    Coloroado Rockies 2017 June Update

Well, folks, the end of June has come, and it's safe to say it was another very successful month. We started the month behind in the race for the division (behind the Dodgers) and we ended the month with a 6 game lead in the division.

We finished 20-8 during the month (first time ever winning 20 games in one month) to get to an overall record of 54-28. It seems the Dodgers are starting to trend downward, while my Rockies are starting to trend upward.

Here are the overall standings as of July 1:

    Spoiler

In order to have a successful month like that, you have to have players that put it all together, and we certainly had that.

Here are the team stats as of July 1:

    Spoiler

Some key guys to keep an eye on:

    1) Nolan Arenado - Not only is Nolan the best player on the Rockies in 2017, he's the best player on the planet... If the season ended today, he would win the Triple Crown in the NL. He has a .337 avg, with 24 HRs and 65 RBIs (all tops of the NL) but he also has a completely ridiculous 1.052 OPS. The crowd says MVP every time he comes to the plate, and they are right. He is also the leading vote-getter for all of the National League players.

    2) German Marquez - And then there is the Cy Young Award. And this one is pretty much a 3 man race. For these Rockies, Marquez is right there in it (along with Bumgarner and Kenta Maeda). German leads the league with an outstanding 12-1 record. But he is also 2nd in the league with a 1.88 ERA (Bumgarner is ahead with an unbelievable 1.56 ERA). You would think Sonny Gray and Jon Gray would be the top of the staff at this point... but that definitely belongs to Marquez. Also, he is the 2nd highest vote-getter in the NL Starting Pitcher category. Bumgarner is currently ahead of him.

    3) Carlos Gonzalez - I don't think it's possible to have a better 3-4 punch than Arenado-Gonzalez. Arenado gets first crack at knocking the runners in (which he almost always delivers on), but Gonzalez gets to clean it up. He has a .309 avg, with 20 HRs (3rd in the NL) and 50 RBIs. If it weren't for Arenado, people would be amazed by the numbers CarGo is putting up (he actually has a better SLG% than Arenado). Unfortunately, CarGo ended up pulling his hamstring, so he will be out for several weeks (currently on the 15-day DL), but if he comes back the same as he went out... we'll be in great shape.

    4) Tom Murphy - At the beginning of June, I was desperately wishing we still had Nick Hundley behind the plate because my Catchers were leaving a lot to be desired, but then Tom Murphy went on a bit of a tear. He finished the month with a .253 average and 5 HRs with 23 RBIs. And he's a beast behind the plate. I laugh at people that try to steal on him.

    5) Tyler Anderson - In my May update, I mentioned that I was bringing Anderson up. I was hoping that he would be what I thought Jake Peavy was going to be. At this point, however, I think it's safe to say he has been that and a lot more. In his 5 starts this month, he had a 2.62 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and finished with a 3-0 record. Of those 5 starts, 4 of them fall under the Quality Start category. He's not just turning into the guy I was hoping for with Jake Peavy... he's beating out Sonny Gray.

It was a fun month, but the All-Star break is coming and when that passes us by, things will get really serious. If the first three months were any indication, however, then the Rockies are up to the task.

I simmed year one with the Mets and we won 92 games. Walker, Cespedes and Familia made the ASG. We won the Division and drew the Dodgers in the NLDS.

Wheeler returned and pitched to about a 4.5 ERA and then broke his hand in September. He'll miss the playoffs. Granderson tore his ACL in April.

I swung some fair trades; I landed the As' Danny Valencia, the Rockies' Mark Reynolds and the Braves' Kelly Johnson in addition to John Jaso of the Pirates.

We dominated game one in LA. Kershaw needed 25 pitches to escape the first after walking two, watching Turner make an error that scored a runner and giving up two hits. In all, Kershaw only lasted 3.1 innings ans gave up 6 runs. (5 earned.) Thor pitched 6 shutout innings of 2 hit baseball.

De Grom took game two but Harvey dropped game three in NY. Matz takes on Ryu in Queens in a potentially clinching game 4.

