Rookie Yaeger Holds on to Boeve's Win

Marlins had a tough game to start the season. Glasnow was dominating through 6 1/3 innings before the Marlins finally broke through. Glasnow's pitch count was high and that finally paid off with a 3-run outburst against Glasnow and his bullpen.

"We stuck to our approach and it worked out eventually. It was tough, he [Glasnow] was dealing strikes all game, but if nothing else, we made it cost pitches to get us out, " Yelich spoke.

The Marlins would get a fourth run after adding an insurance run in the 8th.

That run would be needed as Yaeger, the Marlins rookie closer, surrendered a run on a Wil Myers RBI double in the 9th. Yaeger would settle down and pick up his first career save.

Boeve was his usual self, though he gave up a solo HR in the 6th to Meadows. That left him behind 2-0 at the time. In all, Boeve struck out 14 in 8 innings of work, allowing 2 runs on just 2 hits and a walk.

Bo Winter's 12-game hit streak ended as he went 0-for-2 with a walk. Baez picked up two hits and Davis had the big at-bat of the game, driving in two on a double in the 7th to tie the game.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Astros won their Opening Day game against the New York Yankee's 4-2! Dallas Keuchel had a great start to kick off the season, pitching 7 innings, 2 earned runs 7 K's.

Colby Rasmus, Jake Marisnick, and Luis Valbuena had multi hit games, Marisnick went 2-2 after he came in following Carlos Gomez's injury (Will touch on shortly).

We racked up 12 hits, we had 10 when the score was 2-2 we just couldnt bring in runners.

Ken Giles got the save taking down the 3,4,5 hitters with no problem.

Now Carlos Gomez got hurt sliding into 1st after a pickoff attempt (wtf?) and strained his ACL. He will be out 2-3 weeks and has been placed on the 15 day DL.

Tony Kemp has been called up, very early to call up a prospect with no MLB experience but he is probably the best guy to bring up, especially the best that can play the OF.

Dont know how many AB's he will get but I will try to get him a few.

        -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 2 came to a very dramatic ending as it was a 2-1 ballgame going into the 9th inning we were able to get in 2 more runs to make it a 4-1 game. I had Neshek in at this point and he had been in since the 7th inning, I wanted to let him finish out the game and give Giles the night off.

Well 3 and 4 go down quietly then comes in Carlos Beltran. Solo shot to right field, I figure okay well we still have a 2 run cushion and only need 1 out, Neshek is tired at this point but I really dont want to bring Giles in for 1 out.

So McCann up to bat, no doubt home run to he second deck in right field. Now 4-3. Needles to say Giles came in and got the Teixeira out in 5 pitches. None the less wanted to give him the night off.

Was a pitchers duel almost the whole way. McHugh went 6 innings and had 1 earned run.

Altuve racked up 3 hits, a walk and an RBI along with 2 stolen bases. Great game for him. Castro also racked up 2 hits and 2 RBI's, the second one which was easily the biggest hit of the game drove in run 3&4 to give us a 3 run lead.

We have won the series but will look to sweep in Game 3.

        -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 3 was very exciting to play it was a pitchers duel without. We were held without a hit until the 5th inning when Jason Castro hit a solo shot to give us a 1-0 lead, the first homer for the Astros this season. Than Evolodi would stay in the game until the 8th when after 1 hit (Only the 2nd of the game for us) had the manager pull him.

We were held scoreless, then in the bottom of the 8th Brian McCann hit a bomb to tie the game up 1-1, Mike Fiers was still in the game working in his 8th inning, he was absolutely spectacular in this game, other than the homer of course. He racked up 8 K's and 1 ER.

Well we are unable to get anything going in the top of 9th and we are at this point I think sitting on 3 hits in the ballgame.

We hold the Yankee's to nothing for the 9th and 10th inning, they did the same to us.

Then in the 11th Carlos Correa decided it was time to go home (Well technically to Milwaukee) and hit a no doubt bomb to left center to give us a 2-1 lead in the 11th. Rasmus then got in with a base hit and Matt Duffy who was in after putting in a pinch runner for Valbuena in the 9th I think (Was Tony Kemp) hits a gapper that scored Rasmus to give a 3-1 lead.

