Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I figured 70 games in would be a good time to update on how my Detroit Tiger's franchise has been going. A little info first. I currently hit on ALL STAR, and pitch on LEGEND, with my own slider set. I used the original roster update, and created some of the Tiger's actual prospects, and some I created myself. I also created some prospects, both real, and fake, for the other teams in the league. I fired Brad Ausmus (just don't think he is a good manger) and hired “myself” as manager/gm. As I do every year, I also created one starting pitcher (Steve Lep) and one hitter, a super utility player, who has since settled in as the starting CF (Kyle Dutcher.) Nick Castellanos started the season on the D.L., and didn't return until April 29th. Cameron Maybin also started the season on the D.L. He returned May 7th.

In my signature, there is a link to google documents with the Full MLB Standings, and another link to my Detroit Tigers full stats. The Stats page also has stats for some of the prospects I created, at the bottom of the page.

I currently have a 50-20 record, tops in the majors. I have a 15.5 game lead in the A.L. Central, as the only team above .500. The White Sox are second with a 35-36 record. However, I am only 2 games better than the LA Dodgers (49-23) for the best record in the Majors. The Tigers lead the league with a .301 average, and 407 runs scored. Second in home runs with 109 (Blue Jays, 115). Also lead the league in fielding percentage (.992, just 20 errors.) Detroit is 4th in the Major League with a 3.41 team ERA.

The Tigers started out on fire in April, going 20-4 for the month. May was another great month, going 20-8. However, June seems to have brought them back to earth, as they sit at just 10-8 for the month, including two stretches where they lost 4 of 6 games each time.

The starting rotation has been outstanding. Justin Verlander (9-3, 2.84) Jordan Zimmerman (9-0, 2.20), and rookie lefty Steve Lep (9-1, 2.39, 117 strikeouts in 94 innings) Have been awesome. Anibal Sanchez (6-5, 3.59) has been really good at times, and shelled at others. Only Mike Pelfrey (3-5, 5.42) has really struggled. His spot in the rotation is one that the Tigers are definitely looking to upgrade as the trade deadline nears.

The Bullpen was great early in the season, but has come back to earth lately, attributing to the June swoon. Francisco Rodriguez (2-1, 3.91, 18 saves) converted his first 16 save chances, but has since blown 3 of his last 5 opportunities. His hold on the closer's spot is tenuous at best.

Offensively, the MVP has to be rookie CF Kyle Dutcher (.386, 23HR, 60 RBI.) He has played all over the field, starting games at third base, shortstop, and the outfield. He has settled in as the main option in Center. Dutcher has also hit in several spots in the lineup, but has settled in at the 2 hole. His speed at the top of the lineup has set the table for the big boppers behind him. Miguel Cabrera (.312, 16, 64), J. D. Martinez (.287, 21, 50), and Justin Upton (.264, 14, 51) have been raking all year. Victor Martinez (.272, 12, 36) struggled early, but has started to hit better in June. Since coming off the DL, Nick Castellanos (.322, 6. 23) has been awesome as well. The other surprise of the year has been Jose Iglesias, who has hit .333, though with no power.

The Tigers had the 9th pick in the June Amateur Draft, and may have come away with the best MLB ready player. They drafted SS Martin Warden, a 94 potential, 74 overall talent. He is 22 years old, and is a switch hitter. He projects to be a little better hitter from the right side of the plate, and has a good arm, and decent range in the field. Despite not having a second or third round pick, the Tigers still did pretty well, nabbing 19 year old SP Orlando Diaz (B potential) in the 4th round, and 19 year old reliever Jimmy Lopez (B potential) in the 5th round. They also got flamethrower Bobby Ventura (RP, C Potential) in the 6th round. All in all, it was a great draft.

As I said above, there is a link to the full standings, and full stats in my signature. Be sure to check it out.

      <table><td bgcolor=#004684>Off Season & Spring Training - 2017</td></table>

Off season and Spring Training are over. I probably spent more time on this ST than I ever have before. That happens when you have 9 guys for 5 starting spots. More on that later though.

