congestion of the 25 man roster after the Brock Holt trade, the Cardinals decided to move Gyorko who had been struggling to make room for Holt and to make room for Brandon Moss and Stephen Piscotty, both coming back from injuries. Gyorko was hitting just .136 on the year with 0 homeruns and 2 RBI's.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Just want to share a pretty cool sequence in a recent game:

Bottom of the 8th I'm in a tie game 2-2 with the Marlins at home (MIN). Brian Dozier comes to the plate with runners on 2nd/3rd and 2 outs. Dozier hits a low line drive to center field and the CF dives...but misses. Ball rolls to the deepest part of the ball park and sits under the wall padding. Dozier is able to leg it out for the inside the park HR.

The context for the dive attempt was so perfect. It was a do or die moment and the CF went for it. He was really close to catching it.

First batter up in the top of the 9th Dozier makes an incredible leaping/diving play to snag a line drive between 1st/2nd.

Next play game I hit 2 HR with Dozier...he leads the team with a .299 avg and 16 HR and I'm in early-mid June. He's on pace for 40+ HR I believe.

Do you leave it on Auto or manual, and if manual what is your process on scouting. Any help would be much appreciated since this is one part I have struggled with every year.

First, I try to hire efficient scouts that have solid or better discovery or POS/PIT ratings. Efficiency will help you get around to more kids in scouting and "discover out" a region for a player type quickly as possible (though you may not want to wait and move around, depending on your organizational needs).

To start, I use all of them on discover. I don't know if/how much region matters. I like to match up. For example, if I want to scout international heavily, I'll have two international region scouts and let them discover international players (that might just be something I think is needed but might not be...never got much info about it).

Once the 3rd week or so of April comes around, I'll put three on scouting and one on discovery. The "explorer" is the one with the worst scouting ratings and now I don't care about region. I'll probably prefer the one I missed on by "matching" in April. So if I had 2 int'l scouts, a west scout, and an east scout, the "explorer" will focus on Central players for a week or so into early May then vary him based what I'm (not) uncovering in scouting.

Once the scouting circle is green, I'll move on to another kid unless I'm really intrigued by him. Then, I'll scout fully to make sure he's what I think he is. Otherwise, green is good enough and it helps me get around to more kids.

Like NDAlum said, it's still a matter of luck because not all the kids that end up in the pool are there on draft day. Just to show an example, when I finished my draft in my other franchise, I had all 4 Japanese players I scouted in the pool, but the good Cuban pitchers I found weren't there along with some of the other good position players.

I saved (since I didn't want to restart the draft "for real") and went back to the back up I had and started the draft again. This time only the Japanese SS was in the pool. The SP and 2 OFs I saw weren't there. The Cuban pitchers weren't there but a Dominican pitcher was along with a couple American kids.

So there's a lot of "hoping for the best" with scouting. Best you can do if you want to pick kids you had some eyes on is to cast a wide net. Even then, later rounds, chances are you will be blind picking and if you get unlucky, you could be blind ASAP like NDAlum was. Some of those "restart" drafts, I had NO scouted SP on the board and only a handful of kids I scouted at all right out of the gate with the 13th overall pick.

For what it's worth, I picked three guys with high potential (for the rounds they were in, 5th through 7th) blind and two turned out to be potentially decent (B grades with the reliever a high B). The 7th round pick looks good in development...but has no upside (66/D).

After the blue chips are gone, you're left to people you fully scouted. This is a complete crap shoot. You need to hope that some guys you fully scouted are in your draft pool and available and they are decent.

If you see the past few days of posts you'll see that I completely lucked out in the draft. I took two very solid prospects with my first two picks. In all honesty is was luck. If you're outside of the Top 10 in the draft order you're likely going to be picking blind. Past round 1 you're definitely picking blind unless you're lucky and the guys you scouted just happen to be there for you.

I don't have enough experience to give real advice, but what did work for me was taking guys who were unscouted but projected to be 80 rated prospects (aka elite). Will this work again? I have no idea.
Thank you to both of you for the advice. I will give the scouting around and hopefully I can turn these brewers around.

Call it cheating or whatever you want...but I make sure 10 blue chip guys are in the draft pool before I proceed with drafting. Took me about 20 tries to get 10+ blue chips.

My draft pool had 26 blue chip guys to start, so only 40% of them made it in.

