Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Well I have just come to the realization that we are the hottest team in baseball. Its not that the sliders are too easy or anything like that because I have tweaked and toyed with sliders a lot. I am not even that great of a player at The Show I am just simply getting lucky.

Bounces are going my way, pitches arent being located in the right spots for the opposing team. My guys are getting to the bloopers before they drop. I am sure this will all catch up to me eventually but I am chalking it up to a hot month of April.

We sit at 18-4 and are on a 7 game winning streak after sweeping the Red Sox and Mariners and are back up to a 4.5 game lead in the division. Game 3 was a blowout. I could tell early on that King Felix just was going to have a bad day, he couldnt locate his sinker and that lead to a lot of walks and a lot of good hitters counts.

Things got a little chippy late in the game after it was already over, Valbuena got plunked by the first pitch for Wade Miley after Felix had given up 6 runs in 3.2 innings.

So I decided to unsportsmanlike later on in the game and send a runner home after we already had like a 8 run lead when I could have just left them at 3rd. Later in the game after Benoit came after Gomez with two high and in fast balls near the head I launched a bomb over the left field fence making it a 13-3 game.

What can I say I get bored sometimes so I make up small storylines for myself lol. (Also Prince Fielder pretty much gets plunked every time I play the Rangers)

McHugh got the complete game which was big because our bullpen had been busy in game 1 & 2.

Some bad news though in Game 1 of the series Colby Rasmus broke his arm and is going to be out for 1-2 months. Tony Kemp got the callup because I think he is the most ready guy but he is just having a rough go of things in the majors. I may send him down and give Andrew Aplin a shot.

What a way to end the season. Worst record of all playoff teams. Just 1 game over .500 at the AS break. We had injuries to 2 of our best playesr in August. And pitching rotation that refused to figure things out for 5 months. 4 straight playoff appearances. 3 World Series in 4 years. 2 championships in 3 years. Most of the core will probably be gone. I try to play 1 sim 5. But it usually turns into a play 1 sim 7 or 8. So i can get a month done in a day or 2. A season in a week to week and a half. And then i play every playoff game.

2017 Phillies NLDS Update (Games 1,2)

Game 1 - After using Nola in the Wild Card game, I decided to go with the fire baller Velasquez in the first game of the NLDS. He was matching up against the NL MVP, Max Scherzer. I knew it would be a tough task facing Scherzer, but we stayed tied 0-0 until the 5th inning. Velasquez got in some trouble and gave up a grand slam to E. Aybar (of all people?!) in the bottom of the 5th. With the Nats up 4-0 and Scherzer dominating on the bump, I felt the game slipping away. We did get to him a bit and put up 3 runs in the later innings but the Nats got the opening game victory with a score of 6-3.
My bright spot was M. Franco. His bat has heated up the last few games and he has become the run producer we long strived for during the regular season. He had 2 home runs and knocked in all 3 of our runs in the game. Hopefully he stays hot. On to facing Strasburg in Game 2.

Game 2 - Normally Eickhoff would be next man up in the rotation but I decided to go with Hellickson vs. Strasburg for Game 2. It paid off, as he stepped up and pitched 7 great scoreless innings until being pinch hit for in the 8th. Franco, Vogt, and Ruf had 2 RBI each and Espinosa had a RBI to help give us a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the 8th. With the huge lead, Neris comes in and gives up a few hits. Harper, who we have held in check most of the year, then comes up and blast a 3 run dinger to make things interesting. They add on 3 more runs to really make me squirm but Nick Williams 9th inning solo blast gave Storen enough cushion to come on and get the save. We take game 2 with a score of 8-6. Series shifts to Philly with a Game 3 slate of Roark vs. Eickhoff. Gonna be an entertaining series!

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins made some waves by putting some excellent talent on the trading block.

Slugging 3B Stan Brito was formally announced as being "available" by the team. Speculation is that it's the pending arbitration status that has the team considering a move.

Brito, 24, has tremendous power, perhaps in the top 5 in the league in terms of raw explosiveness. He can also steal some bases and plays strong, if at times erratic, defense. The question mark is his ability to be consistent - in all phases of the game. When he's on, he looks amazing.

"They have their young stable of starting pitchers coming up and this has always been a pitching-first team. So Brito might get moved, and that's a move the team could absorb relatively easily in terms of resetting the lineup, " a local sportswriter commented.

Indeed, Baez could move to 3B and the middle infield can return to being Taylor-Campos.

The other name that was more surprising was Luis Heredia, the blossoming #2 starter that might be a borderline ace on another club.

