Redsox Take Wild Game 2 - Tie Series 1-1

In a wild game #2, the Boston Redsox come out on top to tie the series and head to Boston for games 3 and 4. With a show of bats, pitching also showed hints of dominance at times.

Boston grabbed the early lead after Dustin Pedroia hit a 2 run HR to start the game. The Blue Jays would come out hot and get three straight base hits. Luckily, Porcello limited the damage to just 2 runs. Bottom of the 2nd, Blue Jays come out swinging again ripping two more base hits to start. Porcello once again was able to escape with minimal damage. Blue Jays would lead 4-2.

Top of the 4th would be quite an eventful top half for the Redsox. Travis Shaw would smack a solo shot on a curveball while Jackie Bradley Jr. would also hit a solo shot to tie the game 4-4. Porcello settled in a nice groove until the 6th inning where he would get in a jam allowing a lead off walk. With a runner on 3rd, 1 out, Redsox intentionally walked a batter to have runners on the corner. Porcello would strike out the next batter and ground out the next one to escape danger.

Top of the 9th, first two batters went down with very little resistance, however, Loup would peg Christian Vasquez. With a runner on first, two outs, Jackie Bradley Jr. would rope a shot to LF, as it looked it would be caught, the left fielder would dive and MISS! With the ball rolling to the backstop and Vasquez getting a jump with two outs, he would score and this would prove deadly for the Blue Jays. Kimbrel would come in and do his thing, allowing 0 hits, 1 strikeout.

Next game will be in Boston, Massachusetts. If Boston can take game 3 and 4, they will be sitting pretty, if they split, they head back to a very tough Toronto city.

Royals Acquire Bryce Harper as They
        Seek AL Playoff Push

The Royals are currently sitting 4 1/2 games out of the AL Central lead and 3 games out of an AL Wild Card spot. Their offense has been anemic so when Miami put out some exploratory feelers to gauge possible interest in Bryce Harper, the Royals came calling with an possible offer interesting enough to prompt more serious talks.

"We've been working on this for a few days, " the Royals GM spoke, "We've been looking for something to get the bats working. We're fortunate to hang around as we have, but we knew we had to get better."

To that end, the Royals packaged some prospects together and it ended up being good enough to consummate a deal. The Royals dealt a trio of interesting young players:

IF/OF Kirk Jefferies, 23 - a solid contact hitter with solid, if sometimes erratic defense. Throwing especially can be an adventure, but the Marlins liked the bat and the upside his secondary abilities hinted at to take a shot. Jefferies could land on the roster immediately, perhaps pushing Jesmuel Valentin back to AAA. The Marlins bench would become very versatile with both Jefferies and Campos as solid utility men.

SP Jared Richard, 23 [Top 50 prospect] - He can be summed up in two words: wild flamethrower. Or, at least the Marlins hope, "effectively wild". What's interesting is he's Tyler Kolek all over again in profile. High velocity, power everything, very wild. Perhaps the Marlins will try an old-school high heat pitcher again, and this time, they might try at the majors. He'll start in AAA, but that might not be for long.

"We might have been too slow to challenge Tyler [Kolek]. We won't do that again here, " a team scout spoke.

OF Sam Dutremble, 18 - Arguably the centerpiece of the package, at least as far as the Marlins are concerned, Dutremble is a very advanced hitter. He looks like a major leaguer at 18. He won't be in the bigs just yet because of his defense, and he won't garner good playing time as just a PH. So he'll work in New Orleans and try to master defense.

On the Marlins side of things, this opens the door for Josh Hart to get a fair shot against Arturo Gonzalez...and maybe both will stick now. The hole left by Harper probably will need two men to fill it. And with Jefferies here, Campos could be placed as a starter again if needed as Jefferies could assume the primary utility role.

Perhaps this will start the dominos falling in terms of trades. Bullock still looks very much in play, perhaps more so with Richard coming in. One name this probably will take off, though, is Stan Brito. His power bat will now be counted on to develop more consistency for sure.

