I am having an unreal and unexpected season in my Phillies franchise. Currently on a 12 game winning streak and leading the NL East by about 15-16 games over the Nationals. Nationals have been hit with injuries and just aren't playing well.

My offense has been showing a lot of power this season. 3rd in MLB in home runs. My pitching has been excellent as well. 4/5 of the rotation has been very good as well. David Hernandez has been lights out in the bullpen with an ERA around 0.75 on the season. I have been shuffling my corner outfield spots a bit. Considered calling up Nick Williams but he isn't lighting the world on fire in AAA. Approaching the deadline I am decided if I want to trade for an outfielder or another starting pitcher. I will be getting Maikel Franco back from the 60-day DL right before the deadline so that may make me lean toward a starter. Considering my position in the standings I want to do something to really put me over the top.

5 games left before the All-Star break at which point I will be posting a big season update in here.

I seriously did not expect to have the season I am having. I hit and pitch on All-Star using Armor & Sword's slider set.

Just a note from my 30-team franchise.

Odubel has had three consecutive MVP caliber seasons, and is leading the Phillies in season three to a possible playoff birth.

I have definitely had a lot of things go my way this season. Playoffs appear very likely with the division lead I have.

Definitely would be interested to see updates on your season man.

I'm doing a 30 Team O's chise. Through 10 games I'm 4-10, 3.5 games back from Toronto. When I pitch well my bats struggle and when I pitch poorly my bats can't push across more than the other team. All in all its a challenge but I'm enjoying the process. I think I'm going to pull out of this funk eventually.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Phillies push their winning streak to 13 straight games and now have an 18 game lead in the NL East.

I just swept the Braves and this game was almost the streak breaker. Phillies took a 3-1 lead into the 9th inning and reliable closer Jeanmar Gomez in to pitch. He promptly serves up a solo home run and then a double and a single to let the Braves the tie the game at 3. Only his 2nd blown save of the season. Hector Neris comes in to finish the inning clean. Phillies go down easily in the bottom of the 9th.

Top of the 10th, Brett Oberholtzer comes in and serves up back to back doubles to give the Braves the 4-3 lead.

Bottom of the 10th starts with a base hit by Andres Blanco. Jimmy Paredes then walks. Cesar Hernandez comes up to bunt and is then hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Cameron Rupp is next and deposits one into the left field seats for a walk-off Grand Slam!!

              The storybook season continues!

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

                Chicago Cubs 2016 July Update

                Overall Record: 70-35
                Home Record: 33-18
                Away Record: 36-17
                July Record: 19-6

Season Skinny: The Cubbies are strutting their stuff as they roll on through July with a massive 19.5 game lead in the NL Central. We are currently leading every pitching category in the NL (All-Star difficulty/TNK Sliders) with a team ERA of 2.92, 958 strikeouts, 329 runs allowed, and 81 home runs allowed. Our bullpen, led by 2016 All-Star closer Pedro Strop & 2016 All-Star Set-up Man Adam Warren, has been our bread and butter leaving opposing hitters speechless as they lock down games in the late innings. 2016 All-Star Jason Hammel continues to be our star pitching performer with an 11-3 record in 142.1 innings pitched. On the offense, 2016 All-Star Dexter Fowler has been lighting things up with a .324 average, 2016 All-Star Anthony Rizzo leads the team with 24 home runs and 60 runs batted in.

                Lineup:

                1. Dexter Fowler .324/18 HR/48 RBI
                2. Jason Heyward .270/8 HR/35 RBI
                3. Anthony Rizzo .283/24 HR/60 RBI
                4. Kris Bryant .263/19 HR/60 RBI
                5. Addison Russell .262/9 HR/27 RBI
                6. Ben Zobrist .266/7 HR/29 RBI
                7. Jorge Soler .274/14 HR/33 RBI
                8. Miguel Montero .273/17 HR/48 RBI

Utility. Javier Baez .208/7 HR/19 RBI
Utility. Arismendy Alcantara .270/1 HR/10 RBI
Bench. Wilson Contreras .190/1 HR/4 RBI
Bench. Matt Szczur .129/0 HR/2 RBI
Bench. Tommy La Stella .216/0 HR/4 RBI