Now Preston Tucker up to bat and he hits a gapper as well, I hold Duffy at 3rd not wanting to risk it. So men on 2nd and 3rd 1 out. I decide im not content with this 2 run lead after last nights late game magic by the Yankee's. So Jake Marisnick lays down a PERFECT sacrifice squeeze and we take a 4-1 lead. Marwin Gonzalez grounds out.

Now Giles in for another save opportunity McCann strikes out on a slider inside. Teixeira flys out to deep center. Starlin Castro then hits single into right. So there is hope for the Yank's but Gregorius goes down swinging. Game.

This game was big for Correa he was able to get 2 hits and his first homer of the season, he has been ice cold in the first 2 games of the season. So he is hopefully getting hot now.

So in 3 games we are 3-0 and Giles has 2 saves pretty good start to me. Off to Milwaukee

          Astros @ Brewers

          Game 1
Boy Game 1 was very very very interesting. I havent had a game like this before, but they do happen and that is part of the fun for me in doing a full season, seeing things I wouldnt usually see.

So, in the first inning Altuve got on base as did Springer. Rasmus hit a line drive into center that brought in both of them to give us a 2-0 lead. The in the bottom of the 1st the Brewers come out firing as Scooter Gennett gets on with a lead off single. Then Jonathan Lucroy comes in and hits a blast to left tying it up at 2-2.

Was very quiet until the 4th but Feldman (My Starter) was racking up the pitches fast and it was looking like it would be a short outing for him. Top of the 4th and Rasmus leads off the inning to a blast to right his first of the season, 3-2.

Now Preston Tucker up to bat getting the start due to Gomez being hurt, he hits a home run to dead center field, I mean DEAD center field. 4-2

Now top 6, Valbuena gets on with a single to right. Preston Tucker back up to bat 1-2 on the day with a home run. So what does he do? Hits a 2 run shot to dead center field and I mean DEAD center. Exact same spot as before he now has 2 home runs in the game.

Now Jason Castro up to bat 2 outs and he hits a shot to right to give us a 7-2 lead. Chris Carter does what he does best (And really all he can do) and hits a bomb of his own to center field and makes it 7-3.

Now top of the 7th. Springer gets on base with a single, Correa gets on base with a single. Passed ball Springer and Correa advance Rasmus walked bases loaded. Valbuena lined to right for a single that brought in Springer and Correa.

Now Tucker up to bat and he grounds to right field for a single that brings home Rasmus. Marwin Gonzalez hits a sac fly. If you have been keeping upt it now 11-3. At this point I really wished Feldmaan could go the distance to give the bullpen the night off but he was over 100 pitches already so Will Harris gets his first appearance of the season but only goes 1 inning as I didnt want to tire him out.

Michael Feliz in now to finish off the game he pitched a dime throughout the rest. Anyways top 9. Correa got another base hit and Rasmus doubled so runners on 2nd and 3rd now. Duffy got to 1st on an error bases loaded once again. Tucker walks home a run, bases still loaded. White hits a sac fly and Rasmus scores and we mercifully hit a few ground balls and end it 13-3.

Tony Kemp and Tyler White did get their first ever MLB AB's but neither one of them notched their first career hit but Tyler White did get his first RBI.

I didnt try to run the score up but instinct just kind of kicked in with the fly balls.

          So Astros top hitters:
          George Springer: 2-5
          Carlos Correa: 2-5
          Colby Rasmus: 3-4, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3 RBI
          Luis Valbuena: 2-4, 2 RBI
          Preston Tucker: 3-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Was a nice blowout to give the bullpen a night off which they definitely needed.

Well I decided to simulate ST and just jump to the regular season! Lost Dan Vogelbach for 3 weeks with a calf injury. Hamilton and Beltran will take over 1B duties with Paredes playing occasionally in the field as well.

It was a rough first series for the Jays pitching staff. In game 1 Stroman gave up 6 runs in 7 innings and Aaron Hicks walked off in the 10th with a 7-6 win. The Jays got home runs by Bautista and Martin in this one.

In game 2, the Jays got the good pitching when Sanchez went 7.1 innings Giving up only 2 hits in a 1-0 win. Tulo had the only RBI single in this one.

