Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins draft is done and here's the results.

    1st round - No pick

2nd round - RHP Matt Lombardo, 19, 55/B - Matt could have a lot of upside. His velocity is solidly plus with his movement about as good as well. Command isn't terrible for a pitcher this young. As is often the case with young arms, it will be a matter of seeing how he is able to use his stuff and refine it going forward. Matt is in excellent shape and takes pride in his conditioning habits during the season as well as in the offseason. Matt feature five offerings and is not shy about using any of them. If anything, he'll need to learn to rely on his fastball more and not be afraid to throw it, even when behind in the count.

3rd round - C Greg Beavers, 20, 75/C - What Greg lacks in upside he makes up for by looking very much ready for the majors right now. He should be a solid contact hitter with above average discipline and vision. He's also a solid defensive catcher who has quick feet and reactions, reliable hands, and enough arm to have some control over the running game as well as make good throws to the bases when needed.

4th round - SS Hideki Shinjo, 19, 55/B - One thing is certain about Hideki, he is fast and knows how to use that speed on the bases. The other thing that's certain about Hideki is there's no telling how the rest of his game might evolve. He will probably be moved to 2B or perhaps LF as a speed-and-range outfielder. At the plate, he doesn't look terrible, but he needs a lot of work and it's hard to assume he'd be able to make the needed improvement.

5th round - RHP Rene Blanco, 19, 59/B - Rene is a starter that's noted for his workhorse mentality above all else. His cutter has decent pace on it, but the movement sometimes comes and goes. The same is true for his slider and curve. He doesn't throw the splitter much, so it's hard to evaluate until he has to turn to it more often against tougher competition. He doesn't figure to be a big strikeout pitcher, relying more on staying in the zone and keeping the ball down for success. Despite having ability to maintain his stuff deep into games, his delivery can be awkward and inefficient at times, putting more strain on his body than is ideal.

6th round - LF Jaime Prado, 19, 59/C - Jaime's profile is interesting. He's looking like a major league hitter already. His swing is very compact and efficient, making solid contact to all fields. Very impressive for a teenaged hitter. His discipline is also like a major leaguer's and he doesn't strike out very much in the process. The big problem with Prado will be defense. He has an outfielders arm but his feet are clumsy and he doesn't make good reads on the ball in the air. Injury risk is also a concern as well as his overall conditioning. He will have to figure out the defensive side of things, or else his team will have to figure out what to do with him.

7th round - We suffered the "there's no more players" fate, so no pick.

      GM J.K. Stewart's Report
The season is going as expected at this point. Sitting at 12 games back already with a roster and farm system that doesn't appear to have the talent to get us back into the race paints an unfavorable remainder to 2017. As of right now we're trying to identify guys who are long-term pieces, trades assets, and expendable. The guys know this and it's just the professional business side of things. We're going to constantly evaluate each player in each step of our organization and see what value they bring to the franchise.

Welp June was a big sim-fest due to my team not being good at all...just trying to get to 2018...

        2017 MLB Draft Results
        Pick 1.02 - LF Bert Drese, 19 yrs old (6'1" 178) L/L
+ Drese has excellent power and appears to have a high ceiling. If his contact progresses he has the chance to be an excellent piece for the franchise.

        Pick 2.02 - RP Lou Zavala, 19 yrs old (6'1" 199) R/R
+ With the Padres bullpen struggles it's clear that the organization needs arms. Zavala comes in at 66 OVR with B POT and he appears not too far away from the bigs.

        Pick 3.02 - CP Stefan Cordova, 20 yrs old (5'11" 189) L/L
+ Another bullpen arm that comes in at 69 OVR C POT. Throws four pitches and already has 72 H/9 & 75 K/9.

        Pick 4.02 - SP Manny Coronado, 20 yrs old (6'0" 190) L/L
+ He looks like a project with a 60 OVR C POT rating out the gate. Only three pitches so he might end up getting moved to the pen when it's all said and done.

        Pick 5.02 - 3B Brian Ramos, 19 yrs old (6'2" 202) R/R
+ He has some serious pop but his K% will be super high. Decent athlete comes in at 65 OVR with C POT.

        Pick 6.02 - RP Edward Ballard, 18 yrs old (6'4" 187) R/R
+ Probably should've gone to college as he's a 59 OVR with D POT. Going to be a long shot to make it to the bigs.

        Pick 7.02 - 3B Robert Schwartz, 20 yrs old (6'2" 209) S/R
+ He is fit for an AL club as he doesn't belong in the field. He'd be a slap hitting switch hitter DH with decent speed and contact. Pitchers hit the ball with more authority than Schwartz and the ball boy has a better glove.

        G J.K. Stewart Report
Not much to say with this club. We know it's an uphill battle and we need to just get through this season. Hopefully a couple guys can start to develop and we get a better idea of our future. The evaluation process will be exhausting.

          That Drese kid.

That's an awesome prospect right there. Borderline ready now, will hit extra base hits, serviceable defense for LF and could move to either of his infield positions with that arm, so you don't have to worry as much about him getting blocked or blocking someone else.

          Nice pick.

Having the #2 pick paid off in this draft.

You did miss one important aspect of the picture...he's left handed lol

He's going to have to stick with OF!

I thought the game won't make lefties at infield spots. I guess since he's not "primary" infielder, it didn't see it Really, MLB16? Really? Can't see a guys secondary spots?