I finished April with my Cubs franchise and we have the best record in Baseball(20-4) and are 5.5 games up on the 2nd place Pirates(15-10). This team might even be more dominant than the real life Cubs. We were fortunate to have no injuries at the MLB level through the first month with the exception of Zobrist missing 1 game for being hurt during BP. Many of my players are on a hot streak right now.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I'm about to finish year 3 of my franchise mode, I have all teams selected and mainly run it as a sim, in addition the roster I use is made up of created players, someone uploaded it last year to MLB 15 and I downloaded it and have used it since, it's a lot of fun and I've added my own players to it... Anyways I'll go over what happened in the first year.

Year 1: year 1 was really interesting as every player on all the rosters were rookie eligible it was actually pretty unique. I made up little storylines for all the teams and I think my favorite is the rivalry between the Rockies and Dodgers where their aces were former college rivals. In August the finally had a match up against each other that ended with the Dodgers pitcher Ted Boden who is basically Clayton Kershaw plunk the opposing pitcher Pat Doyle who is a Roy Halladay circa 2010 in the head which lead to a benches clearing brawl. The year ended with both the AL and NL MVP award go to pitchers. Pat Doyle of the Rockies and Clay Swanson of the White Sox, they both won the cy young and rookie of the year awards but neither of their teams made the postseason. The final standings were the Mets, Reds, and Dodgers winning the divisions in the NL while the Nats and Cards made the wild card. In the AL the Red Sox, Indians, and Mariners won their divisions while the Twins and Yankees won the wild card. The World Series ended with the Mets beating the Mariners 4 games to 1

Started a franchise with the Angels. Immediately traded Pujols to the Rockies for prospect Forrest Wall and veteran pitcher Jorge de la Rosa who only had a year on his contract.

Well during the season Wall tore his ACL and retired as did Jorge. Meaning I just gave the Rockies Pujols to avoid his contract for 4 or 5 more seasons.

Used that cleared up money to bring in Carlos Gomez in the offseason as well as much needed depth.

                    <table><td bgcolor=#004684>End of May - 2016</td></table>

What an up and down month May was. Coming in at 11-12. We won the first game of the month then lost 7 straight to move to 12-19. But we were able to bounce back a fair bit and went 13-8 the rest of the month to currently sit at 25-27. The Twins have went 2-8 over the last 10 so we are only 5 games back of 1st place and 3 games back of the Yankees for the 2nd Wild Card.

Offense was improved a bit. After scoring 3.5 runs per game in April we scored 3.8 in May.. Homeruns started to happen a bit more. Hit 23 during the month but still only 26th in the league. Top 5 hitters in the lineup are playing pretty damn good. Reymond Fuentes, Hosmer, Cain, Morales, Gordon are hitting a combined .296/.356/.455. The bottom 4 of the lineup though.... .212/.256/.295 for Moose, Perez, Escobar, Infante. Christian Colon will come off the DL in a couple days. He will get plenty of playing time between 3rd, SS and 2nd. As for Salvy its not like Drew Butera will be taking his spot so he gets to keep sucking.

Not sure if pitching has gotten better or worse. Chris Young was the best starter in April. You could say he still is. 3-4 with a 3.32 ERA in 65 innings. Edinson Volquez was much better this month. He is 1-4 with a 3.32 ERA in 65 innings. He was 0-2 with a 2.15 ERA in 37 and 2/3 innings over 6 starts. Ian Kennedy has fallen off completely after going 3-1 with a 2.97 ERA in April he is now 3-5 with a 4.76 ERA. He gave up 20 runs in 25 1/3 innings for a 7.11 ERA. Yordano Ventura has gotten... Better? Still 0-4 with a 5.50 ERA. Bullpen is going alright still. Herrera, Hochevar, Davis are the main 3 guys. All have an ERA under 2.27 in 21+ IP. Soria has really struggled so far. 4-2 with a 4.07 ERA. He has been moved from a set up role for now. We called up Brian Duensing has a 2.35 ERA in 15 1/3 IP. And Dillion Gee is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 23 1/3 IP. He could get a start in the next week or so to give Ventura/Kennedy some time to figure stuff out.

In AAA Jonathan Dziedzic is still pitching well with a 2.58 ERA in 59 1/3 IP. We moved Eric Skoglund up to AAA and it has worked out well so far. He is 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in 33 IP. We also moved Kyle Zimmer to AAA. In 3 starts he is 0-0 with a 3.71 ERA with an 11.1 K/9.