While the Marlins weren't hurting for money, per se, this will free up more money for arbitration as they try to keep their primary home-grown talents together, especially on the pitching side.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Any plans to deal a starter might be put temporarily on hold as Clay Huff went down with an injury that will keep him out a few weeks.

Moses Bartlett got off the DL so he'll jump right into the rotation. The knuckleballer would have been in the rotation anyway, but Bullock gets some more time to audition to potential suitors...or convince the Marlins he should stay.

The Royals have jumped into the second Wild Card spot. Harper may be the boost they needed.

Jared Richard's first few outings in the Marlins system were interesting to say the least. He gave up 7 walks in just 5 1/3 innings of work, but escaped with just 2 runs of damage. In one relief outing, he gave up 6 walks in 2 innings, but allowed just 1 run. He entered the rotation when New Orleans had an off-day to reset the rotation.

His first start? A complete game victory where he struck out 13 and walked 3, allowing just 1 run.

Dutremble is hitting at a .327/.422/.485 clip in early AAA action. The bat is indeed looking like it will handle AAA just fine.

Meanwhile, Kolek the Closer is doing solid enough - he's 6 for 7 in save chances and holds a 2.57 ERA (2.22 FIP).

          Arcia traded to Cardinals

The Cardinals are trying to reshape the team for a return to the playoffs next season. They picked up Oswaldo Arcia (88 OVR) from the Blue Jays for CP Trevor Rosenthal (87) and SP Tyrell Jenkins (80). Arcia has struggled this year, batting just .202, but should be doing far better. Meanwhile, the Jays will go with a youngster in place of Arcia, 23-year-old Elden Rojas. He looks ready for the opportunity.

Rosenthal looks to be the main piece for the Jays as they try to build the back of the bullpen.

Neither team is doing particularly well this year. The Jays are stuck in 4th and the Cardinals are in last in what has been a shock to their system after being among the top NL dogs the last three seasons.

Michael Saunders can't stay healthy. After missing 2 months with a torn hamstring he came back, only to get injured DTD before his first game (in warm ups) and out 6 days with abdominal strain. Gets back from that and plays 2 games. Makes a great diving catch and now out another 6 days with knee inflammation! Haha. Can't catch a break for him. Love what he is doing for my Jays in real life being Canadian and all. Just frustrating to have in The Show. Seriously considering letting him walk in free agency

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Well I mentioned I restarted my Astros franchise and I am very happy I did. I ended up rolling with 30 team control mainly just for piece of mind that contracts dont get enabled next year but also to reverse anything stupid (I have seen Papi get traded A LOT at the deadline lol).

Anyways I am midway through the home opening series against KC and we sit at 6-2 on the year, so a hot start like last time which I am happy with would have sucked to got liked 4-14 to start the year in the new save lol. But not as hot a realistic hot. We took 2 out of 3 in New York to start the year against the Yankees, it was a very exciting series as far as offense goes.

Game 1 we won 7-5, we won game 2 7-2, and they won game 3 10-6.

Then we headed to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers who were 0-3 to start the year. We ended up sweeping them but it was another exciting series, game 1 was 5-1, game 2 6-4, game 3 6-3.

Onto the KC series game 1 we lost unfortunately we just couldn't breakthrough against Danny Duffy who allowed only 1 run. Final score was 4-1. Game 2 was an offensive show case. We jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning they responded with 3 of their own we responded with 2 more in the half inning so it was 4-3 in the 4th then they got 1 more to tie it.

Finally the pitchers settled in and there wouldnt be another run until the bottom of the 6th when we struck for two to take a 6-4 lead, we got 1 more in the 7th and that was enough. Will Harris picked up his 4th save already on the year, he i 4/4 on save opportunities.

Doug Fister struggled in this save too and I know overall isnt all I should look at but this is a different save file and he is struggling again but it is only 2 games so I wont overreact. His 2nd game was actually a lot better than his first it was the 4-1 loss against the Royals.