Game 3 was much like game 1. Estrada allowed 6 runs in 4.2 innings and Happ allowed another run. The only Jays run came from a Reddick RBI single in the 7-1 loss.

The Jays will take on Tampa Bay in the next series. The first 2 games will see Weaver and Chi Chi making their first starts of the season. Here is a look at the roster:

            CF Pagan
            3B Donaldson
            RF Bautista
            SS Tulo
            LF Reddick
            1B Hamilton
            DH Parades
            C Martin
            2B Walters

            Bench:
            Beltran
            Pillar
            Suarez
            Susac

            Rotation:
            Stroman
            Sanchez
            Estrada
            Weaver
            Gonzalez

            Bullpen:
            Storen (closer)
            Osuna
            Doolittle
            Vincent
            Grilli
            Black
            Happ

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Has anyone played a player out of position? Will it automatically add the position to his secondary positions if he plays there long enough?
Player is Ramirez. His primary is 2B. His secondary is LF, CF, RF. But in RL he also plays 3rd. I want him to primarily play 2nd, 3rd, and LF throughout the course of the season. Would it be easier to just edit him to be a LF and make his secondary position IF?

Yes it would. If you play all your games that's the way to go. However if you sim a load of games, be wary that his primary position remains wherever you want to see him most. If he's your starter at 2nd, & you change his primary to LF, he'll often get subbed out for whoever can play 2nd off your bench. & if you have a LF rated lower than him, it creates some confusion for the CPU. Starts throwing out all sorts of jumbled lineups. So keep an eye on that. But if you play your games then yes, that way you aren't met with any out of position penalty

I play every game. He is a utility bench player. So he will split time between LF, and 3rd mostly, with occasional time at 2nd. Cool, thanks for the response.

Been a rough 6 weeks. Thought we would get things going with so many home games but that didnt exactly happen. 16-20 sine June. We werent as good as I had hopped at home going 14-9. The road games really hurt us though. 2 and 11 with sweeps by Houston and Minnesota. As well as losing 3 of 4 at Seattle. Currently 4th in the division. 5 games behind Cleveland. The freaking Twins were 29-38 June 16th. 20 days later they were 48-38. 19 straight wins. It was ridiculous.

                    STANDINGS
                    Spoiler

Offense took a step back again. Gordon and Perez couldnt keep up their pace. Gordon is now hitting .256/.359/.377 with 6 HR. He is on pace for a career high in walks. Perez is hitting .252/.310/.398 with 9 HR. Moose has continued to play well. Hitting .291/.363/.478. Starting to hit for some more power. Up to 11 HR. Lorenzo Cain continues to be our best player overall. Hitting .310/.361/.471. Leads the team in WAR at 3.47. On pace for his best year ever. Eric Hosmer has started to get it together recently. Got his line up to .284/.364/.479. He looks to be on pace for his best year as well. We cut Omar Infante. Had to eat 5 million but we were spending that regardless and he just wasn't doing anything. Of course no one else is doing anything at 2nd. Colon is hitting .194/.260/.291. Jackson Yates has played some there. He still isnt doing much. Currently on the DL with a broken finger. He was hitting .193/.261/.318. Probably gonna trade for Brandon Phillips. He is hitting .281/.345/.377. Might look at an OF as well. Not sure who yet. If we come out of the break and lose like 10 games before the trade deadline we might end up being sellers. Cain, Moose and Hosmer are all playing extremely well right now. All in contract years currently wanting 14, 14 and 17 million per year. No way we can afford all of those. Moose might be the one we keep. Less expensive than Hosmer. Cain is already 30. Gonna have to see how things go.