In AA Andy Ferguson is 3-0 with a 0.70 ERA in 25 2/3 IP with a 0.86 WHIP. Pedro Fernandez is 4-1 with a 1.70 ERA in 42 1/3 IP. Hunter Dozier has slowed down a bit now hitting .278/.341/.411 with 4HR and 21 RBI. Ryan O'Hearn is hitting .262/.356/.490 with 10 HR. Bubba Starling has started to heat up. He is hitting .252/.324/.428 with 6 HR. 19 year old C Chase Vallot was moved to AA from A after Zane Evans was moved to AAA. Vallot is hitting .281/.354/.371. Suprised to see his AVG so high with just 1 HR. Kids best tool is power. It will start showing at some point. Raul Mondesi was put on the DL on the 9th. He will miss a couple months. His replacement is 18 year old SS Marten Gasparini. In 12 games he is hitting .362/.455/.574. Its only 12 games. But its been a damn good 12 games.

                    2016 MLB DRAFT

My Picks (CPU drafted. I renamed the best player to Jackson Yates. Guy I drafted a few years ago and he was great so ive done it ever since. Name is all I change).

Jackson Yates (originally Maury Griffiths) a switch hitting 21 year old catcher than can also play 2B, 3B and LF. The kid is close. A potential already 73 OVR. He could hit .275 with 15+ HR right now. He may be pushing Salvador Perez to DH here in the next year or 2.

Steve Miller is a 20 year old reliever. throws a 4 Seam, Slider and Splitter. Pretty good break on his pitches. He just isnt very good at locating them. C potential 68 OVR.

Alex Hatcher is a 21 year old 1st baseman that can play a bit in the OF. Will be hard for him to ever reach his C potential. But could contribute to us or another team in his late 20's.

Mark Wilkerson is a 22 year old 3rd baseman. D potential but he can make really good contact. Pretty much no power when he does. But could easily raise his ceiling.

Last there is 19 year old short stop Dan Eller. Pretty fast kid with a good arm. Really raw at the plate though. D potential but plenty of time to try and change that.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I had a sneaky suspicion that season two would bring more challenges injury wise than my remarkably healthy season one did.

Without altering any settings, I'm now 25 games into season two and I've lost:

                      Seager: 1-2 months, leg injury
Hernandez: 6 months with torn shoulder labrum
                      Barnes: 1-2 months, arm injury

And to boot, I've lost my top OF prospect, Trayce Thompson for 1-2 months. This is the second major injury he's had in 2 seasons.

The loss of Hernandez is huge. He was off to a torrid start at the plate and was playing 4-5 games a week all over the field as my super sub.

Off-season signee Marwin Gonzalez is filling in at short while Seager is injured. I'm going to have to get creative with replacing Hernandez, who may never be the same after this injury.

It looks like pitching and defense will now be as important as ever if we're going to get to the ASB in position to compete in the West.

Oh man, ever since I lost Andrew Heaney in MLB14 to retirement because of an injury, I always get nervous when I see those 6+ month injuries.

I hope Hernandez comes through it okay for you!

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Well, it was about time. Troy Tulowitzi got hurt at the wrong time. He had been very healthy all year minus a couple minor injuries but about a week until playoffs and he gets hurt. He dove for a ball up the middle and pulled his shoulder. He will miss 3 weeks with the injury and that will likely result in Tulo missing the first round.

The Jays swept the Yankees despite 3 very close games that went to extra innings. In game 3 Cashner was hit by a ball and bruised his shin.

With the injury scare today, the Jays will likely rest starters in the next 2 series. This means Clinton Hollon and Chi Chi Gonzalez will get starts.

Josh Donaldson is back next game which is a good sign and he will move back to 3B. Zack Walters will likely be the starting SS while Tulo is out with Andres Blanco, Andy Burns and Ryan Goins battling for a backup role. Charlie Blackmon will also be back in a few days.

With the Jays on a 7 game winning streak, losing Tulo will hurt, but gaining Blackmon and Donaldson back will lead to some intriguing questions for the playoff roster.

Next update will be an end of season update involving full stats for all players in the system and possibly a playoff update!

World Series Game 7, A's vs Nationals in DC

                            Stephen Strasburg vs Jesse Hahn

Bottom 2nd, Danny Espinosa drives in the game's first run with a single up the middle. Top 3rd, A's tie up the game with a Billy Burns RBI ground out after a lead off triple got under a diving Ben Revere's glove. The A's add another in the 4th on a Carlos Santana home run to take a 2-1 lead. Bottom 6th, with Hahn still on the mound, Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman hit back to back homers to put Washington ahead 3-2. Scoreless 7th and 8th innings from both teams send the game to the 9th with Washington leading by a run.

The Nationals turn to Jonathan Papelbon, who already has two saves in the series. On a 1-2 count Khris Davis sends a line drive single into left field, putting the tying run on base. Papelbon gets two quick outs, bringing up Danny Valencia with two down in the bottom of the 9th, World Series championship on the line.