Carlos Correa has been red hot to start the year and nearly hit for the cycle in game 3 against the Brewers but couldn't get the double in his final 2 PA's to complete it. Was almost an extremely historic game Keuchel had a 1 hitter going until the 6th inning. Would have been crazy to have a cycle and no hitter in one game lol.

Anyways really enjoying this and I have the Gurriel brothers on my team. I figured it has been rumored they are a package deal so I decided to add Lourdes and leave the high potential prospects in Free Agency to the other teams. I wont bring Lourdes out of Single A until sometime next year have to research when he will be eligible IRL.

Yulieski I will put in AA or AAA after the All-Star break other than that I am not handicapping my self at all for bringing guys up. I am still keeping McCullers out until he came back in real life other then that its now my universe.

I will post another update towards the end of the month.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Only 7 games to go in my Red Sox franchise. I have played every pitch of every game, and there's no better feeling than completing a season. I'm sitting at 103-51 with the.............3rd best record in baseball, and I haven't even clinched the division, yet........seriously. San Fran and the Cubs have better records than me by 1 and 2 games, and Toronto is currently sitting at 101-53. I have series with the Yankees and.........you guessed it.....Toronto to finish out the year. Price looks to be the runaway with the Cy Young and he's currently sitting in 1st in the MVP. 22-5 with a 1.89 ERA. I have nobody hitting .300, but Pedroia, Bogaerts, Bradley JR are all in the high 290s. Papi has 44 homers and 92 RBI, both lead my team, but is only hitting .258. Jardod Dyson became the trade of the century, stealing over 80 bases in limited action and hitting in the .320s (not enough ABs for me to count him as a .300 hitter). Kimbrel has 49 saves and a 0.63 ERA. I plan on playing all bench guys the final 2 games, including pitchers, in order to be fully rested, assuming I can clinch the division before then. I only worry about getting guys off hot streaks, or on cold streaks, because both are so intense.

Cardinals have rattled off their 5th win in a row. This was also the 5th straight game where the Cardinals put up 6+ runs on 10+ hits. Our offense is absolutely on fire right now. Our pitching staff is holding its own despite being without Adam Wainwright and Jaime Garcia who are both projected to return to the rotation around Labor Day.

Next up is a 3 game set with the Braves at Busch.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Toronto makes multiple roster moves on Canada day! The calendar has flipped to July and Canadians all around are celebrating with BBQs, fireworks, family festivities and baseball! The Blue Jays have given them another reason to have a beer. They have opened their trade season making 2 small deals to bolster their depth. The Jays sit in first place and are 2 games up on the Yankees and 4.5 over the Red Sox. First off, the injury shuffling:

                      - Jays activate Domonic Brown from the DL, call him up to the big league club.

                      - Kevin Pillar is placed on the 15 day DL with a torn finger nail. He will miss the minimum 2 weeks.

                      - Jays send down Alex Guerrero and call up Ezequiel Carrera. Guerrero received most of the starts in LF with Saunders on the DL but hit only .233. His 9 homers were nice but they all came in one month of the year. Careers was needed to give the team another CF with Pillar down for 2 weeks.

                      - Released David Ross, Max Pentcost to AA. Ross was batting .089 in 100 at bats.

                      - Traded 19 year old Urena (58C) and cash to the Reds for Jordan Pacheco and SS Carlos Triunfel. This gives the Jays their backup catcher and some depth at SS with Tulo hurt for a 19 year old SS prospect. Pacheco is hitting .180 this year in the big leagues and can play any Infield position.

The Jays trade 3B Matt Dominguez and RP Daniel Barnes to Cleveland for Josh Tomlin. This was an interesting deal. The Jays were looking for another bottom of the rotation starter and Tomlin fits that bill. He is pitching to a 3.96 era (6 starts,,6 relief) and has spent some time in AAA. The Indians have Chisenhall and Urshella on the DL long term and traded Jose Ramirez to the Red Sox earlier in the year. Dominguez has been taking in AAA with a .319 average and 15 homers (both lead AAA) in over 200 at bats. The Jays had no room for him on the big league clue. Dominguez has progressed to a 77/C (79 with new player moral on Cle) while Tomlin is rated a 78/C.