We resigned both Luke Hochevar and Kendrys Morales (Our only free agents). Hoch got a 3 year deal worth 21 million. Morales got 3 years worth 26 million with a club option on the last year. We reached deals with Herrera 1 Yr/4.6M, Hosmer 1/8.5M, Dyson 1/2.6M, Duffy 1/4.2M and Dillon Gee 1/1.2M. We won an arbitration case with Tim Collins for 1.45M. We weren't very active in FA at all. Only guy we signed was Daniel Hudson to a 2 year deal for 7.3M. Last year with Arizona he was 4-7 with a 2.83 ERA in 76.1 IP.

Biggest deal of the off season went to Stephen Strasburg. Staying in the NL East but moving down to Atlanta with a 6 year 136 million dollar deal. In 2015 he was 16-10 with a 2.95 ERA in 210.2 IP.

      Some other notable signings.
      Spoiler

Going into the spring the main thing was sorting through all the possible starters and try to get 5 guys. Everyone got 3-4 starts and 8-10 games total. After the way Ventura pitched the last half of 2016 he was guaranteed a spot. Kris Medlen was removed from the options pretty fast. Ended up with a 6.00 ERA in 15 IP. Small sample but wasnt much time. Mike Minor ended up winning the opening day job posting a 1.00 ERA in 18 IP. Ian Kennedy and Dillon Gee won the next 2 spots with a 2.50 and 2.00 ERA both in 18 innings. Zimmer, Volquez, Vargas and Duffy were left fighting for the 5th spot. Ended up going with Volquez. His ERA was the worst of the 4 at 4.95. But he pitched more than all of them and allowed less base runners than they did. That also allowed us to put Duffy in the pen as our only lefty (Tim Collins was optioned to AAA as he recovers from his 2015 TJ surgey). Jason Vargas will be the long reliever. And Zimmer was optioned back to AAA. We also traded Chris Young to the Cubs to get down to 25 players.

As for position players not a whole lot going on there. We needed to see who was gonna start in RF and be the 4th OF. Our 2nd round pick Jackson Yates was added to the 40 man. Can play a lot of spots so we really just wanted to see what he had in him while also giving him the chance to battle for the backup catcher job mainly as the only other guy on the 40 man roster is Tony Cruz. Jarrod Dyson ended up winning the starting RF job. He hit .268 in 56 at bats with 4 doubles and 2 triples. for the 4th spot there was a few guys fighting for it. Jose Martinez hit .222 in 18 at bats before we took him out of the running. He hit .350 in 377 at bats in the minors last year. So hopefully he can continue that this year and maybe help us out later. Reymond Fuentes hit .238 in 42 at bats. He was the most likely to get he spot after playing 109 games for us last year. Didnt work out though he is back in the minors for now. Paulo Orlando and Jorge Bonifacio were the last 2 guys. Both played really well. Bonifacio hit .273 in 44 at bats. But Orlando ended up winning it hitting .297 with 2 HR in 37 at bats. Jackson Yates ended up hitting .295/.368/.377 in 61 at bats. Decided to give him a little time in the minors. Dont have much faith in Tony Cruz at all so If anything happens to Salvy Yates will get the call up. Bubba starling was off to a nice start hitting .273 in 22 at bats with HR. Ended up breaking his arm so that out an end to his spring. He will go to the minors when he comes off the DL. Omar Infante got hurt in the same game as Bubba. Was only hitting .200 so was pretty much set as the back up to Christian Colon at 2B. He should be back a week or two into the season. So hopefully nothing happens to Colon or Escobar until then cause we have no backups that can play up the middle right now.

So going into the season this is what the organization looks like.
      Spoiler

I'll be looking to trade a starter as the season goes. Not sure who exactly but would be between Volquez, Vargas and Medlen. Wont happen for at least a month or so. We open up the season in Toronto (The World Series Champs) for 3 games then on to Detroit for 3 before we get our home opener against the Twins.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I'm into July in a Yankees franchise. We're a miserable 34-50, last in the AL East by 13 games. The only guys that make sense to trade are Beltran, who is tearing it up, Shreve and probably Chapman. A-Rod is having a great season and he is 3 HRs away from 714. Tex and McCann are really struggling, as both are hitting around .210. Eovaldi missed the first two months with an injury, came back to make three starts, and now will miss two more months with an injury. Miller has an ERA over 5.00. Overall, a bad season, so I'll probably fire Girardi and tear the team down in the offseason. Ellsbury just went down with a 2-3 month injury so I can't trade him right now. (It'd be hard to do so with his massive contract.) Gardner is hitting about .250, which isn't awful but it's not great enough to trade for decent prospects.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Sorry for the delay, I was on holiday! The first three games of the seven game series have been completed with the Blue Jays leading 2-1.

