played 1, lost 1
Ill expand on this now ive settled down a bit.
Tigers (me) @ Marlins. 1st frame we go 2 up on Fernandez, the 1st run thanks to a passed ball, the 2nd is a bases loaded walk! It stays that way until the 4th, when Marcell Ozuna hits one off the outfield wall... my outfielders are all over the place and it ends up a 2R Inside the Parker!
We roll on, 7th inning and as I prepare to remove Zimmerman... ding, its 3-2 Miami. Im in a hole.
8th frame, we load them up with 2 outs. Im stressing, but we squeeze in the tying run which in the end forces extras.
The 10th, and we go up 4-3. But go on to strand a full deck, in the end we strand 17 runners off 15 hits. However Rodriguez is unable to seal the deal and is lucky to only give up 1 run, as Miami bunt their runner home.
Now its the 11th and a leadoff solo shot by Salty' (who was 0-5 at that point) gives me hope. Again we strand a runner, but surely we did enough? Well no, up steps Justin Bour who would drill a 2 run shot dead center off Michael Fulmer for the walkoff 6-5 Miami win. We outhit our hosts 15-8, but in the end, we showed little for it.Last edited by bestbrother; 05-17-2016, 03:21 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
This isn't consistent then.. I've got Hosmer batting 4th and the guy is down from an 86 to a 79 now because he's hitting .230 with no power and it says "Bench" instead of "Star"
Really confusing. I think the whole morale system needs some work.. No matter where I bat Hoz he's always labeled as "bench". Really frustrating.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Wow, Connors is a wonderful pick. Could he possibly contend for a rotation spot right out of Spring Training in your next season? Kind of the pitching version of Bryce Harper (big league starter at 19).
Dawson is a nice grab also. Power hitting catcher that should be at least adequate defensively. Can't argue with that, and if he does hit well, that could cause his projections to elevate (higher pot). How do you plan to develop him? Round out his contact and make him a decent contact guy with some power or specialize in power and make him a slugger that might be somewhat streaky?
Since Dawson is 22 I could see him joining the club around the ASB. I am going to get his contact up because his power looks like it's enough to hit 20+ HR.
My Twins are now sitting at 23-34 and it's not looking good. The fire sale might happen soon...SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
We just finished the first off-season and are ready to start season two.
Our off-season strategy was to retain as much organizational talent as possible. We only looked to FA for bullpen depth and bench players. Our notable pickups include:
RP Jerry Blevins
RP Blaine Boyer
1B/3B Pedro Alvarez
OF Craig Gentry
Now our rotation and bullpen includes:
Kershaw
Kazmir
Maeda
Ryu
McCarthy
Anderson (LRP)
Garcia (MRP)
Hatcher (MRP)
Avilan (MRP)
Baez (SU)
Howell (SU)
Jansen (CP)
Our starting lineup and bench vs. RHP is:
Crawford (LF)
Turner (3B)
Gonzalez (1B)
Puig (RF)
Seager (SS)
Grandal (C)
Kendrick (2B)
Pitcher's Spot
Pederson (CF)
Alvarez
Ethier
Gentry
Hernandez
Barnes
I was really pleased at the roster continuity from season one to season two. The only player who wasn't on the team last year who will have a significant role is Craig Gentry, who will platoon with Crawford vs. LHP in the leadoff spot.
We decided to extend super sub and defensive whiz Kike Hernandez for 4 years @ $2M/yr. because of his incredible consistency at every defensive position he plays (IF and OF) and his 77/97 RHP/LHP contact ratings.
We also extended Pederson for 4 years @ $4M/yr. because of his rare power potential, incredible durability (95) and plus defensive ratings.
And lastly, we extended Seager for 5 years @ $5M/yr. because he flashed plus defense and won a Silver Slugger in his rookie year.
Ideally, this will be our organizational philosophy: draft well, promote from within, and pay up to lock young players with star potential up through the upward arc of their career trajectory.
We enter the season with Urias and Lee both listed as top 50 rookies. Both are starting the season in AAA after doing very well at AA and making September call ups. Urias looks to be no more than a year away, and Lee could contend for a long reliever spot in a year.
Positionally, Micah Johnson and Trayce Thompson, who both had September call ups, will start out again in AA and will move up to AAA if they're hot a month in. My goal is to have both on the big league club to start year 3.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Update on my 30 team control red sox franchise. Finally started the regular season after not having much time to play ST. Right now we are sitting at 6-5. Pitching has been very good, with starters lasting 6+ innings every game. Price has not been great, similar to real life. Kimbrel blew his first save opportunity but has been money since. Tazawa, Uehara, and Smith have not allowed a run in about 15 combined innings of work.
Offense has been struggling since the start. It didnt help that i had to face Kluber, Carrasco, and Salazar out of the gate. But i was way over anxious and swung at way too many bad pitches. As a result their have been many low batting averages and i hope to increase them soon before i dig a hole too big to climb out of. I start off every season like this lol. The past few games have seen an increase, as Ortiz has hit all 4 of his homers in the past 4 games, and we are getting contributions up and down the lineup. Swihart hit a walk off homer a couple of days ago, and Shaw homered twice in the first series. Holt is our leading hitter at .283 and averages range from there to Pedroia's .170, whom I never seem to be able to hit with. Overall it has been decent, and could be worse, but the offense needs to be more consistent so we do not have to rely on our starters to throw 1 run gems every time out.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Yeah seems like most of the kids should then be "discovered" and then you can concentrate on scouting the pool so you can have more scouted prospects instead of having to spend time discovering and then you can't scout as much and then who you do scout might not be in the draft...really making it a wasted effort."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
Kike was a 77 OVR and is a bench player. I'm not sure how much more than that he'd get to start on another team, but I could see him being happy with a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal on a championship team.