                    Spoiler

Pitching got a bit better. Allowed only 3.8 runs per game compared to 4.5 in May. Mike Minor and Kris Medlen stepped up as our top pitchers these past 6 weeks. In 6 starts Minor went 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA in 37.2 IP. Bringing him to 8-2 with a 3.43 ERA in 107.2 IP. And Medlen was even better going 4-2 with a 2.18 ERA in 41.1 IP. On the season he is 5-4 with a a 3.74 ERA. Unfortunately in his last start he pulled a hammy. Will miss a couple weeks. Thankfully it was his last start before the AS break. So he may only miss 1 start. Yordano Ventura continues to be mediocre. He is 7-7 with a 4.17 ERA in 108 IP. Last 7 starts he is 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA. Last 6 starts he has a 3.54 ERA. Could be better. We kind of need it to. But we have seen him do worse. Ian Kennedy came back from his broken hand. In 7 starts since returning he is 2-1 with a 5.19 ERA in 34.2 IP. That ERA is a bit inflated thanks to hit last start where he gave up 6 runs in 4 innings. Without that his ERA is 4.70. Still not that great. He had 2 games back to back where he was only able to pitch into the 3rd thanks to minor injuries. Jason Vargas should be back pretty soon after the break. And we are signing Jake Peavy. He was 11-6 with a 3.14 ERA last season. Not sure why no one picked him up. But hopefully he can come in and help us out a bit. Since it worked so well last year im gonna go with the 9 man rotation this time to try and get a good set up 5 guys. Opening rotation out of the break will be Minor, Ventura, Peavy, Gee, Kennedy, Duffy, Volquez and then if they are ready Medlen and Vargas. If 5 of them cant play well then this season can go to hell.

We sent Zimmer back down to AAA he is 3-5 with a 2.86 ERA in 50.1 IP with a 0.99 WHIP. Luke Farrell is 4-4 with a 2.90 ERA in 80.2 IP. Cheslor Cuthbert is hitting .295 with 7 HR and 35 RBI in 295 AB (could be a piece in the Phillips trade). Hunter Dozier is hitting .273/.368/.318 in 66 AB since coming up from AA. And Brandon Downes is hitting .307/.368/.505 with 11 Hr in 309 AB.

In AA Bubba Starling is FINALLY producing. After being taken 5th overall in 2011. He has struggled quite a bit. But might have finally gotten things together. He is hitting .285/.344/.517 with 10 HR 12 SB and perfect defense in CF. Raul Mondesi is hitting .275/.339/.495. With Alcides Escobar's future unknown as he hits free agency this winter. He could end up as the starting SS for us next year. Chase Vallot is hitting .281.357/.422 with 7 HR. And Terrance Gore is hitting .289/.349/.440 with 27 SB and 2 CS. MArk Peterson has 13 SV and a 1.57 ERA in 46 IP. Malcom Culver has a 1.76 ERA in 56.1 IP. Miguel Almonte is 4-0 with a 2.20 ERA in 32.2 IP (5 starts)

Giancarlo Stanton won the HR derby at his home park. Hit 12 in the 1st round. 22 in the 2nd. 23 in the finals to send it to a swing off with Edwin Encarnacion. Then finished it off with 4 to win. Encarnacion had the most HR. Hit 20 in the 1st round (had a swing off with Goldschmidt as well), 28 in the 2nd. 23 in the finals. 3 in the swing off.

26 more road games between now and September with 19 home games. We have to figure things out soon. This is probably the last chance we have at a run here for the next few years. Here is a list of players that are going to be free agents this winter. Davis, Hosmer, Cain, Moose, Volquez, Escobar, Minor, Duffy, Medlen, Dyson and Gee. Maybe we can get a loan from Donald Trump or something.

Just finished up April in the first year of my Miami Marlins franchise. We are sitting in first place in the East with a 17-7 record, 2nd best in the majors behind the Cubs. We have a 2 games lead on the Nats and a 3 game lead on the Mets. We have played in a lot of tight games and fortunately finished on top in most. 9 games in April were decided by 1 run and 17 by 3 runs or less. My team has saved 10/13 opportunities (Capps 8/10 11.2 inn. 15 K 3.09 ERA, Ramos 2/2 8.1 inn. 11 K 1.08 ERA).

                      Team Avg: .297(2nd)

                      Home Runs: 34(T-2nd)

                      Team ERA: 2.89(2nd)
                      HR allowed: 16(T-1st)
                      Saves: 10(T-2nd)

                      Team MVPs for the month:
Stanton: .391 Avg., 12 HR, 35 RBI, .859 slug. Leads early MVP voting
Fernandez: 5 starts, 4-0, 38.2 inn, 39 K, 0.75 WHIP, 1.16 ERA(Blown Save in his no decision) Leads early Cy Young Voting.