I'd be editing that once the next season starts. I'd consider it the scout accidentally checking the wrong box on his scout form.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Made my first trade in my Yankees Franchise (late June). Traded Luis Severino (original roster, 82, A potential), a 72 C prospect and another C prospect for Nolan Arenado and Ryan Rayburn. Arenado has been on the block most of the season and both he and Rayburn are underperforming. Yanks finally have a star in the lineup and Rockies get good return on Arenado as Severino in my game is a future ace. Yanks needed the offense as ARod has been awful for a month after starting out on fire with rapidly diminishing ratings and Raburn will be a nice platoon in right with Beltran. The rotation will be diminished as I will now have to keep CC and my struggling A prospect in the rotation when Eovaldi returns but the added offense and having a cornerstone is worth it. Only 1 game out of the wildcard despite being only 2 games over 500.

What do you guys have your trade frequency slider on? And do you keep your trade frequency slider the same throughout July or do you turn it up slightly at the begaining of July and turn it up more at the all star break? Just curious on what others are doing for that slider.

Mine is on default throughout the entire season.

Just had probably the funnest 3 game series of the season against the Nationals using the Dodgers.

                              Game 1:
Kenta Maeda who's doing pretty well on the season so far got roughed up for 13 hits and 6 runs over 5.1 innings. Scherzer was off this game giving up 5 runs over 6.2 innings. Rivero and Kelley hold the Dodgers to 0 runs until the bottom of the 9th. In comes Papelbon and he gets the first out. Venable and Grandal both get on base via walks. In comes Scott Van Slyke he hits a 1st pitch 3 run walk off Home Run.

                              Game 2:
In the bottom of the 8th inning of a 5-3 game, Strasburg walks AJ Ellis and the gets taken out of the game for Yusmero Petit to face Will Venable. Will Venavlble gets an opposite field single cause the infield was in. Micah Johnson tries to bunt the runners over twice but fails and ends up popping out. Yasiel Puig comes up and you guessed it first pith swinging hits a game tying 2 run Home Run. Out goes Petit and in comes Rivero. He gives up a double to Seager and then a walk to Joc Pederson. In comes Adrian Gonzalez and on the 3-2 pitch he hits his 300th Home Run. A 3 run shot to put the Dodgers ahead 8-5. Out goes Rivero and in comes Gott. He gives up a triple to Justin Turner and then a double to Scott Van Slyke. Ellis strikes out and Venable pops out to end the 6 run onslaught. Kenley Jansen comes in to strike out 3.

                              Game 3:
Joe Ross, like Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg, pitched a winning game. In the 7th Joe Ross walks Grandal. Howie Kendrick comes in for Baez and he gets a hit to shallow right. Chase Utley comes up and sends a rocket between 1st and 2nd so Grandal couldn't score. Scott Van Slyke who has been mashing in this series (5 for 8 with a 2B, HR and 6 RBIs) lines hard to left. Seager, who's having a very strong year, grounds out to short. Pederson comes up with the bases loaded and hits a fly out to CF ending the inning with the bases loaded. In the top of the 8th the phenom Urias, who was originally slated to start, comes out of the bullpen and strikes out the 1st batter he sees then gets out of the inning unscathed. To the bottom of the 8th, dreadful times for the Nats of late, and Shawn Kelley is back in there. He strikes out AGon. Turner manages a rocket to the opposite field for a single. Venable walks. Grandal pops out. In comes Puig for Urias with 2 on. 1st pitch was a very low changeup in the dirt. Next pitch was a high fastball...the same high fastball that Puig launched the night before...same result. This put the Dodgers up 5-4 and Kenley Jansen got the call to warm up. He comes in the top of th 9th strikes out the 1st batter, ground outs the next and strikes out the final batter to complete the 3 game come from behind sweep. This only added insult to injury cause Jayson Weth tore his ACL in the 1st inning of the game.

The Nats sit 39-34 8 games behind the Mets for the division and 4 games behind the Marlins for 2nd. They're still tied for 2nd with the Diamondbacks for the 2nd wildcard spot but that injury is huge as Werth was hitting .338/.399/.517 with a 2.06 WAR. The Dodgers are rolling at 50-24 on the back of the greatest pitching year ever so far by Kershaw. 13-0 W-L/126.2 IP/0.78 ERA/0.58 WHIP/11.3 K9/0.28 BB9/1.10 FIP/5.77 WAR/159Ks 4 BBs.

The Blue Jays were dealt a big blow yesterday as Troy Tulowitzki fractured his forearm and will be out 1-2 months. He started very slow but has since came on and now sees his batting average sitting at .224 with 8 homers and 19 RBI (2nd week in June). He was batting .389 over his past 10 games and was even bumped up in the batting order.

The Jays will be getting Chris Colabello back this week sometime and Saunders in the next 7-10 days, which will help their offence, but there is a now a hole at SS.

The Jays are not sure what they will do. They will likely give the reins to Darwin Barney who is hitting .345 in 50 AB this year as a bench piece. He started his first game for Tulo going 3/4 with a double and RBI. Ryan Goins will be his backup but is hitting .167 on the season and didn't hit much better in AAA (.229).

If the Blue Jays start to lose ground in the AL East (1.5 GB of 1st), they could look at rentals such as Zach Cozart, Eric Aybar or Freddy Glavis. However, the team hopes they can survive with Darwin Barney leading the charge.

The Blue Jays have also been rumoured to be discussing a minor deal with the Reds for C/INF Jordan Pacheco. Pacheco can provide the team with an upgrade to the backup catcher position as it has been a revolving door thus far (4 different players). He would also give the team a bench piece who can play all INF positions, which would mean Goins could go back to AAA and a better bat could take his spot.

The Jays lost game 1 against Detroit 4-3 after a bullpen collapse, but came out firing in game 2 with a 9-0 win behind 5 homers (Bautista, Donaldson, Smoak, Martin, EE) and a CG shutout by Stroman.

Game 3 sees JA Happ take the mound against Daniel Norris in a battle of Lefties.