        <table><td bgcolor=#004684>End of Regular Season - 2018</td></table>

162 games and the 2nd best season in Royals history is in the books. We finish the season with 19-8 record in September to bring us to 101-61 overall. 1 game behind the team record of 102-60 set in 1977. And the best since the 1980 team. We tied the Cubs for the 2nd best record this season. Cardinals had the best at 103-59. We head into the playoffs with an 11 game win streak thanks to sweeps of Minnesota, Boston and Detroit. Im not sure how the hell we did so well this year. Lose one of our best hitters in Hosmer. Have basically the same combination of guys starting as the last few years. Thats baseball i guess.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I'm in the middle of August 2016 with my Colorado Rockies, playing about 9 games out of every 10 on All-star difficulty.

After at one point being two or three game below .500, we have put together a very nice run to win 8 games in a row to sit at 63-55.

The bats have exploded during August, scoring at least seven runs per game over this winning streak.

Carlos Gonzalez has 35 home runs and is in the top 10 in all the triple crown categories, batting .306.

Ben Paulsen, Nolan Arenado and Ryan Raburn have 20+ long balls, Raburn's total being even more impressive considering he has split duties in left field with Gerardo Parra.

The pitching, as we all know, is the most challenging aspect of playing baseball at Coors Field.

Francisco Liriano (who I got for Jose Reyes and some prospects at the start of the season) has 13 wins, only one win off the league leading mark. His 2.64 ERA is the best of our starting pitchers, and his best since his early years in Minnesota.

Jordan Lyles has posted his career best ERA so far, 3.76, and has been extremely consistent.

Here is the lineup, rotation and bench with rough stats (I'm on the way to work and only wrote a couple down!) (AVG/HR/RBI/SB)

          CF - Blackmon (270/6/33/18)
          2B - LeMahieu (278/2/40/22)
          RF - C. Gonzalez (306/35/88/6)
          3B - Arenado (270/23/68/2)
          1B - Paulsen (301/20/51/?)
          LF - Parra (288/8/30/?)
          SS - Story (267/15/45/5)
          C - Lucroy (254/4/31/?)

          Bench:

          M. Gonzalez (290/3/20/3)
          Raburn (286/21/46/?)
          Thole (189/1/9/?)
          Dahl (308/2/10/8)
          Singleton (270/12/27/1)

          Pitching: (W-L/ERA)

          Liriano (13-5, 2.64)
          Lyles (8-6, 3.76)
          S. Wright (9-7, 4.09)
          Cain (4-5, 4.13)
          Bettis (1-5, 3.86)

          Bullpen:

          Gray (4.11)
          Qualls (1.45)
          Brothers (5.01)
          Osuna (3.65)
          Motte (3.22)
          McGee (3.98)

Currently we are 8.5 games back from the Giants in second place. The Dodgers are running away with the NL West and the Giants have a firm grip on the wildcard unless we can continue to crush the ball in September.

Even if we don't make the playoffs it's likely I will satisfy my objective of finishing above .500 which was my main target.

            Cubs Franchise 2016

            Date: May 27th, 2016
            Record: 27-20
            April: 10-14
            May: 17-6

            Batting Summary:

Bats started off incredibly quiet in the month of April and most games were coming down to solo shots or late inning errors to win. While the first part of May seemed the same, we have absolutely taken OFF in the middle of May. Rizzo currently leads the pack hitting .306 with an NL third best 16 homers and 37 RBIs on the season. He's in the hunt for the NL MVP so we'll see if he can keep it up. Doubled and triples have become a standard for this powerful lineup and that is where most of our run production has come from. Russell is currently sidelined with a hip injury for 3-4 weeks and Bryant is coming off a 6 game break due to an abdominal injury. Bryant had a horrible April but has really tuned it around in May. He's currently only hitting .190 but is well over .300 in his last 10-15 games and is boasting 24 RBIs, good for second best on the cubbies. Alcantara, Almora, and Contreras have all been called up from the minors to help produce. Batting stats and current lineup is as follows:

            1. Zobrist .299/2 HR/8 RBI
            2. Fowler .275/7 HR/13 RBI
            3. Rizzo .306/16 HR/37 RBI
            4. Bryant .190/7 HR/24 RBI
            5. Heyward .236/2 HR/16 RBI
            6. Soler .255/4 HR/10 RBI
            7. Montero .302/8 HR/16 RBI
            8. Almora .265/3 HR/9 RBI
            9. (Injured) Russell .268/3 HR/14 RBI
            10. Alcantara .241/0 HR/1 RBI

I moved zobrist up to lead off and fowler down to number two and they have had a lot of production. Rizzo blasts at the 3 spot and Bryant has done well at cleaning up any runners left on base, 5 of those 7 home runs have come in May. Heyward, Soler, Montero, and Russell have all kind of delivered the same on and off performance, but those 8 home runs from Montero are definitely welcome and made a big difference in a couple of April games. I call up Contreras to help out David Ross when Montero is resting but so far it hasn't really panned out. Alcantara and Almora are huge additions to the lineup, specifically Almora who has had some very important doubles to secure games.

            Pitching Summary:

Overall our pitching was our saving grace in April and early May until the bats came around. Most surprising has been our 5th man, Hammel, who is currently in the CY YOUNG, yes I said it, CY YOUNG hunt! He is 6-1 and boasts a 1.69 era with 63 strikeouts. He is definitely a big reason why we won a couple of games in April by keeping the other team to a run or less. Our next best has been the ace Arrieta but struggled in his first few starts to land him a 5-4 record. He holds a 2.98 era but an NL third best 76k's on the season. His control has been a bit of an issue but when he's striking out 10/11/12 batters a game, he can afford the couple of walks. Lester, Hendricks, and Lackey have been on and off, I'll show their stats below. The pen has been HUGE for us and I recognized it a bit. Currently Warren is our main RP and usually comes in around inning 6-7 unless the starter has the energy. I can't even explain how clutch warren has been but you'll get the idea when you see his .28 ERA! I moved Rondon to our main set up man due to him blowing a couple of save opportunities in April, but he's really turned it around at the set up spot and I plan to keep him there for now. Strop is a MONSTER and his strike out ability is the reason why he's my current closer. He currently boasts 52 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched, absolutely god like. Current pitching stats are as follows:

            1. Arrieta 5-4/2.98 ERA/76k
            2. Lester 4-3/3.25 ERA/53k
            3. Hendricks 2-3/3.04 ERA/31k
            4. Lackey 2-3/4.44 ERA/30k
            5. Hammel 6-1/1.69 ERA/63k

            RP Warren 1-0/32 IP/.28 ERA/41k
            SU Rondon 2-2/23 IP/2.66 ERA/27k
            CP Strop 3-0/24 IP/11 saves/2.08 ERA/52k

            NL Standings:

            Cubs 27-20
            Pirates 24-24
            Cardinals 24-24
            Reds 23-25
            Brewers 22-26

            Thoughts:

We currently ride a 10 game win streak heading into late May. In April we struggled but things have turned around big time ever since the bats have come to play. After losing series to the Brewers, Reds, Pirates, Padres, and Cards, we have swept the Nats, Giants, Brewers, and Cards. We now head into series with the Dodgers and Phillies, shouldn't be too hard with Philly but the Dodgers will be an exciting match up. Stay tuned for more updates, I'm thinking all star break or end of June.

2019: Finally the year the Twins make the playoffs!

Well at least it's looking like that in early June. I think I'm 37-16 and I just wrapped up the MLB Draft. This was after I threw a CG SHO with #5 SP Tyler Jay who was struggling with a 5.50+ ERA through his first 8 starts. Absolutely shut down the Rangers in Arlington with 9 K's to take us into the draft.

I forgot to mention my 2018 draft so here's the brief recap of that:

#8 pick: CF Alvin Cheney 22 yrs old 62 OVR 94 POT
                - He has the speed and is a switch hitter. With Gerardo Parra only having 2-3 seasons likely left it looks like Cheney can step in and be an every day guys if he progresses decently. He's doing pretty well in AA so far.

