Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

After struggling hard with 17 I went back and continued my 16 franchise and am having a blast. This is a game, it may be a sim but it is a game... first and foremost. I am taking my World Champion Oakland A;s for a repeat before my old team is dismantled. (fantasy drafted).

I started this franchise this year with carrying it over to 17, but after not being able to hit or pitch well on 17 and going 0-3 I decided it was time for a break. started MANY other franchises in 17 but just didn't like the feel of the game.

after what seemed like forever I decided to give up on 17 and went back to 16 and couldn't be happier. I am kicking butt and taking names... I am on an early season win streak of 11 games. started the season as I said on 17 going 0-. and am now 11-3.

My goal is to break the Oakland A's 2002 20 game win streak. then if I get there I am going to go after my own 42 game win streak from ASB 2005. if I reach that level then the gloves are off and I am going for broke... undefeated for the rest of the season.

I know a lot of you are like how is that realistic, or what fun would that be... well toe me it is very fun to win and win big. I really thought after years of being this way that I was ready to come around to the real blah stuff but no... winning is all that matters... losing is for losers.... winning is fun.

by the end of the season, I should have over $1 Billion in avail funds... (another reason I decided to go back was the new banking system) so I am set for many years to come in this franchise...

I won't be giving updates here due to probably no one giving a crap of my Rookie-level world crushing ways... but I will be having a blast with this game.

      I'd follow your updates.

I enjoy reading about other people's franchise experiences.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We got our butts handed to us in LA as we were swept by the Dodgers. Our division lead still holds at 5 games as both the Cubs and Pirates didn't have great series as well. Kershaw shut us down in game 1 and we also lost Holliday for the rest of the series due to an injury. Ryu dominated us in game 2 and Wood shut us down in game 3. In fact we only scored 3 runs in the entire series, 1 in each game.

We did get Holliday back as we head to Colorado for 3 games with the Rockies. We also got Lynn back. And we found out that Carpenter will return with about 11 days left in the season. Hopefully we can make 3rd base work until his return and maintain our lead.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Things weren't much better in Colorado as we lost 2 out of 3 to the Rockies. We are just not playing very well right now, but the good thing is that neither are the Cubs or Pirates so our lead remains 5 games.

We got Bryan Pena back which will mean that Molina can have a few extra days off since Pena has been playing so well. Hopefully he continues his great play after coming back from the injury. Since Holliday has been back, he has struggled as his average has dropped below .300 for the first time since early May.

September call ups are around the corner but we may have to wait longer as the Memphis Redbirds are winning their division and are looking to be playoff bound. So we'll only receive one or two players from Springfield when the call ups happen in a week. Will be nice to have a full 40 man roster as we try to survive the remaining scheduled and reach the postseason.

Patrick Wisdom is not getting the job done at 3B. His glove isn't bad, but his hitting is really hurting the team right now and with Carpenter out our lineup is so unbalanced. Don't have a true #3 hitter and honestly don't have a true #6 hitter, as we continue to use Aledmys Diaz in that spot. Jon Jay is doing an admirable job at CF and lead off, but his lack of speed really hurts our ability to use the running game to help a punchless offense at this point.

Next up is 3 vs the Brewers and 4 against the Padres in Busch Stadium. Hopefully getting back home will ignite a fire that puts us on course to win 7 out of 10.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We bounced back by taking 2 out of 3 against the Brewers at home. Our lead is at 4 games over the Pirates and 5 over the Cubs. Next up is 4 against the Padres at home, which will turn the calendar to September.

In a move that I've debated since about June and then debated in July and then debated in August, we placed Adam Wainwright on trade waivers. I don't know that we'll actually move him, but his struggles continue as he lost the one game of the series vs the Brewers and didn't make it past 4 innings. He just doesn't have stuff anymore. He scatters hits frequently and his ability to strike out hitters is a thing of the past. And the worst thing is that he's got another year left on his contract at $19M for the year. I don't really want to move him as he's a Cardinal, but between his contract and declining production, if we are able to find someone willing to take him on, we may just let him go. If we get to the playoffs he'll more than likely go to the pen as Wacha, Leake, and Martinez will be starters as well as either Lance Lynn or Brett Anderson. Going into next year, I don't see Wainwright being in the rotation and I'm not paying $19M to a reliever.

I don't expect there to be a market for him at this point in the season, but this was a move to gauge interest for future consideration.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We took 3 out of 4 against the Padres as the calendar flipped to September. Won game 4 of the series with a walkoff double by Aledmys Diaz. Next up is 3 in Cincinnati, 3 in Texas, and then 3 in Pittsburgh. Our lead is still 4 games over the Pirates and 6 over the Cubs.

We got Brett Anderson back and get Magnerius Sierra back in 2-3 days. Carpenter will be back for the final 10 games of the season.

