Cespedes - Blue Jays, Phillies, Mariners

    Batista- Phillies, Red Sox, Indians
    Gomez- Mets, Phillies, Nationals

I wanted to keep it at a 3 team idea. Let me know if you think other teams. I tried to go with the best budget also. Gomez did accept his QO too.

    Also, trades;
Does Carlos Gonzalez get traded and to who?
    Puig where?
    Longo?
    Archer?

I'm open to hearing all ideas to take into account. I think I might just let the computer make some decisions on their own when I start 2017.

    Batista- Blue Jays, Indians, Orioles
    Gomez- Mets, Royals, Nationals

    Also, trades;
Does Carlos Gonzalez get traded and to who? Red Sox if they don't sign Edwin, Blue Jays if Joey Bats walks.
Puig where? Mets if they don't resign Cespedes, Angels, White Sox
Longo? I don't think he gets traded but if so probably the Dodgers.
    Archer? See Longo

On the other hand, I like him, he's a true Met and the face of the franchise. All things being equal I'd love to keep him.

What do you guys do in situations like this? All common sense points to me trading him, but my heart wants to keep him, but that will be at the cost of the franchise if he continues as he is. For the moment I'm keeping him at least up until the deadline and hoping his fortunes turn around, but when the deadline arrives I might have a tough decision on my hands.

I guess I am in a similar situation with Bautista. Obviously Wright has been a Met hero for much longer, but Bautista has been a key part of bringing good baseball back to Canada. He is in many ways the same to most Canadians. He is looking for a big pay day in the offseason and I am torn with what to do in my franchise. He's batting .241 with 24 homers at the trade deadline and has been alright but his defence has been bad and he is declining. Good luck making the 'Wright' move in your franchise!

Quick question out of curiosity. Is anybody doing a Baltimore franchise and doing as well with them in the game as they are doing in real life? I always follow them when I am doing my own franchise and they are just always in the cellar.

Aye that's what I'll do. I've put a few feelers out just to see what sort of trade I'd potentially be looking at and it's pretty decent. Hopefully he just turns it around though as surely a huge part of franchise mode is to use the players you like, but obviously that has a limit.

            Marlins July 2023 Report

            Deadline trade:

            To Padres:
            1B Russell Parrott
            RP Ken DiMaggio
            CF Alberto Costa

            To Marlins:
            SP George Hundley
            RP Buddy Meyer
            3B Pablo Sandoval

The last move the Marlins make before the deadline continues the theme of being a net seller, by far, at the deadline.

Parrott's departure makes way for Chet Doyle to be the heir-apparent at 1B once Chris Davis decides it's time to actually get old. They bring back a young reliever and solid young pitching prospect for the future in Hundley.

Sandoval at this point is a salary dump and he was given his release as the Marlins have no need for him, especially at nearly $10 million. And the veteran deserves the chance to find someone who'll play him, something the Padres weren't doing and the Marlins had no intentions of doing.

While the Marlins fans are likely confused, if not outright upset, at the team's stance this deadline season, what happened is the seeds being put in place for this generation of the team to stay together.

Boeve has already been secured. Now Doyle is in place. Campos can go back to SS and Josh Hart is in place until Arturo Gonzalez is truly ready. The freed up money will likely target Luis Heredia for a long-term deal to secure the top two spots, and probably Huff as well to lock down the whole top half of the rotation. A young lefty is brought in for when Hessman decides to move on - in the meantime, he'll get some lower stress outings while Hessman moves to setup for the higher leverage appearances.

Mattingly has a much simpler roster to work with, at least with the lineup anyway (the pitching is still clustered with a lot of arms, most of the lefty, all looking ready to go). Offensive roles are now clearly set and guys know what's going to happen when they come to the park, barring injury. Pitching roles are set for now, but who knows how long that will last in a lot of places.