Game 1 saw the Jays get shut down by Cole Hamels. He went 7 innings of 2 run ball in the win to open the series. Andrew Cashner pitched well despite fatigue going 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7. The Jays opened the scoring in the 2nd when Andrew Susac's RBI single scored Tulo, 1-0 Jays. Mitch Moreland would answer in the 4th with a 2-run HR to make it 2-1 Texas. It was like that until the bottom of the 8th when Josh Donaldson came through with a RBI single to score pinch runner Michael Bourn. Osuna would pitch the 9th, allowing a solo HR to Odor, which would end up to be the winner and left a sour taste in the mouth of Toronto fans.

In game 2, Texas got off to the 1-0 lead with a SacFly by Odor. The Jays answered in the 4th with an RBI single by Dan Vogelbach. Next inning, Danilo DeShields would come through with an RBI single to make it 2-1 Rangers. The Jays would answer back though when Russell Martin drove an RBI single to right field to make it 2-2. In the 7th, The Jays would open up the lead with a rally that ended with a Donaldson RBI double, and Bautista an RBI single, 4-2 Toronto. Storen would shut the door in the 9th for the save. AJ Griffin took the loss going 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits. Aaron Sanchez got the win with a 7 inning beauty allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5.

Game 3 saw the Jays bats finally come to life. They pummelled Texas 9-3 behind a 4-RBI game from Donaldson who also hit a home run in this one. Bautista had an RBI double which scored 2 and Tulo, Encarnacion and Travis all had RBI singles. Drew Hutchinson got the start to allow the top 4 to receive an extra day off and he went 5 innings allowing 1 run on 8 hits while striking out 7. Cliff Lee, who was signed after the All Star break, was torched for 7 runs in 4.2 innings.

Next up, game 4 will see Marco Estrada take the mound for Toronto against another lefty Martin Perez for Texas. Toronto has mashed LHP all season and playoffs so they will look to continue the strong play from their right handed power bats. Edwin Encarnacion is having a brutal playoffs. He is hitting .129 (4/31) with no homers and 2 RBI. He has also struck out 8 times in those 31 at bats. If he continues to struggle, it might make the GM's decision on what to do with him easy. However, he hit 40 homers this year and was a key part for Toronto so some hard decisions are upcoming.

However, on to game 4! Stay Tuned!

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Blue Jays are off to the World Series for the first time since 1993! They took game two and three to seal the 4-1 series win against Texas. Texas has now been eliminated by Toronto in each of the last two seasons. It was also appropriate the Jose Bautista put the nail in the coffin in game 5. The Mets have defeated the Cubs 4-3 to advance to the World Series against Toronto.

Game 4 saw the Jays win 4-2. Marco Estrada went 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6. Perez went 5 innings in the loss allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. An RBI double by Chirinos and an RBI single by Moreland would be all that Texas could get off Toronto pitching. Meanwhile, RBI singles by Donaldson, Martin and Encarnacion would put Toronto up 3-2 with a 3 run 6th. Bautista would deliver a RBI double in the 7th to seal it. In Game 5, Bautista delivered a 2-run HR, Donaldson a RBI single and Michael Bourn a sacrifice fly to lead the Jays to a 4-1 win. A fatigued Stroman went 5 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 run (Andrus RBI double), while striking out 3. Black, Cecil, Chi Chi, Osuna and Storen would lock down the 2nd half of the game to seal the Jays World Series ticket.

Stay Tuned for the Mets series where the Jays aim for a World Series!

Hey man sounds like your franchise is going almost identical to my Cubs franchise. I'm just a few weeks behind you, but had the same record in April and 1 game difference in May. That rookie CF you have sounds like a beast and you had some damn good draft picks. Good luck the rest of the way.