                #38 pick: C Pedro Machado 19 yrs old 61 OVR 75 POT
                - Big, young switch hitter who had exceptional contact skills right off the bat. Looks to be like a possible challenger for the youngster Chad Dawson. Both have high C potential with their skill sets. Machado is the contact guy and Dawson hits for power. With Dawson having injury issues this was a pick for system depth.

#68 pick: OF Jermaine Hinson 44 OVR 74 POT
                - Career MiLB player I completely whiffed on this pick. Highly doubt he ever makes any type of impact.

                The rest of 2018's draft:
SP Sean Baker - 61 OVR 87 POT LHP who looks to be a potential back of the rotation guy. He's getting rocked in AA to start his career.
CP Tristan Chico - 60 OVR 80 POT. Hopefully he develops into a decent bullpen arm. His atts weren't anything special
RP Jack York - 59 OVR 76 POT. Another guy who hopefully finds a way to progress to the big league bullpen
C Lewis Thomas - 50 OVR 79 POT. Lottery ticket catcher pick who has terrible ratings to start.

Here's the 2019 draft from what I can recall:

#11 pick - RF Raymond Haywood. He's 21 and a low 60's OVR with awesome power, decent speed and contact. Really excited to see how this guy develops. With the DH spot likely opening up + a potential issue re-signing all my players I can see him finding his way on the roster quickly.

#27 pick - 2B Casey. Has the appearance of a guy who could become a starter and be an every day guy. Hits lefty IIRC and had good speed and defense with okay hitting. It was a quality pickup.

#41 pick - C Saucedo. Another power bat who could also move to 1B. He starts out at like 72 OVR and his D + power are where it's at. Needs to improve contact but has the potential to be a very quality player and find a way into the big league lineup some how. Could always put this guy at 1B or DH in the bigs...but his catching D is so nice...maybe I'll move somebody else.

#71 pick - I took a RP who was pretty good. I think he's a mid-B POT guy. I really need bullpen depth and hopefully he develops into a guy who can give me quality years.

Rd 4 pick - Took a SP who is a low B. Nothing special but he's just another decent arm in the system who might progress into something decent.

Rd 5+ - can't remember and nobody was really worth mentioning.

                ________________

Super quick farm system update from memory:

SP Pedro Hernandez is tearing up AAA. Don't be surprised to see him make a late season push to get called up. Would love for him to stay down all year and hopefully Tyler Jay can continue to build off his last start.

Ummm that's really about it! My other position guys + pitchers just aren't there yet. Hernandez is the only guy who looks positioned to come up any time soon. The 1st year pro C Pedro Machado is tearing up AA but he needs at least a full year pro before I consider calling him up. Well unless another injury to the catcher position happens. Chad Dawson comes back in two weeks...he got hurt again...

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Started a Giants save that hopefully i can stick with. Rushed through 3 seasons and my team performances have been slowly going down hill, but still looking good.

Season #1 We finished with 109 wins(27 games clear of the Dodgers) and went out in 6 to the Pirates in the NLCS.

Posey started the season on fire. Hitting around 330 with 21 hrs and 50 odd rbis by the all start break. But slowed down big time in the 2nd half and only ended up with 26 homers with about 75 rbis. Not to much more to write home about with the rest of the offence

Bumgarner and Cueto formed a great 1-2 punch on the mound. Both won 15 games and both finished with a sub 3 era. Kontos was the pick of the bullpen guys with an era of 0.87 over the season on 57 innings of work.

Season #2 We finished with 104 win(10 games clear of the Dbacks) and got knocked out of the NLDS in 5 by the pirates again.

Belt was the top hitter on the team with around 25 hommers and 80 rbis. Pence and Posey were their normal steady selves.

Cueto was in line for the cy young award halfway through the season. Started at 12-0 with a 1.5 era but fell away in the back end but still manages 15 wins with an era around 3. Castilla, Romo and Strickland all had a go a closing but none could grab the chance.