Batting Skinny: Through July the Cubbies are hitting an average of .265 (6th in MLB), 128 Homeruns (4th in MLB), 399 RBI (19th in MLB), and 66 Stolen Bases (2nd in MLB). We are hitting the ball, we are blasting home runs, heck, we are stealing bases like crazy, but run production has still been down! We have made a ton of silly base running errors and have hit way too many silly pop outs with ducks on the pond...we need to clean that up if we want a shot at it all. In terms of the lineup, every one does their part. Fowler has been performing so well for us and his 18 home runs on the year have been huge. He is a vital part of this offense and has absolutely earned this month's MVP nod on my team..he's also on a 20 game hit streak! Heyward may not knock in a ton of runs or blast bombs, but he is currently leading the majors in triples and is up there in steals, two stats that don't get enough credit. He is almost always in scoring position when he's on base. Rizzo has hit a huge slump in July after being easily our batting MVP from April-June. He's not seeing the ball well at all and has been popping up and striking out too much. Maybe i'll give him a few days rest. Bryant has increased his average from the .220's to .263 over the month of July & is now second on the team with 19 home runs. He is really coming into his own as the season has gone on and the one-two-three punch of Fowler, Rizzo, and Bryant is crazy. Addison Russell has been playing good ball, not great ball. A lot of his hits have come in odd times, like two outs or when we are up 6-1...he hasn't been a clutch batter...but we can give him time. Zobrist is not over performing or underperforming, he's just grinding and doing his thing. Soler is hitting .274 and his 14 home runs have been solid, he was a big part in a couple mid-july wins. Miggy is hitting a solid .273 and has the third highest home run total on the team with 17. He is definitely over performing and hopefully he can continue this hot streak through the dog days of summer. Baez and Alcantara are my go-to utility guys, both can play so many positions. Baez doesn't have the best average at .208, but he's blasted 7 homers for us in crucial situations. Contreras remains a question mark as to if i'll send him back down to AAA. He's hitting .190 on the season with 1 homer and 4 RBI's...he does't seem to be MLB ready. Szczur and La Stella remain in the MLB solely for getting rest to Soler and Bryant...once Schwarber makes his way back in 2017 one will be demoted.

                Rotation:

                Ace. Jake Arrieta 12-7/134.2 IP/163 K/2.81 ERA/1.11 WHIP
                2. Jon Lester 8-5/134.1 IP/130 K/2.88 ERA/1.03 WHIP
                3. Kyle Hendricks 10-6/123.1 IP/77 K/3.43 ERA/1.29 WHIP
                4. John Lackey 6-5/108.2 IP/71 K/4.56 ERA/1.28 WHIP
                5. Jason Hammel 11-3/142.1 IP/149 K/2.21 ERA/1.01 WHIP

                LRP. Travis Wood 3-1/29.2 IP/22 K/4.85 ERA/1.25 WHIP
                LRP. Brandon Gomes 2-0/11.1 IP/10 K/3.18 ERA/1.32 WHIP
                MRP. Justin Grimm 1-1/31.1 IP/36 K/2.01 ERA/.86 WHIP
                MRP. Neil Ramirez 5-3/49.2 IP/56 K/2.36 ERA/.89 WHIP
                SU. Hector Rondon 3-3/47 IP/58 K/2.11 ERA/1.00 WHIP
                SU. Adam Warren 4-1/76.2 IP/91 K/1.88 ERA/.83 WHIP
                CP. Pedro Strop 5-0/62.2 IP/94 K/1.58 ERA/.70 WHIP

Pitching Skinny: Number one in every major category, now that is championship caliber. This pitching rotation is highlighted by 2016 All-Star's SP Jason Hammel, SU Adam Warren, & CP Pedro Strop. Now, not everything is golden. John Lackey has had a rough season commanding a 4.56 ERA and was a big "IF" in terms of the trade deadline. We decided to not move/demote him in hopes he can have a comeback in this final third of the season. If things do not work out in the next couple of starts for Lackey, it is likely he will be removed from the starting rotation and replaced with 2016 All-Star set up man, Adam Warren, who has been primed for a spot in the starting lineup for most of the season. Ace Jake Arrieta is having a good, not great season, but is still one of the top strike-out pitchers in the majors. Jon Lester has lowered his ERA into the 2's in his last couple of starts & it seems like he is settling in. Kyle Hendricks, while young, has the second highest ERA at 3.43 but he's been good enough to keep his spot in the rotation.

                Standings:

                NL Central:

                1. Cubs 70-35
                2. Brewers 50-54
                3. Pirates 49-58
                4. Reds 47-58
                5. Cardinals 44-61

                NL East:

                1. Mets 67-37
                2. Nationals 59-46
                3. Marlins 55-50
                4. Phillies 47-60
                5. Braves 40-65

                NL West:

                1. Giants 64-41
                2. Dodgers 57-48
                3. Diamondbacks 51-54
                4. Padres 46-59
                5. Rockies 41-64

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

So far my Jays are 47-27 in July 2017, leading the AL East by 4.0 over the Rays, who have proven to be surprisingly good after acquiring Jose Abreu in the offseason. The Yankees are 3rd at 8th back, with Bird and Judge having top 5 RBI seasons. They will be scary when more of their prospects hit the majors. Orioles are about 10 back despite signing Mark Teixeira, with their pitching being a major hole. The Red Sox are also having a disastrous season and are over 15 games back in the division.

The Jays are led by a strong rotation of Stro, Sanchez, Estrada, Liriano & Happ. Stro has evolved into a Cy Young candidate at 95 OVR with Sanchez not far behind, and having a strong cast of B prospects like Shipley, Greene & Reid-Foley, the team is preparing for the replacement of its 3 elderly starters.