On the first pitch Valencia gets a high fastball and crushes it, high off the left field foul pole! Down to their last out, the A's take the lead!

After pitching a scoreless 8th, the A's keep Ryan Madson on the mound to face right handed hitter Wilson Ramos. Madson strikes him out on a cutter down and in. Bob Melvin then calls on Sean Doolittle for the final two outs. Doolittle strikes out Espinosa, bringing up Michael Taylor with two down, Nationals down by a run. With a 1-2 count, Doolittle throws a 4 Sean fastball high and tight, Taylor swings through it, and the A's are world champions!!!

Me too! I just paid him for a 4-year extension, as a bench player, that's how valuable I thought he was to our playoff contention. He could play literally any position on the field but pitcher, catcher, or 1B and offer better than average defense and a better than average bat. Last year he even managed to hit 14 HR while not being a full-time starter!

He's actually my favorite player on the roster...I hope his career isn't over because of this!

Just hit All-Star Break 2016 with my Mets

                                1st in NL East
55-33 (5.0 games ahead of Nationals)
                                Team Stats: .249 AVG (24th), 371 R (10th), 106 HR (7th), .408 SLG (14th), .325 OBP (15th), 21 SB (28th) 2.80 ERA (3rd), 824 K (1st), .991 FLD% (4th)

                                Lineup:
RF Curtis Granderson (having one of his best years - 16HR, 46RBI .284/.384/.475 line, one of the league's best leadoff hitters)
3B David Wright (no longer has that power but still a great hitter - .291/.381/.456, leading the team with 22 2Bs, only 5HR)
LF Michael Conforto (with Grandy and Cap getting on base at high rates and Cespy behind him, he's getting a lot to look at. leads team with 18HR/49RBI - .258/.323/.493)
CF Yoenis Cespedes (not as hot as last year but his NL tear continues, 16HR 49RBI - .275/.337/.468)
1B Lucas Duda (.238/.311/.396 with 80K already, looking like Adam Dunn, does still provide pop with 12HR 42RBI)
2B Neil Walker (on pace for career highs in nearly every hitting stat, sitting pretty at .296/.371/.502. his 14HR 45RBI helped name him an NL All-Star)
C Travis d'Arnaud (.207/.282/.365 8HR 32RBI - slowly losing time to Plawecki who has outperformed Travis in all aspects)
SS Wilmer Flores (.199/.264/.343 5HR 14RBI - every SS now since Asdrubal Cabrera broke his foot and has missed about 20 games, both have been disappointments at the plate)

                                Bench:
CF Brandon Nimmo (very recent call up after Juan Lagares fractured his forearm - 2-10 since then)
2B Danny Muno (was called up when Cabrera broke his foot - 2/11 since then)
C Rene Rivera (called up when Eric Campbell tore his finger ligament, serves as Duda's rest-day backup - 3-23 since then)
C Kevin Plawecki (starting to split him and Travis 50/50. Plawecki has been great at the plate - .309/.355/.409 but doesn't have the power Travis provides)
LF Alejandro de Aza (.288/.382/.475, backup OF and best pinch hitter on the team - all 3 of his HRs were pinch hits)

                                Rotation:
Matt Harvey 7-5 2.68ERA 1.08WHIP 126K (improving from last year but has been a little shaky with the BB, highest BB/9 since his rookie year)
Jacob deGrom 8-4 3.04ERA 1.22WHIP 124K (last couple starts have seen him struggle, he started June with a 2.19ERA but had a rough month)
Noah Syndergaard 11-3 2.23ERA 0.97WHIP 160K (dominating this season, he's our Ace. leads MLB in K)
Steven Matz 7-4 3.26ERA 1.32WHIP 81K (opposite of deGrom - he was worrying us early in the year but has been HOT as of late. 3-0 with sub-2.3ERA in his last 4 starts)
Bartolo Colon (covering Wheeler for his recent injury, Colon is our spot-starter/long-relief - 3-0 1.84ERA 0.82ERA in 29.1 IP, going to be making his 1st start soon)

                                Bullpen:
                                Jerry Blevins
                                Jim Henderson

Jeurys Familia (26SV 2BSV 1.39ERA 1.24WHIP 46K/32.1 IP - sominant year, just got rocked in those 2 games he had the blown saves which caused his ERA to skyrocket)

                                Leaders:
                                AVG (Plawecki .309 in 110AB) - (Walker .296 in 311AB for everyday)