                      Other notables:

Yelich: .402 Avg.(T-1st). Was batting ~.500 most of the month and actually slumped the last week.
                      Bour: .291 avg., 9 HR(T-3rd)
                      Gordon: .316 avg., 16 SB, 14 Runs
                      Ozuna: .289 avg., 5 HR

                      Backup players:
                      Ichiro: .346 Avg(needs 47 hits for 3000)
                      Dietrich: .267 avg., 5 HR, 9 RBI

                      Liriano- 3-1, 31.2 inn., 29 K, 1.33 WHIP, 3.13 ERA(had 12 k in 7.0 inn last start)
Cosart- 2-2 with a 7.28 ERA in danger of losing his spot in rotation. Rookie LH I brought up for a spot start pitched great for his first win and might pitch in Cosarts spot next time around.

Dunn- 9 games, 8.1 inn., 12 K, 0.84 WHIP, 0.00 ERA. Stud lefty out of the pen. My bullpen as a whole has been very good.

                        Astros @ Brewers Game 2
Game 2 was a lot more tightly contested than Game 1. I mean its not every day you score 13 runs. Tony Kemp got his first MLB start and he was out in Center Field starting so Springer could get a day off. Castro also got the day off and Max Stassi got the start (Erik Kratz was not in OSFM 3.5). Doug Fister was getting his first start of the season.

So after a 1-2-3 1st inning for the Stros Ryan Braun launched a bomb to left center to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. We answered his run with one of our own in the top of the 2nd to tie it up 1-1.

In the bottom of the 4th they were able to get a rally going but only brought in 1 run but gained the lead. In the top of the 5th we got back the run to tie it up. In the top of the 6th we had a rally of our own and got 2 runs to make it 4-2. In the top of the 8th we got 1 more run to make it 5-2.

The entire bullpen would like to write Doug Fister a formal thank you for giving them the day off. As he only allowed 4 hits 2 runs in 9 innings of work, great outing for Fister. Though Josh Fields was a little upset as he was stretching and tossing for 4 innings. Gregerson also warmed up just in case.

This puts our winning streak at 5 and gives us a 5-0 start to the season. I am considering making changes to sliders and settings but its not like its a huge surprise. Neither the Yankee's or Brewers are great teams IRL or in the game. The Astros in this game are very good (2nd highest overall). So I will keep it going, if the streak gets too crazy I will change settings but for now, baseball things happen in baseball.

Tony Kemp also got his first hit in the majors on a 1-4 performance.

                        Astros @ Brewers Game 3
Game 3 was more of the same to be honest. We jumped out to an early lead 4-0 with a few hits along with a Valbuena homer. Keuchel got the start and we had another great outing from him. In the top of the 3rd and 4th we got 1 more run in. In the 7th we got a run in and in the bottom of the 7th I took out Keuchel his pitch count was starting to get high and he just allowed a double. Just didnt want to risk anything.

Josh Fields got his first appearance of the season and allowed 1 hit but got us out of a runners on 2nd and 3rd jam. In the bottom of the 8th however he allowed back to back home runs to Ryan Braun and Chris Carter. I immediatly took him out and gave Feliz the ball. Feliz is just our mop up guy, comes in with a big lead or big deficit to perserve the bullpen.

Well bottom of the 9th Ramon Flores gets his first MLB home run and makes the score 7-3 but fortunately we get out of it with a final score of 7-3. Tyler White did get his first MLB hit.

Jose Altuve came close to hitting for the cycle only missing out on a home run.

Carlos Correa has definitely got his bat going and went 5-5 with 2 RBI's.

So we sweep the Brewers and are headed home for our home opener with a fresh bullpen against the Royals. 6-0

Marlins Start With a Sweep of Pirates

Game 1 was Boeve's outing on Opening Day (already covered).

Game 2 was Luis Heredia doing well, except for in the 6th he gave up a 2-run HR. Fortunately, the Marlins offense was doing it's think and gave him 5 runs in support. Rookie closer Kevin Yaeger picked up his 2nd save.

Game 3 was Clay Huff on his bad side. The lack of strikeouts is expected, but he gave up a whopping 10 hits in 6 innings of work. He was dancing through the rain drops until he gave up a pair of home runs, one in the 5th and one in the 7th, which chased him with 6+ IP, 10 H, 4 R.