                  Bullpen:
                  Chavez
                  Luis Avilan
                  Joaquín Benoit
                  Joe Biagini
                  Brett Cecil
                  Drew Storen
                  Roberto Osuna

Osuna is again in the conversation for Reliver of the Year, with Biagini also not giving up a run through 30IP. The team has actively been shopping Chavez & Storen to make room for some power relievers coming through the season, despite Storen posting a .89 ERA in the setup role. The aim is to keep the pitching arms as young as possible, especially with an aging offences

                  MLB starters and bench

                  C Russell Martin
                  1B Hose Bautista
                  2B Joan Moncada
                  3B Josh Donaldson
                  SS Troy Tulowitski
                  LF Colby Rasmus
                  CF Kevin Pillar
                  RF Dalton Pompey

                  Bench
                  1B Adam Lind
                  C/1B Jesus Montero
                  IF Ryan Goins
                  OF Melvin Upton Jr

Of these players, Jesus Montero and Pompey have had standout seasons, Pompey is on pace for 20 HR and 80 RBI despite platooning with Upton, and Montero has 6 homers and 15 RBIs in limited use after converting back to catcher. The team is hoping he represents a long term solution with Reese McGuire & Max Pentecost, as Maetin has had a .180/4HR/15 RBI start to the campaign, with clutch hits and incredible defence keeping him in his everyday role. The team is hoping he turns it around.

Moncada and Goins have been platooning, with Moncada posting a solid .275/4HR/14RBI. The team is hoping he continues to blossom offensively and that between him and Pompey, they will Find a new lead off man

Donaldson and EE are both battling for the league RBI and HR lead with Judge, Bird and Nelson Cruz.Bautista has had a solid campaign but continues to decline strongly, with the team keeping him on a 1year deal after signing Edwin for 3.

Rasmus has been a surprising stud after being signed to fill a Bautista's hole, as he had 12 HR and 38RBIs, proving he is more than a stop gap to Anthony Alford.

The team has been forced to consider its options after RF/3B/1B Vlad Guerrero Jr. filled In for injuries to Pillar and Bautista and posted a .400 avg with 2 homers, 5 RBI and 3 doubles in 6 games. With Alford also being MLB ready, Rowdy Tellez hitting .300 in AAA, the team is looking at a timeframe for slotting these players into Rasmus' and JBs slots after making an attempt at retaining the 2016 WS title they won.

The Phillies extend their winning streak to 15 straight games after yet another come from behind victory!

I don't know when it is going to end but I am going to ride this wave as long as possible.

Wow. Just hit a ball that was clearly foul and the umpire review cut scene came on and they called it a home run. First time I have ever seen this happen where it wasn't called foul.

It was definitely a no doubt foul ball too. Weird.

                        Rangers Update (Season 3)

Well it came to an end. We played the Angels in the ALDS and lost the first 2 games before going home and winning games 3 and 4. The return trip to Anaheim didn't go well as we lost 8-3 and thus ended our season. The Dodgers went to their 3rd consecutive World Series as they once again prevented the Cubs from ending the curse by beating them in the NLCS for the second straight year. The Mnnesota Twins played the Dodgers in the World Series and beat them 4 games to 1 to finally end the Dodgers streak. I didnt make allot of moves in the offseason, so I am basically returning the same team. Joe Girardi is now my manager and the rest of the team looks like this

                        C- Carlos Santana
                        1b- Adam Lind
                        2b- Steve Pearce (Offseson signing)

                          Rookie Mota Delivers No-Hitter
                          3 Walks All He Allowed

Robinson Mota is weird in a lot of ways. He throws 101 but doesn't rack up K's. He throws everything hard, even his curveball. He throws with a delivery that reminds you of Byung-hyun Kim's.

All of that added up to a lineup of baffled Giants hitters as the rookie dealt them a no-hitter on the day.

"I always give credit to my defense and today is no exception. They got this no hitter. I just try to give them easy balls to field, " Mota spoke with a big smile on his face.

Mota picked up a "high" number of K's, 7 in all, which brought his season K/9 rate up to 5.7. His command wasn't perfect, as evidenced by the three walks, but the sinker/four-seam/cutter combo was doing it's magic.

"He had a lot of movement on the ball today. I think that let us give up walks but not much hard all day, " catcher Tommy Cruz commented, "I was just calling for pitches mostly start them down the middle and let his arm move it somewhere else - tried to keep it simple for him."

The no-hitter lowered Mota's ERA to 1.42 in 7 starts (10 total appearances) and 50 innings of work. Needless to say, he'll get a few more starts after this performance.

The win pushed the Marlins' win streak to four games and they have won 5 of 6, most of the wins behind lock-down pitching and capable defense.
"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18

Just a quick question for the franchise regulars, do you guys use quick counts?

I'm considering making the switch as I've heard it results in your walk/strike out figures getting closer to where they should be and after playing 2 games against Clayton Kershaw in the past week, the game going a bit quicker wouldn't be too bad a thing! (it must have taken an hour per game with him on the mound and me trying to tire him out with a patient approach)

So to anyone who uses them, would you recommend it and what are the benefits? (other than the obvious time difference)

I use them, I currently have the highest OBP in the league. The number 1 reason I use them is to save time, but I also like being able to get in hitters counts more easily. It's also tough when you're getting 0-2, 1-2, & 2-2 counts against a great pitcher.

Does it essentially just put you in a random count then with either 3 balls or two strikes?