McCann + Chapman for Gallo if the Rangers are contending I can see them possibly doing this as Beltre is blocking Gallo at third base. Gives them the catcher they need with back end bullpen help.

Gardner for Spencer Adams this gives the white soxs an upgrade I've the milk man and the Yankees get a young prospect in return

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Not that it's a big surprise, but the Cubs are unbelievable in this game. Like its almost not fair. I've been fortunate to have very few injuries and a lot of my team has been hot/on fire for a good portion of the season so far(56 games in). I'd say if anyone wants a very good shot at winning the WS year 1 to go ahead and try a Cubs Franchise. I realize there is still a long way to go and anything can happen, but these guys are like an unstoppable freight train at 43-13. The team is hitting the ball out of the park at a ridiculous rate and Rizzo is on pace for some serious all-time records if he stays healthy(and he has a 98 in durability and played 460 games the past three seasons).

That being said I want your guys opinion. I would like to do a secondary franchise, with a weaker team that will be more of a challenge. My main focus for now will be taking the Cubs to the WS, but I would like to try another team out to challenge myself a bit more. Open to suggestions. I don't want to start from the absolute bottom, AKA the Braves lol, but I would like maybe a middle of the road squad. Anyone in the middle of a challenging franchise right now?

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I'm looking to start a new franchise. Ideally I am looking for a team who has a shot at playoffs and a world series run in year one, but will be facing some rebuilding or re-tooling in the offseason so then I can really make the team my own.

The best I can think of is the Jays with Edwin, Bautista and Dickey being free agents at seasons end but they'd still be very good in 2017 with Donaldson, Martin, Tulo etc... and I'm hoping for more of a project.

                      Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am officially caught up with the real season. I'm on the fail end of a home stand. After getting swept by the Brewers, we ended up sweeping the Marlins. We held Stanton to 1 bit the entire series and the last game of the series Freddie Freeman hit for the cycle. Up next the Giants. We are currently 17-33.

The best I can think of is the Jays with Edwin, Bautista and Dickey being free agents at seasons end but they'd still be very good in 2017 with Donaldson, Martin, Tulo etc... and I'm hoping for more of a project.

                          Any suggestions? Thanks!
Right now in my chise with the Rays in sitting at 68-57 at the ending of August 4.5 games out of first place. So I got a decent shot at making the playoffs is everyone keeps firing on all cylinders like they have been. The lead was up to 10 games and I've been chopping at it since before the All-star break.

** I did make a few trades at the deadline to help me make a push. I went and traded Jake Odorizzi + Danny Farquhar to the Cubs for Jorge Soler + Dan Vogelbach + Jacob Hannemann, 2nd trade I sent prospect Chih-Wei Hu to the Reds for Tony Cingrani and to round out the deadline Steve Pearce got sent to the Indians for T.J. House. Got help with these trades from the guys over in the trade discussion thread.

**I picked the Rays because they give you the chance to make the playoffs in the AL East but you have to fight for it not something that's gonna be handed to you which makes it run and you can rebuild with them as well With the financial budget they carry you have to find good help cheap and that's fun.

The Houston Astros win their first world series in franchise history! They beat the Mets in 4 games. I wrote up a big thing but Im just going to get to the point with this one.

Game 4 was a very dramatic ending as Ken Giles came in to get the last 3 outs in Minute Maid Park. The score was 4-2. Giles got a ground ball to start the inning then a walk then a base hit. With runners on second and 3rd Giles got a strike out for out 2. Neil Walker up to bat with a chance to give the Mets the lead or at least tie with the last out of the World Series. He grounds out and the Astros are world champions.

I knew going into this my pitching had to be dominant going against a team with such good pitchers as the Mets. They were just that where the Mets pitching staff just didnt show up. If the pitching was good for the Mets they could have taken us to 6 games easily as 2 of the games were small deficits. None the less our pitchers held the Mets to only 8 runs in 4 games.

Evan Gattis wins the post season MVP with a .391 BA 4 HR and 10 RBI.
George Springer is the World Series MVP with a .500 BA 1 HR and 5 RBI's.