Barney and Goins continue to split time at SS while Pacheco becomes the new backup C and Tomlin heads to the bullpen. Dickey is having a very rough month and is regressing fast. Could the Jays release him or try to send him to AAA? He will likely be given a few more starts to show he belongs. Happ has also struggled lately so Tomlin could eventually join the rotation.

Floyd is expected back in a couple days from the DL which means the Jays would have Tomlin, Chavez and Floyd in the pen with the ability to pitch multiple innings. The Jays look to build on a 6-4 win in game 1 against the Rockies next!

                      Stay tuned.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Finished June with the Braves. Looks like we're going to be sellers at the deadline (no shock). A rough June has left us with a 35-45 record and 15 games behind the Nats in the East. We're about nine back in the wild card.

We just can't hit ... at all. We're last in the league with a .225 team average. Inciarte (.270-4-17), Freeman (.263-16-43) and Markakis (.278-5-30) are our only semi-consistent bats. Trayce Thompson is hitting just .170 since we acquired him, but has done well other than a dreadful 0-for-37 slump that killed his average.

Teheran (8-6, 2.00) has been great for us on the mound. The starting pitching as a whole has been solid. The bullpen has been inconsistent. Shea Simmons (1-1, 1.50) and Jason Grilli (21 saves, 1.44) have been terrific.

The Nats have a commanding 9.5 game lead in the East. The Marlins got red hot in June and surged from the cellar into second place, ahead of the Mets. The Phillies are in last.

The Dodgers own the NL West. The Pirates continue to hold off the Cubs and Cards in the Central.

In the AL, the Jays and Orioles flip-flop back and forth atop the East, but the Red Sox are coming on. The Indians continue to hold off the Royals in the Central. The Angels, Mariners and Astros are bunched up at the top of the West.

So far in my Red Sox franchise I am 15-15 in year one and have played every pitch. I did try to come up with a plan for speeding up the season but I just can't. Still getting used to the hitting and pitching but I think it is almost time to bump the difficulty for pitching. My team ERA is 3.45 and my runs per game on offense in the last 10 games is 7.3, though that is slightly skewed by a 18-2 drubbing on the Yankees a couple games back. Ortiz' line is .302 9 HR and 31 RBI in 29 games played, Betts' is .285 6HR and 19 RBI so far and Bogaerts' is .234 3HR and 14 RBI (he's been hot as of late though hitting .350 with 2HR and 10 RBI in his last 6 games). I have made all of the trades the team did in real life and am using OSFM 1.0. I started this franchise once that hit and just haven't had a ton of time but now I am looking at playing 10 games a week and should be done by playoff time I hope.

The Mets are the first team to win back to back WS since the Yankees won 3 straight from 98 to 2000.

                              Off Season Plans

Alex Gordon, Kelvin Herrera, Luke Hochevar and Kendrys Morales are the only guys we have that are free agents. Gordon and Herrera take priority. Not sure what to do with Morales. Gonna be 36. But had one of his best years in a long time. Will probably bring him back.

We need to get a starter. A reliable #1 or 2. And with a new TV contract on the way we should have the funds to do so. Aside from that not to many areas we need to makes moves at.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

So in year 3 of our franchise I've created an Oakland team that has 1-8 in my lineup hitting .292 or better. Aybar bats 9th at about .240. I lead the majors in average at .281 as a team.

What's funny is that lineup has struggled to score lately as I'm 7-11 in June and my lead has shrunk to only 4.0 on Houston. It's annoying to score 3 runs on 10 hits, but hopefully it's just a bad stretch and they get back on track soon.

We play every Tuesday and Friday game. We had started off playing 1, simming 3 days, but this season we started the Tuesday Friday games so that we don't have to worry about off days. I went 73-89 in year 1 and 67-95 in year 2. I planned on getting around .500 this year, but as you can tell my lineup has been insane and I finally have my pitchers also pitching like the good staff they are with a 3.2 ERA. It's nice. Gray had an ERA over 4 last year, but is back to 2.2 this year.