The recent cold spell won't do much to calm fans who think the Marlins are just trying to coast into the playoffs instead of making themselves into World Series contenders, but the longer term is what was worked on. Short term? The Marlins are a .700 team. Even if they dropped to .620 or something mortal...is that so bad when the future might already be locked in?

            Prospect Report

Here's the Marlins' current top 10 prospects.

            1. CL Carlos Guerra - This 23-year-old closer might not have the highest ceiling, but he might be the most developed and closest to making the jump to the majors. The Marlins are might have too many lefties in the future bullpen. Guerra doesn't help that as he's a lefty closer. He's currently acing competition in New Orleans, further accelerating his timetable.

            2. SP Loren Rasmussen - Hey, look, another southpaw. This one is the classic junkball lefty that gets by on command and movement. His fastball struggles to reach the mid-80's but everything he throws moves, dips, darts, and dives. If he can continue refining control and command of his pitches, he could be Clay Huff on steroids and get through a shutout on 75 pitches.

            3. SP Robinson Mota - Here's a shocker...he's left handed. It's the Miami Southpaws at this point. The other shocker? He's still a three-digit fastball thrower...who doesn't get strikeouts. A power pitcher that plays as a finesse pitcher. That weird profile...he's made it work in brief time. He's competing with Andres Ordonez, a true control type, for playing time. Ordonez has hit the skids so Mattingly will give Mota some time for now.

            4. SS Mark Marrow - A switch-hitter, Marrow has the potential to be a tough out at the plate, but he'll need to pick up the pace a bit. This system isn't one to lag behind in. Defense is good enough to be shortstop, but the arm might be too erratic. Time will tell.

            5. CP Kevin Yaeger - Hard to call him a prospect when he has 28 saves already, but he is a rookie with just a handful of innings (37) so far. To this point, it looks like Yaeger will be the man. He's a big reason why the Marlins have their gaudy record so far, and this after an April that looked really shaky. Guerra will make his case, but Yaeger has a jump start and is making good on it.

            6. RP Ozzie Luis - Ozzie is a very interesting case. He looks like he might have been a starter at some point, but has always been listed as a reliever. He could very well be the best long reliever in the game with how much endurance he's shown. The question is: Is that an advantage...or a waste of talent and he should be in the rotation...or used as a trade piece?

            7. IF/OF Jay Craft - Jay's picked up the pace in the last couple seasons and at 23 is starting look more like a major leaguer. The defense has really come on strong, and he's likely to be moved to the left side as his cannon arm is wasted at 2B. If not SS, then perhaps an outfield spot. He really profiles as a 3B, but with Brito there, he's more likely to land at SS or outfield. If it's outfield, he might have to wait until Yelich starts to slow down or beat out Josh Hart and/or Arturo Gonzalez.

            8. SP George Hundley - The new face lands here for now. Hard to grade as he has the upside and was in AAA for the Padres, but it feels like he's been rushed, considering he had just a 3.59 ERA in AA. Jacksonville is where he'll be stationed for now as the Marlins will go slower on him than his former club.

            9. C Julian Peralta - From here down it's almost a "pick guys you like from the rest" situation. Most of them are lottery tickets, big risk with high potential reward - several guys could have filled the last two spots. Peralta is no exception. The sky is the limit...but so is the basement. It's hard to say right now which is even a bit more likely. He has two things going for him: 1) he's a catcher in a catcher-starved league, 2) he's 18.

            10. IF Eric Neal - Only thing known for sure about Neal...he has a serious arm. It's already big league quality in popping the first baseman's mitt and the accuracy is there as well. Everything else? Who knows. He could make it, and scouts are reasonably positive, but Neal's a gamble at this point. Having trouble cracking the AA lineup to even get playing time is not a positive.