This postseason was such a fun experience strategizing how to handle different teams and batters. I cant wait to get into next season.

Anyways my plans for the off season:

                            Bring back for sure:
                            Gomez
                            Fister
                            Rasmus
                            Neshek

Maybe Castro if he is cheap.

                            Let go:

                            Valbuena
                            Feldman

I will not be giving out any other extensions but Keuchel and Altuve will likely get extensions next off season as Keuchel will be in his last year of arbitration and Altuve will be a FA.

Anyways ill post an update after the off season.

                              Boeve Does It Again
17 K's to Lead Marlins Back to Even

If Damian Boeve hadn't convinced the Marlins to get ready to pay big bucks...this performance will do it for sure.

In a key game the Marlins needed, Boeve gave up a home run, then proceeded to strike out 11 of the next 12 men he faced, including a staggering 9 in a row at one point.

In all his final line was 8+ IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 17 K. The run is the first run he's given up in this postseason. One run in 26 innings of postseason work.

The Marlins scored 5 runs in support. It wasn't the best offensive day as the team grounded into four double plays, but it was plenty good enough.

The Marlins will hope to take the series momentum in the final game at Marlins Park and head to Camden Yards needing just one win to become World Champions.

Getting the ball will be Chris Tillman (2-0, 3.45) while the O's probable starter is Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0, 2.23).

                                Off Season Complete:

Was pretty fun doing my first off season a few hiccups I did run a few test runs over the past few weeks. I did screw up hiring coaches and have about 5-6M on the books for the next 3 years due to firing bad coaches so I may use some Stubs to buy enough budget to cover that if its a problem in the off season next year.

Got a few B rated prospects in free agency but I wont go over them for now.

                                Additions/Resigned:
                                Stephen Vogt
                                Pat Neshek
                                Doug Fister
                                Colby Rasmus
                                Carlos Gomez

                                Losses:
                                Luis Valbuena
                                Scott Feldman
                                J.D. Davis
                                Jason Castro
Few prospects non above a C.

                                Only trade I made:
Athletics IN: Jason Castro, J.D. Davis
                                Astros IN: Stephen Vogt

A's are looking to sell it seems as they did not value Vogt at all so I sent them Castro who is on a 2yr + Club Opt contract and J.D. Davis a high C prospect that tore up AA last year.

Castro is still young enough for him to develop and he is on a team friendly contract based on what he did last regular season.

Davis is a prospect, they wanted a 3rd base prospect and giving up one of my MLB ready ones made the meter fluctuate to their advantage more than I would like.

Castro is better defensively but he batted i think .098 in the playoffs (12 Games) and struggled towards the end of the year.

Vogt gives me a another bat and a decent defender. Also saves a little bit of money as he has a smaller contract than Castro. I did sign a defensive specialist for Catcher as a backup.

Let me know what you guys think of this trade and if I should send them an extra prospect.

Other than that it was a quiet off season for the Astros, as it should be when you win a championship.

                                Notable Signings:
                                Kendrys Morales - Cardinals
                                Stephen Strasburg - Rangers
                                Kenley Jansen - Yankees
                                Jeremy Hellickson - Nationals
                                Alcides Escobar - White Sox
                                Jose Bautista - Royals
                                Jake Peavy - Dodgers

Really not going to be any position battles in Spring Training other than bench spots.

Actually I lied 1st base and 3rd base are going to be position battles.

                                1st Base:
                                Tyler White 74 Overall
                                A.J. Reed 75 Overall
                                Jon Singleton 70 Overall

                                3rd Base:
                                Matt Duffy 72 Overall
                                Alex Bregman 72 Overall
                                Colin Moran 71 Overall

I think Reed or White will win 1st and Bregman or Moran will win 3rd.

I just cant see Bregman not winning 3rd considering he is the #1 prospect in the organization and is MLB ready I think this year.

Reed will likely get 1st Base if he can continue his success from last year.

Whoever doesnt win will be on the block and will likely get traded (I will keep 1 of each position as a backup).

Also something I feel a little bad about but when I was signing White, Reed, Bregman etc. I didnt want to promise them a platoon or everyday position so I just gave them all depth roles and now their overall goes up by like 4 if they are everyday players.