Pederson was an 80 OVR and his deal is that he's basically a platoon player due to very low contact ratings vs. LHP. I happen to have the luxury of putting him at the bottom of the order and counting any offensive production at all as gravy. I wouldn't have paid him that money for that many years if I had a major hole in the 3-5 slots in my order.
With those two, I feel like even if they fail to progress at all, I have positive value through the life of the contract if Kike hits .250 and plays great defense and Joc hits .230 with good power numbers and great defense.
Seager's deal will pay him significantly more through his renewable and early arbitration years than I could pay him, but it will make him a FA @ 27, when he'll be ripe for a huge payday that I may not be able to deliver.
I wonder if this is part of the thinking of early career players. Had I decided to lock Seager up until he was 30, the price tag would have gone through the roof because he'd be missing his chance for a big FA pay day.
I also spent significant money firing all my crappy coaches and hiring A-rated coaches at high salaries across the board. I wanted that and my team performance to be positive influences on FA signings, and I think that helped some too.Comment

Cards walkoff Astros...win 5-2
Jhonny Peralta hit a 3 run walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 9th as the Cardinals beat the Astros 5-2. The win splits the mini 2 game series.
The Cardinals went back to an older lineup with Peralta hitting 6th, Randal Grichuk hitting 5th, and Moss hitting 4th, and while Moss didn't produce with the bat,(he walked twice) he was able to get the 9th inning rally started with a walk. That was followed by a Randal Grichuk single into left and then Peralta's 3 run blast. Peralta finished the day with 4 RBI.
Adam Wainwright was dominant but didn't factor into the decision as he left the game with an apparent injury to the ribcage. Wainwright had a no hitter thru 5 until Luis Valbuena launched a solo shot into the right field seats to tie the game at 1-1. Wainwright will be examined later.
The Cardinals are off tomorrow but welcome to the Rangers to Busch for a weekend 3 game series.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
I'm late to the party this year since DD has finally grabbed my attention this year. About to start my franchise but first I was curious on how you guys attacked scouting. Do you leave it on Auto or manual, and if manual what is your process on scouting. Any help would be much appreciated since this is one part I have struggled with every year.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
2 out of 3 games against the Red Sox saw 2 more wins. The Jays are now 3 games ahead of the Red Sox for first in the division and have won 6 of the last 7 games.
In game 1, Toronto won 6-1. Michael Bourn had a 3-run homer in this one with Bautista adding a solo shot and Cashner pitched a 7 inning shutout.
In game 2, Toronto were up 3-0 due to a Zack Walters 3-run homer. Boston battled back against Brett Cecil who allowed 3 of Estrada's runners to score off of a Big Papi bases clearing double. In the 7th, Travis Shaw would hit a triple and would later score on a sac fly to take the 4-3 lead. Craig Kimbrel came in for the 8th and Michael Bourn reached on a lead off double. Tulo moved him to third on a ground out, Bautista popped up and then Encarnacion came up and hit a game tying RBI single, 4-4. JA Happ would pitch 2 great innings to give Toronto a chance to win in the bottom of the 10th. Tulo doubled, Bautista grounded out, pinch hitter Ike Davis popped out and Dan Vogelbach came to the plate. He smacked a single up the middle to walk off in the 10th. Ball game, 5-4 Toronto.
After the game, the Jays designated Ike Davis and Jose Fernandez for assignment. Davis was hitting well in AAA but struggled to make contact in the majors with a .119 average. Fernandez was in the same boat and couldn't get around to major league batters despite multiple chances through the year. He hit .062.
In corresponding moves, the Jays added utility player Andres Blanco and 1B/RF Alex Dickerson to the 40 man roster and purchased their contracts from AAA.
Blanco was claimed by Toronto early in the year and served as the backup Infielder for a month or so hitting .242 as a switch hitter. He was waived and sent to AAA where he played well.
Alex Dickerson was also a waiver claim early in the year. He started in AAA where he hit .297 with 15 homers. His contact and power both improved to a respectable number against righties and is expected to platoon only against righties for the next couple weeks so Toronto can have a look at him. He played in the AAA playoffs where he hit .275 in the first round loss.
The Jays are hoping to find spot starts for Clinton Hollon and Chi Chi Gonzalez in the next 2 weeks. Management wants to see how they manage a big league start after impressing out of the bullpen. Both could be options next season.
Stay tuned!

After the blue chips are gone, you're left to people you fully scouted. This is a complete crap shoot. You need to hope that some guys you fully scouted are in your draft pool and available and they are decent.
If you see the past few days of posts you'll see that I completely lucked out in the draft. I took two very solid prospects with my first two picks. In all honesty is was luck. If you're outside of the Top 10 in the draft order you're likely going to be picking blind. Past round 1 you're definitely picking blind unless you're lucky and the guys you scouted just happen to be there for you.
I don't have enough experience to give real advice, but what did work for me was taking guys who were unscouted but projected to be 80 rated prospects (aka elite). Will this work again? I have no idea.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread
I just threw a 14 hit shutout in my A's franchise against the Giants. It was a regular 9 inning game. They just slapped singles everywhere. I only scored 1 run on 7 hits, so therewas 21 hits and only 1 run, 0 combined errors in 9 innings. You gotta love baseball.
There's the full game.Last edited by canes21; 05-18-2016, 08:06 AM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