Memphis has made the playoffs in AAA, so we'll have to wait for those players to join the club for September call ups.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We took 2 out of 3 in Cincinnati and still lead the division by 4 games over the Pirates and 9 1/2 over the Cubs. Neither of them can put together a winning streak. We have Sierra and Brett Anderson back so we are almost completely healthy. Still 10 days away from getting Carpenter back which will be a huge lift to our offense, as the number 3 hole is stagnant offensively.

Still waiting on Memphis to complete their postseason run so that we can get a full 40 man roster for the final 3 weeks of the season.

Next up is 3 in Texas before we go home for the final homestand of the season which is 10 games.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We avoided the sweep as we took game 3 of the series against the Rangers in Texas. Michael Wacha picked up his 18th win on the year as he continues his quest for the NL Cy Young award.

Next up is 3 against the Pirates at PNC Park as we battle for the NL Central crown. The Pirates are just 3 games back as we play 3. We also play 3 more against the Pirates in about 10 days in St.Louis.

                    Our remaining schedule:

                    3 @ Pirates
                    4 vs Reds
                    3 vs Cubs
                    3 vs Pirates
                    4 @ Brewers
                    3 @ Cubs

That's 12 games against the Cubs and Pirates who both still have a shot at winning the division, although the Cubs have recently faded as they sit 8 1/2 games back. A sweep of the Buccos in Pittsburgh would be monumental in us securing the NL Central crown.

We should have Matt Carpenter back for the series against the Cubs.

Lost 2 out of 3 to the Pirates in Pittsburgh which means our lead is down to 2 games. Our bats have gone cold and our pitching is really letting us down. Mike Leake in his last 2 starts has pitched a total of 5 2/3 innings, allowed 15 runs, 3 strikeouts, 6 walks, and 5 homeruns. Not typical of how he's been all year.

We are now going home for our final homestand of the year which is 10 games. We begin with 4 against the Reds and hope that we can bounce back to mid-season form and push this lead back out to 5 games or so. We'll play 3 against the Cubs and finish up with 3 games against the Pirates. We will then play 4 in Milwaukee and 3 in Chicago to conclude the regular season.

Matt Carpenter is back in 5 days. Can't get here soon enough.

We split a 4 game series with the Reds and our lead in the division over the Pirates is now a single game. Next up is 3 at home against the Cubs. Matt Carpenter will be back for this series and Memphis has ended its playoff run, so we will have a full 40 man roster for the last two weeks of the season.

We managed to win game 3 of the series against the Cubs to avoid the sweep. Luckily, the Pirates lost 2 of their 3 games with the Diamondbacks and our division lead still stands at 1 game over the Pirates. Our lead over the Cubs is 6 games.

We have 10 games left on the season. Next up is a critical 3 games series against the Pirates as we close out the regular season in Busch stadium. Hopefully we can get back into mid-season form as right now we are just a very undisciplined ball club. Hitting poorly, pitching letting us down, and we are committing errors and base running blunders that Little Leaguers don't make.

                          10 games. Let's do this!

                            Welcome back Matt Carpenter!!!

Game 1 of a pivotal 3 game series with the Pirates and Matt Carpenter hits a walkoff 2 run bomb in the bottom of the 9th to give us the win 3-1!!!

Our lead is now 2 games in the Central division.

2 games left with the Buccos and 2 left at Busch for the regular season. Let's see what heroics we have in store for game 2.

Lead back down to 1 game as we lost game 2 of the series 6-3. Got down early 3-0 but tied it in the 6th. Then Danny Farqhuar gave up a 2 run blast to Starling Marte that turned out to be the game winner. The 4th game he's lost in his short stint with our club. Regretting this trade.

Next up is game 3 where we will either be up by 2 games or tied with the Pirates with 7 games to go. Mike Leake, who has absolutely struggled, against Gerrit Cole.

The AL playoffs are pretty much set:

AL East: Rays (6 1/2 up with 7/8 to play - clinched playoff spot)
                              AL Central: Indians (Clinched)
                              AL West: Astros (Clinched)
                              W/C 1: Mariners
                              W/C 2: Blue Jays

White Sox are 5 out with 7 games left.

The NL teams are set but divisional races tighter:

NL East: Mets ( 1 game lead on Nats. Have 4 games left with Nats on season)
NL Central: Cardinals ( 1 game lead on Pirates. One game left vs Pirates. 6 game lead on Cubs)
                              NL West: Dodgers (Clinched)
                              W/C 1: Pirates
                              W/C 2: Nationals

Cubs are 3 games out with 8 left to play.

Every game is like playoff baseball.

And the lead is back up to 2 games over the Pirates as we win the rubber match 2-0. Mike Leake was outstanding pitching 8 1/3 scoreless innings. He was pulled with 1 out in the 9th after giving up a single to Jung Ho Kang. Trevor Rosenthal who yielded an infield hit to Starling Marte, closed the door by striking out John Jaso and Elias Diaz to secure the win.