                Rangers Update (Season 3 2018)

Man what a game, Ive been playing the show since 2009 and this might have been the best MOM game Ive played. Here is an update. First of all Texas and Boston met in the American League Wild Card. David Price and Cole Hamels head to head. I bombed Price, he was taken out in the 5th inning surrendering 7 runs. Hamels is cruising, were up 7-0 and then came the bottom of the 5th. Deshields (playing 2nd base) commits an error, no big deal but the flood gates open. Bottom line is Red Sox score 5 runs and Hamels fails to make it through the inning. I score another run in the top of the 6th on Cargo's second HR of the game to take a 8-5 lead. Derrick Dyer a 19 year old relief pitcher for me surrenders a run in the 6th to make it 8-6. 7th inning and Knebel for me shuts them down. 8th innng and in comes Kela. He surrenders a run to make it 8-7. Bottom of the 9th and in comes Wade Davis (44 saves 1.01 era during the season and also named American League Reliever of the year). 1st batter strkeout. Second batter, Jackie Bradley lines a double to rt center. Third batter flies out, Bradley stays at 2nd. Hanley Ramirez comes up and is on a 2-2 count (yes Ranger fans were 1 strike from advancing in the playoffs, sound familiar AKA 2011 St Louis Cardinals) Ramirez smashes a deep shot which hits a foot from the top of the green monster, missing a walk off. Bradley scores tieing the game. Davis does get out of the inning and in comes Travis Wood. Bottom line is Wood throws 3 hitless innings and Adam Lind gets the game winning hit on a triple to RT. Rangers win in 12, 10-8.
So its on to the ALDS against the Angels. In other news Rays play the Twins and in the National League its the Braves and Cubs in one match and the Dodgers and Pirates in the other. By the way Martin Perez pitches game 1 in Anaheim

Ive played 3 years now and every single year there in last. It doesnt help that in year 1 Adam Jones went down with a career ending injury. They simply cant pitch in my franchise. If you take them you might want to get some pitching

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Hey guys, looking for some advice here and/or a place to think aloud. I'm 10 games up on the Nationals with about 15 to go in 2016.

Lucas Duda is in a contract year and he's certainly performed like it. He's batting .275 with 31 HR and 85 RBI with an OBP over .400, by far the best year of his career.

Dominic Smith (a top 3 prospect in the Mets system) was hitting .270 in AAA with about 15 homeruns and 60 RBI (I don't have the game in front of me so this is directionally accurate). Since his September call up he has been hitting .250 with 1 HR and 2 RBI in about eight games. Duda is actually out for the rest of the regular season with a strained shoulder, so I'll get a pretty good look at him in the bigs.

Here is my dilemma: Duda is going to want a long term deal with big money as he is only 30 years old and coming off the best year of his career. Smith is supposed to be the future 1B, but I don't think he is quite ready to step into the Majors full time just yet. I would love to sign Duda to a 2 year deal, but I don't think he would bite at that.

Should I sign Duda long term and look to trade Smith at the deadline next year? Can I expect Duda to build on this year and turn into a 40 HR/115 RBI type of guy? Or is he going to come back to reality and be a .250 hitter that strikes out too much and can't be in the lineup v lefties? A good, but far from great, first baseman.

Or should I let Duda walk? If I go this route, do I ask Smith to step into the role and experience growing pains at the Major League level? Or do I look for a stop gap that I can sign for a year or two until Smith is ready for The Show? Will he fulfill his potential and be a gap to gap hitter who can hit .300 consistently and add 20-25 home runs?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I would try overpaying Duda for a 1-2 year deal see if he bites on that otherwise let him walk. I am not too knowledgable when it comes to the Mets status but unless you are getting ready to enter a rebuild in the next couple of years I would stay away from offering big money to someone at 30. Its not old but its also a difficult position to put yourself in.

If Duda doesnt bite then get a stopgap if you dont think Smith is ready. I wouldn't bet on Duda getting any better though at this point. Maybe staying around the same but doubtful he gets better.