The Marlins were holding on to a 5-4 lead at that point. Boone Hall got his first crack at things and he wasn't having a good time of it but got through the 7th. Mattingly turned to Omar Diaz, and he was lights out.

Marlins offense made it a non-issue as they put 5 more runs up against the Pirates bullpen to cruise to a 10-4 win.

The Marlins remain on the road to start the season, traveling to Atlanta next.

Just a few games into May now with my Marlins franchise, but wanted to give a quick update. The first game in May was the last game of a 10 game road trip vs the Brewers. Following up a loss in the 2nd game of the series we bounced back and crushed them 10-0 in the finale. It was a complete game shutout for Adam Conley(2-2 1.38 ERA). Yelich, Stanton and Dietrich homered.

Then we came back home to start a 9 game homestand. First up was the DBacks and it was a very good series. Game 1 was a pitchers duel. Stanton hit the first pitch he saw in the first inning for a mammoth 473 foot Homerun that just made it over that Monstrosity of a Marlin statue in Left Center field. That would be the only run until late in the game. Tom Koehler was dealing thru 8 scoreless innings. In the bottom of the 8th, Stanton came up again with the bases empty and deposited one 456 Feet to deep left! With the score 2-0 heading to the 9th, Koehler gave up a lead off 2B and the lineup was turning back over to the top. I decided to bring in Capps for the save. He gave up a single which plated the run, but he got out of the inning, striking out two in the process to pick up his 9th save.

Game 2 we had our Ace Fernandez on the mound. It was another pitchers duel, scoreless heading into the 6th. Fernandez hung a curve to Goldschmidt and he hit a bomb to left. Then he threw a FB to Peralta that he just got out over the RF fence. 2-0 DBacks. In the bottom of the 7th, JT Realmuto hit his first HR of the season with one man on and tied the game. Fernandez fought through 8 innings, striking out 8. The game would go to the 11th, when the DBacks would pick up a run of AJ Ramos on a wild pitch. With 1 out in the bottom half, struggling Dee Gordon would drag bunt right passed the pitcher and beat it out. He stole second on the first pitch to Yelich and beat it out despite a pitch out. Yelich then hit a grounder up the middle that was knocked down, but that he beat out. 1st and third with one out. After a pitch out to Stanton on the first pitch with nothing doing, I got an injury alert saying Yelich was clutching his arm and had to come out. It didn't distract Giancarlo though as he took the next pitch deep to left for a no doubt about it walkoff 3-R HR(16 HR/41 RBI). After the game I would find out that Yelich will most likely be out 1-2 months with a fractured forearm. Still very odd that he was standing on first when they noticed.

Game 3 was another thriller. Our first game without Yelich(.385 Avg). Ichiro will take over his starting role and I picked up a 20 y/o rookie Free agent named Stefan Quintana to fill the roster spot and backup my outfielders since I had multiple outfielders on the DL in the minors. This game went 11 innings as well. Ichiro had two hits including the first HR of the season for the 42 year old. Once again the DBacks scored a run in the top half of the 11th, making the score 4-3. Then with two outs and a runner on in the bottom half of the Inning, Marcell Ozuna hit a BOMB to left center for the second consecutive walkoff win in extra innings for the Marlins. It's amazing how many close wins wee have taken this early in the season. A lot of good pitching battles and clutch homers by the Marlins.

Since taking over the Dodgers, I've been wanting to rebuild the team around speed and defense to complement my world-class pitching staff and pitcher's park.

To that end, I look at Jarrod Dyson at the end of the first month. He was hitting .220 and in danger of losing his spot in the lineup, so I took a flier on him and sent a couple of prospects their way.

I'm blown away by how much his speed effects the game. I sent down Joc, who was struggling at the plate despite playing great defense, and placed Dyson at the top of the order.

In the second month of the season, he went from hitting .220 to hitting .255, and as my starter in CF, he's displayed incredible range.

He's 31, so he might not make it back next season, but I'm officially addicted to guys like this. He'll never hit above .270, but his ability to pressure the defense with the bunt, with the steal, and his ability to leg out an extra base on routine hits has already won me 2-3 games in the single month I've had him on the team.