Many thought that Heredia would be Boeve's right-hand man atop the rotation. However, the team loves Clay Huff as well and Moses Bartlett is also a favorite - and both are entering the "pay me" phase of their careers. Huff will be an outright FA the year after next while Bartlett has a couple more years going forward of team control, albeit under arbitration.

The Marlins have a bit of a "backlog" of pitching prospects - though some of them, like Bullock, haven't impressed so far. Still, between Bullock, Kolek, Mota, Ordonez, who will make his debut next, Mader and Valdez, the Marlins figure to have at least one, maybe two, average-at-least arms in the making or ready to go. The Marlins may be thinking Boeve, Bartlett, Huff and two of those others will do fine for a rotation.

This is not counting what might come back should Brito and/or Heredia indeed move. The Marlins will certainly not either cheaply, especially Heredia.

The Marlins are looking for catcher prospects, middle infield prospects, and, of course, to keep the SP mill going, likely as an "add-on" to a deal involving the other resources as main pieces.

Also joining the Marlins trade block is a pair of 1B. Chet Doyle, who may well be a very solid, if lacking in defense, player, and Freddie Aquino, a speed/power type player, but his ability to hit for average and play acceptable defense are big question marks. Both could be attractive to AL teams looking to bolster their DH situation.

This could be a signal to Russell Parrott that he is the heir-apparent to Chris Davis at the position.

Other big names have hit the trading block as well. Phillies are shopping a slugging 3B of their own in Mikael Franco, likely looking to shed his $22 million-and-rising salary. The Yankees are shopping well-rounded Blake Swihart. Veteran Jose Abreu still has a big bat, and the Pirates are hoping someone takes him on as a rental as they may not be planning to extend him this offseason.

The Marlins might want to rethink those ideas of trading Stan Brito.

He has another multi-hit game, this time including 2 more home runs to start the year.

He currently has 9 hits, 7 of them for extra bases...and 4 of those are home runs.

Either he's doing a fine job of auditioning for potential suitors...or he's making the Marlins think twice about what they want to do here.

Going into the off season I expected to lose a a couple guys at least. It wasnt as bad as i thought. Brandon Phillips retired so I didnt have to consider resigning him. Edinson Volquez was a free agent and i already knew i wasnt signing him. So that freed up a little money. In the end the only major piece we lost was Hosmer. And we knew that was gonna happen for sure. He was asking for 22.2 per year. We countered with 18 per for 7 years. And gave him a qualifying offer. He decided to sign with the Angels for 5 years and 118.3 million. He gets more money per year. And gets to sign another deal at 33. Cant blame him for leaving. He helped us get 2 rings.
                      • Mike Moustakas was asking for 14.6 per year. He agreed to a 6 year deal worth 84 million(14 per) and a player option. That is the highest total contract in Royals history.

                      • Lorenzo Cain wanted 14.2 per year. He signed a 4 year deal for 53.6 million(13.4) and a player option. I really didnt expect him to sign that.

                      • Wade Davis wanted 10.6 million we agreed to that and he signed a 5 year deal for 53 million. The next day Craig Kimbrel signed a 6 year 66 million dollar extension with the Red Sox. Davis has been by far the better player since 2014. So we got a good deal there.

                      • Mike Minor signed a 3 year 21.9 million dollar deal. He started at 8.2 per year and we got him down to 7.3.

                      • Alcides Escobar wanted 6.7 per year. We offered 4 years 22 million. Really didnt expect him to sign that. Felt comfortable offering him less since we have Mondesi.

                      • Jarrod Dyson signed on for 2 years and 4 million. Originally wanted 2.5 per year

                      • Kris Medlen for 10.5 million over 3 years. Originally wanted 3.5 per year.

                      • Danny Duffy for 13.5 million over 3 years. Originally wanted 4.8 per year.

Only move we made in free agency was pickign up Jordan Lyles for 2 years and 10 million dollars. We go into the season with a payroll of 136.6 million. He was 9-11 with a 3.77 ERA in Colorado last year.

                      Spoiler

As we headed into Spring Training there were a few more position battles than we had the last few years. Needed to decide who was gonna play 1st with Hoz gone. Who was gonn aplay 2nd with Phillips gone. And who was gonna play RF which we have been trying to figure out at this time of the season for a couple years. We also had a few spots in the rotation up for grabs. Minor and Ventura were the only guys that had a spot locked up going in.

Balbino Fuenmayor and Cheslor Cuthbert were the main guys battling for 1st. Colon, Mondesi and Ramon Torres battling for 2nd. And Dyson, Starling, Fuentes, Jose Martinez and Paulo Orlando battling for RF and 4th outfielder. Jackson Yates Cam Gallagher were competing for back up catcher. Or more like Gallagher fighting for a spot on the team since Yates was pretty much guaranteed a spot it just wasnt decided where yet.

