A great diving play by Byron Buxton saved a run in the 6th. Ended up getting a no decision and we lost 2-1 in a walk off single 9th. Connors actually struck out the side in the 7th to my surprise. Great way to finish off his start. I just couldn't generate any offense for him.

Julio Urias is expected to play tomorrow for the Dodgers. Reading that made me think of your 19-year-old who's debuted in your franchise.

    See? It happens

Haha yea I saw that too and it made me feel better. I know most of us on OS stress realism so we don't want to do something too out of the ordinary. I feel like I've stayed pretty close to what could happen in the realm of the real world.

Also for those interested, I updated my sig to show the Google docs page I keep on the Twins franchise I run. I'm not much of a story teller. I'm a stat guy

That's a great question but I haven't had the opportunity to really worry about that yet. In the two seasons I mainly simmed through I don't think any player has been selected in the Rule 5 draft. Much better roster management by the CPU AI...

So I wonder if you're safe with your A and B prospects who are below 75-ish OVR...

If the CPU roster management is better, maybe they'll only reach in the Rule 5 draft for a guy who can start that year for that team, not just be a highly rated bench player.

I'd like not to have to put every single top spec over 60 on the 40-man for fear of a Rule 5 loss, but that's what I've been doing to hedge my bets.

And I think we do it to the point of forgetting that the out of the ordinary is also realistic, especially if the reasoning behind it is plausible.

              For me, it's simple.

Do I expect him to fill a valuable role within one of the following time frames:

              -Now?
              -Sometime this year?
-Sometime within the next two years?

Then he goes on the protect list and in order of that priority. So if there's a kid I like, but someone who's farther along (in terms of what I need, not necessarily OVR/POT), then the kid I like I'll have to risk exposing unless I can find a spot to take on the 40-man (usually, I'll find one somewhere...even if only a guy who's there only because he filled in for injury the prior year).

I've lost a couple like that, but no one that I really, really expect to need and as such the organization as a whole endures the loss.

And the last rule on my figurative checksheet:

              "When in doubt, protect."
"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

With the drop of OSFM Hybrid rosters, my franchise has finally kicked into gear. I was able to get off to a hot start at the plate on opening day as I pummeled Keuchel and the Astros 9-1. I figure that if hitting becomes to easy on the sliders I have now that I'll have to up the difficulty after ten games.

Does anyone have recommendations for zone hitting style with QC on? So far I'm using Armor/Sword sliders and I haven't found the hitting to be too hard, just yet.

Currently 5-3 with the Cubs using Hybrid roster. Schwarber, Hammel are both out for year and Russell is out 60 days. Have Baez Starting at short and called up Pierce Johnson who rotates with Richard for the 5th spot until I figure out what to do roster wise. All in all I'm having a blast minus the bad luck with injury.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I am doing a 30 team control Yankees franchise and I figured I would start posting updates about it in here. I am using the OSFM 1.5 roster with default sliders except for lowering the trade frequency slider until it gets closer to the deadline. I have a slider file I load up for myself before I play a game. The only change I make with it is upping the injury frequency slider to 6. I know others use 7 or 8 but I'm not sure if I should make it higher yet.

I play one game a series with a different pitcher pitcher each time. Once in a while I play 2 a series. Right now I am on May 9th with a 15-16 record in third place behind the Red Sox and Blue Jays. I'm 5.0 games out of first and 4.5 behind the Jays for second place.

We need to improve offensively as the team batting average is a low .235 wich is the 27th worst in the league. Only the Brewers, Nationals, and Rays have worse averages. Our 43 total team home runs which is the 4th most in the league are likely what's been covering up the bad team average a bit. Tex started out slow for me but his bat has started coming alive over the last few weeks. I will likely stick what I have on the major league roster offensively as theirs no one else making me want to call them up to replace Ackley or Torreyes on the bench. I am definately keeping Judge down till after the deadline at the very earliest, likely later in the year after the trade deadline unless he's truly lighting it up at AAA. Not that theirs room for him in the majors this year anyway unless injury strikes or I make room by moving an outfielder at the deadline. Same goes for Gary Sanchez pretty much. I could demote Romine but I prefer Sanchez starting everyday at AAA over sitting on the bench most days on the major league club.

Pitching wise we are decent but could use a bit of improvement as we are only middle of the pack in team ERA. With a 1-3 record with a 5.27 ERA Tanaka hasn't been the ace he needs to be and he needs to improve in order for us to have a shot at the division. Pineda and Eovaldi have been pretty good but neither have performed at ace levels which we could out of one of them with Tanaka struggling. CC is arguably the best starter we have right now. He has a 3-0 record with a 2.40 ERA. As for Severino, he's been struggling like real life Severino. He is cold with a 1-5 record with a 4.72 ERA. Might have to consider giving him a short stint in the minors for a bit to let him try to turn it around down their. It's still early so this could change but one of the factors making me consider it is Anthony Swarzak. Now he's no prospect anymore at age 30 but he is on fire at AAA with a 5-0 record and a 2.20 ERA so he is tempting me to give him a shot at the major league level in the rotation. If he can continue his success at AAA and if Severino dosen't improve soon i might give Swarzak a chance. As for the Bullpen, getting Chapman back should be a nice boost. I've been playing it like real life with leaving Chapman in A ball until he was eligible to return in real life and now I've made it to the 9th. I demoted Barbato for Chapman so Barbato could get more use at AAA. The pen's been sharp except for Yates and Pestano.

Damn that is a rough start with injuries.

Marlins faltered in Game 1 of the Fall Classic, losing in 12 innings to the O's, 4-3.

Huff, the Marlins starter, had a decent outing. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings of work, but found himself behind 3-1 through six.