Could you not sign Duda to 3 years and then look to move him after one or two if Smith looks ready to replace him or if Duda stops producing? I doubt his salary would be so high as to make him hard to trade, everyone loves a power bat.

On that point, I hate Bryce Harper with a passion. 7 home runs in a 3 game series. Disgusting

Good suggestion, I would go this route as well you may have gotten a one off great season from him but no point on overpaying him to stay.

So in my Rangers franchise, i'm 37-25, only .5 game back of Seattle for the AL West lead. So with the Season roughly 38% finished, here's how it would shape up...

AL East - Blue Jays (36-28)
                            AL Central - Tigers (36-25)
                            AL West - Mariners (37-24)
                            AL Wildcard - Rangers (37-25) & Indians (36-26)

                            NL East - Nationals (37-25)
                            NL Central - Cardinals/Cubs (36-26)
                            NL West - Dodgers (35-28)
                            NL Wildcard - Cardinals/Cubs (36-26) & Brewers (35-28)

My offensive MVP has definitely been OF Justin Ruggiano, what a huge surprise. He's hitting .352 with 10 HRs & 35 RBIs. The real story for this team has been the bullpen though. If I have a lead, it's pretty much over. Here's the numbers for my bullpen guys...

                            LHP Alex Claudio - 0-0, 1.2 IP, 1 BB, 2 K, 0.00 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 0.04 WAR, 2.40 FIP
                            RHP Tony Barnette - 2-0, 22.1 IP, 10 BB, 29 K, 2.82 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 0.58 WAR, 2.37 FIP
                            LHP Andrew Faulkner - 1-1, 22 IP, 5 BB, 29 K, 1.64 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 0.89 WAR, 1.05 FIP
                            RHP Keone Kela - 3-0, 1 SV, 29.2 IP, 11 BB, 43 K, 3.03 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 0.84 WAR, 2.16 FIP
                            RHP Luke Jackson - 2-0, 28 IP, 13 BB, 30 K, 0.96 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 0.61 WAR, 2.75 FIP
                            LHP Jake Diekman - 2-3, 24.1 IP, 14 BB, 37 K, 1.85 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 0.66 WAR, 2.26 FIP
                            RHP Matt Bush - 1-1, 1 SV, 19 IP, 4 BB, 27 K, 0.47 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, 0.67 WAR, 1.53 FIP
                            RHP Shawn Tolleson - 0-1, 13 SV, 16.2 IP, 3 BB, 19 K, 2.16 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, 0.20 WAR, 3.60 FIP

                            My starters? Not as good...

                            LHP Cole Hamels - 4-3, 86.2 IP, 35 BB, 93 K, 3.63 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 1.38 WAR, 3.87 FIP
                            RHP Yu Darvish - 5-0, 39.1 IP, 19 BB, 44 K, 1.37 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 0.87 WAR, 3.31 FIP
                            LHP Martin Perez - 4-4, 70 IP, 27 BB, 51 K, 4.37 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 0.40 WAR, 4.79 FIP
                            RHP Colby Lewis - 5-3, 58.2 IP, 22 BB, 41 K, 5.06 ERA, 1.53 WHP, 0.08 WAR, 5.18 FIP
                            RHP AJ Griffin - 5-4, 64.1 IP, 25 BB, 55 K, 4.34 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 1.00 WAR, 3.90 FIP

Overall, if I can get to the 6th inning with a lead, the game is pretty much over.

I miss pitching with Cole Hamels. Considered re-acquiring him in my Phillies franchise to really put me over the top, but what I would need to give up to get him back I don't want to give up. Haha.

Oddly enough, in my franchise, the Brewers traded Jonathan Lucroy to the Rangers in late June. Haha. Nice prediction.

I might consider this. Just started a franchise for the first time and chose the Phillies. Love their pitching but man I am struggling offensively but I love the challenge. Odubel Herrera is already on a 7 game hitting streak even though we are 2-5. I am already considering selling him next season just becausetheir outfield is so stacked.