We went with Balbino at 1st over Cuthbert. Cuthbert had the better spring. .300/.333/.340 compared to .278/.316/.33 for Balbino. But the reason we went with Balbino is so that Cuthbert could get every day bats and that wasnt gonna happen up here since we are going to have Yates play 1st against righties as neither Balbino or Cuthbert are very good against them.

None of the guys at 2nd really did that well. Torres hit .167/.246/.200. Colon .196/.241/.255 and Mondesi .210/.258/.323. Went with Mondesi since he was the best of the worst and has the best defense and base running.

Just like 2nd base no one fighting for the RF job really stepped up. Dyson hit .222/.271/.333, Starling hit .176/.276/.353, Fuentes hit .175/.242/.263, Orlando hit .225/.273/.325 and Martinez hit .232/.267/.339. So Jackson Yates will get the start in RF against lefties while Dyson starts against righties. So filling out the roster Cam Gallagher will be the backup catcher. Christian Colon the backup IF.

As for the starters every got about the same amount of innings in. And for the most part every did extremely well. We are gonna go with a 6 man rotation to start the season. Minor will start opening day. Followed by Ventura, Duffy, Zimmer, Lyles and Gee. Ian Kennedy will be the long reliever with Medlen moving to a middle relief role. Danny Duffy went 22 innings without allowing a run. Zimmer gave up 2 runs in 21 innings And Lyles and Gee gave up 3 runs in 17 innings each. Hopefully that can carry over to the regular season.

Do ball parks matter when it comes to numbers in game. As in if i have a game at Coors field will there be more Home Runs over the season because of the altitude?

A few parks have environment effects like Coors. I think there's others in the game.

Overall dimensions/features can matter significantly. Coors hits both. It gets the altitude effect modeled AND it's a spacious park for balls that stay in the field of play.

I am not sure, but wind really has an effect. Just played in Fenway park after having 4 low scoring games In a row. Wind was out to LF and rather strong according to the report before the game. With my right handed power I blasted 5 homers over the monster on like 7 hits in the game. Bautista hit that massive silver tower thing and would have put it in the parking lot otherwise. Encarnacion cleared the monster and Guerrero hit a fly ball that looked catchable and just never came down. Almost seemed like it got stuck In a vortex haha! Quite realistic!

The Blue Jays are now 8-4 on the year and are tied for first in the AL east. The Jays entered the Yankees series with a 4-3 record and got hammered in game 1 by a score of 14-2. The veteran players held a post game meeting to spark a fire under everyone. Game 2 and 3 were identical 2-1 wins for Toronto on walk offs. Game 2 by Tulo in the 10th and game 3 by Bautista in the 13th.

Next was the Red Sox for 4. In game 1 the Jays won 7-2 off of 5 homers by Encarnacion, Guerrero, Bautista, Donaldson and Tulo. They lost starter Marcus Stroman for 2-3 weeks after being hit by a line drive in the head. Gavin Floyd will take over as starter until Stroman gets back from the 15 day DL and Ernesto Frieri was called up to take his spot in the bullpen.

Game 2 saw the Jays win 7-1 again. Both wins came from Elias and Price. Both lefties really took it to Toronto in the opening series going 7 and 8 innings respectfully for wins. This time the Jays stayed patient and waited for mistakes and made them pay. In this one, Travis hit a solo HR and 2 run double to solidify the 7-1 win EE also had another homer and now has 5 on the year already.

Guerrero has taken over the starting LF position. He is batting .337 with 4 home runs in 10 games played.

Next up, games 2-3 vs the Red Sox

I have reached the All-Star break. We hold a 5 1/2 game lead on the Cubs. The Pirates are in 3rd, 11 games out of first, so it appears to be a two team race at this point.

I have placed Matt Carpenter, Matt Holliday, and Trevor Rosenthal into the All-Star game.

We are still on the fence about what to do with Kolten Wong, but I'm thinking about just hanging on to him for the rest of the season and then making a decision in the offseason. Wong proved to be valuable in my last game before the break as he hit the go ahead/game winning homerun against the Brewers in the 9th inning. Plus, his defense is superior to that of Holt. The other issue is that I have an up and coming third baseman, Patrick Wisdom, that may not be able to be held at Memphis next season. His glove is absolutely amazing and his speed is good for a 3rd baseman. Just need his bat to get better, but he is hitting .260 right now, which isn't great, but isn't terrible either. So if I bring him up, then Carpenter has to move to 2nd which leaves Wong out again.

                                Decisions, decisions.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