The Marlins rallied with a Harper home run in the 7th and the tying run in the 8th when Tommy Cruz stroked a double.

But the O's would walk off the winners, thanks to a solo shot by Crook in the 12th off Bruce Rondon.

The Marlins will look to secure the road split with Luis Heredia (1-0, 1.35 in playoffs) against hot Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0, 1.78 in playoffs).

Well I took Schwarber out for the year manually for a realistic side to my franchise. I think I may have pushed Hammel a bit because he had grown tired and kept him in to finish out and ended up tearing his labrum and then Russell broke his shin bone but for some reason stayed in to finish the game which was weird. I relish the challenge because I guess it gives me an excuse to make a move quicker than anticipated lol but we will see. Only 8 games in but this is the most exciting franchise I've started as far as turn out of games and yes, injury. Time to play Theo and brain storm lol

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Good gracious these games have been insane!

On the heels of a 12-inning affair, the Marlins and O's went WAY late into the night...needing a staggering 17 innings to settle the score!

Heredia faltered in this game, giving up 3 runs in the first inning. He settled down but still had four tallies against him. The Marlins made it 4-3 and then tied it in the 8th at 4-4 on a home run by Chris Taylor of all people.

After that...O's long man Skulina throw the equivalent of a 3-hit shutout. He went 9 innings of 3-hit ball to keep giving the O's chances.

The Marlins bullpen tried to suck up the innings as best they could. Mattingly didn't want to turn to his long man, Rule 5 pick up Michael Mader. In the end, they went 11 1/3 scoreless innings. But Mader had to come in. He got one out...then gave up a double and a single to suffer the defeat.

It's hard to say the Marlins have been disappointing, but they are facing a team that won 22 fewer games than them in the regular season. But the O's are playing scrappy ball and the Marlins have been relatively flat.

They'll need to have a strong showing in Marlins Park or this series could be over before they know it.

Moses Bartlett (0-0, 6.00) and his old-school, Charlie Hough-style knuckleball will be going up against Kevin Gausman (1-0, 2.57) in a pivotal game 3. The Marlins could fight back into the series, or be pushed to the brink.

Moses Bartlett complained of a migraine and having a tough time seeing, but he's still going to play. A knuckleballer that can't see. Wonderful.

Marlins get a crucial win thanks to one inning where the bats showed up.

The second inning saw Jose Campos open the floodgates with a 3-run HR. After that, Harper and Davis also hit home runs to key a 7-run attack that put the Marlins up 8-1. Then they took the rest of the night off, mustering just 2 hits.

Bartlett was excellent. The knuckler was dancing most of the night. He gave up 2 runs in 6 innings.

Mattingly wanted more but decided not to push things. He turned to Mader. Early on, it looked like Mader wouldn't be around long. He gave up 2-run HR in his first inning of work, but he was aces after that, earning the 3-inning save and giving the rest of the bullpen a much needed day off.

The Marlins will hope to square the series as they send Damian Boeve (2-0, 0.00) up against flamethrowing youngster Michael Feliz (0-0, 7.20).

Game 1 couldnt have gone much better for us. 3-0 win over the Astros in Houston. Was a pitchers dual most of the game. Through 6 innings there were 3 hits combined. Then in the 7th the Royals continued what they had done the last few post seasons. With one on Alex Gordon broke his bat and ended basically being a bunt towards 3rd. Valbuena over threw 1st trying to get the out which put runners or 2nd and 3rd. And the next batter Escobar singled to center to score both runs. We added one in the 7th but it wouldnt matter as Ventura, Herrera and Davis combined to go 9 innings with 2 hits (probably should have been an error) 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. We ended up reaching base a total of 9 times. 4 of those from Jarrod Dyson. He was 1-1 with 3 walks. On to game 2 as Dillon Gee goes up against Lance McCullers.

Blue Jays beat the Indians 7-4 to take a 1-0 lead in their series.

Cubs beat the Mets 2-0 in game 1. In game 2 the Cubs scored 3 in the top of the 9th to take a 6-4 lead and win. They are up 2-0 in their series.

Cardinals beat the Giants 1-0 in game 1 and 3-1 in game 2 to take a 2-0 lead in that series.

We answered right back though with a Christian Colon single to right to score Moose and tie the game up. Moose scored the next run in the 4th thanks to a solo home run. But the Astros answered right back with a solo homer of their own from George Springer in the bottom half of the inning. Followed by a Jose Altuve single in the 5th that scored Singleton to take a 3-2 lead. Top of the 6th Alex Gordon hits a solo homer to right to tie the game back up and then Eric Hosmer brings in Colon in the 7th to take a 4-3 lead. But Astros again answer right back in the bottom of the inning. Brought in Luke hochevar and it did not go well. 4 straight hits without an out and its 5-4 Houston. Top of the 9th we go. Luke Gregerson on for the save. First batter he faces is Jarrod Dyson. And just like you expect from Dyson in that situation he hits a no doubter to right field to tie the game up at 5. Bottom of the 11th. Jason Vargas walks Colby Rasmus to lead the bases with 2 outs. Wade Davis comes on to try and get out of it. But on a 3-2 pitch he leaves a fastball high to Preston Tucker and walks in the winning run. Astros tie the series up 1-1 and we head to KC for game 3. Mike Minor will be on the mound taking on Doug Fister.

Blue Jays beat the Indians 12-3 to take a 2-0 series lead.

Giants beat the Cardinals 8-5 thanks to a 5 run 8th inning. They still trail the series 2-1.

Mets beat the Cubs 8-7 after taking the lead in the top of the 7th. 2nd game with a blown save in that series. Cubs lead the series 2-1.