Season #3 made a few signing in the offseason (I'll post the roster when I'm actually at my ps4 so i don't get enything wrong) and we finished with 96 wins( 6 games back from the Dodgers) and lost the wildcard game against, suprise suprise the Pirates again.

Belt continued to grow finishing with 41 hommers and 105 rbis.

Bumgarner went 20-5 but can't remember his era but he must have been close to the cy young(which has been won the last 3 years by Francisco Liriano while playing for 2 seasons.

Made a few roster changes for this season so hoping to at least beat the pirates in the playoffs. I will start playing more games this season and I'm going to try and get some more talent in my farm system if i can't crack the world series in the next few years.

So my first series of July was against the D-Backs.

In the third game, the opposing pitcher was Zack Greinke (first time going against him this season).

When Greinke came up to the plate, I noticed he had a .328 batting average. I laughed a little bit and kind of wrote it off.

Then he went 2-3 against me with 2 RBIs.

                    Can he play outfield? Lol

Reminds me of the time I wanted to just get done with a pitcher's at bat. It was 2 out, none on.

So I fast forwarded to next half inning.

                      The man hit a HR.

I imagined the game rolling in my RAM laughing at me.

My 2016 Mets won the WS, beating the Dodgers, Cubs and finally the Tigers in the playoffs. It took a tenth inning HR to beat the Tigers in Game Seven of the WS. I let Duda and Walker walk. I made very few moves to change the team otherwise.

I'll start posting updates in here by month, But first let me say I play every single game except spring training and I pitch on Hall Of fame and pat on All-Star. I am currently playing my 2015 carryover brewers team and the current season is august 27th of 2016. The first year I won 101 games and a first ever world series. Little update huge FA signing Jordan Zimmerman in 24 starts as a Brewer is 19-0 with a 1.37 ERA and 24 QS, he has thrown 8 CG and 6 SHO on 183.1 innings. he has allowed 127 hits 31 runs only 28 Earned, 10 HR 5 BB and 199 SO to generate a .72 WHIP. It's just amazing how awesome this guy is too pitch with!

So I get to partake in the HR Derby as Miguel Sano is having an incredible season with 27 HR at the ASB. Round 1 I get paired up with Giancarlo Stanton who proceeds to hit 27 HR. I hit 17 which was respectable but damn...27? Stanton went on to win the derby.

Twins finally had a good showing at the All-Star game as well.

                              SP William Connors (reserve)
                              CL Sean Doolittle (reserve)
                              3B Miguel Sano (starter)
                              1B Justin Bour (starter)
                              LF Wil Myers (reserve)

I'll post some stats this evening if I can. After seasons of 72-73-76 wins I'm on pace for 100. The big acquisitions in the off season were bullpen arm Jeurys Familia and the bats of Gerardo Parra/Justin Bour. The heart of my lineup is the best in baseball at the moment. Myers/Sano/Bour are going to combine for 130+ HR together (projected). My pitching staff has been pretty good but our offense is so damn good we just score runs in bunches and hit a bunch of HR. After having team averages in the .250's for years 1-3 my team is currently hitting .280 and #1 in the MLB. We lead in AVG/HR/Runs/SLG. I think my record is 63-37 at the moment which is best in baseball.

The Cardinals continue to struggle after the All-Star Break, with a record of 3-4. Hitting and pitching has both let down the Cardinals. Carlos Martinez who dominated the first half of the season, is 0-2 with a 6+ ERA after the break. The Cardinals also have no one hitting the cover off the ball in the 7 games since the break. In fact, everyone's average is on the decline. Hopefully things can turn around this weekend with 3 games against the Dodgers.

In other news...the Cardinals continue to mull over potential trades with Kolten Wong's name being at the top of the list. With the addition of Brock Holt and the expected move of Carpenter to 2nd Base next year to make room for up and comer Patrick Wisdom at 3B, Wong appears to be a man without a spot on the roster. The Cardinals continue to debate whether they want to make a trade with Wong now, or hang on to him for his defensive ability for the remainder of the year and then make a move in the offseason when the market for Wong may be more open.
