Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Lol fail on my part. Glanced earlier at work.
How do you eat most of a guys contract when you trade him? Is that an option this year?Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
You can't technically eat a contract, but the original poster used a sort of trick by releasing Shields and Kemp and signing them to smaller contracts (so the Sox wouldn't have the huge contracts). You shouldn't have any problems trying to resign them to small contracts if they are actually on bad contracts because the player will take less money if they aren't actually worth it.Chicago Cubs

In my franchise (not playing as either team) I traded Shields to the Sox for the original package and threw in Danks and his $14 or so million, and just cut him once he was with SD (since the Sox released him anyway). You could probably add Rollins in there since he's on the same path. I don't know what his salary is IRL, but it could work. Doesn't matter if both are cut from SD, the outcome is the same + SD is on the hook for the money, essentially "eating the contract" of Shields.
Of course, this is an option for those running 30 team control with real contract.Comment

If you're set not set on Marwin, I think grabbing Singleton would be a nice option for the Padres, but you wouldn't get Martes/Musgrove in the deal.Football Data Analyst @ Tracking Football

Playing as the White Sox, what would it take to get Cashner or Ross? Or would I be better off waiting til offseason when Cashner/others are free agents?Comment

You could replicate the real life move and get Shields who was super cheap prospect wise.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Most likely a no but I would like some input.
Tigers get
Jose Fernandez
Marlins get
Michael Fulmer
Nick Castellanos
Jose Iglesias
Christin Stewart (OF B prospect)
Spencer Turnbull (RHP Mid C prospect)

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
As an Astros' fan, I personally wouldn't do the trade, but I don't think you're too far off. Maybe sub out Martes and grab someone like Joe Musgrove? I like Musgrove, but Martes is the superior prospect and talent overall.

I ended up Trading Kemp to the Sox for Garcia and Sanchez. Fair? Shields is still on my team, any ideas where I can dump him? Maybe the BoSox, they got terrible results with Kelly and PorcelloChicago Cubs

Iglesias is redundant. He reaches free agency the same time as Hechavarria, and they are both no bat defensive SS. Castellanos is having his first ever season with a positive WAR, but he would be a decent piece. Fulmer has the look of a #2 in a pitching staff. Those other two players don't move the needle much at all.
To trade away Fernandez the Marlins would need to be floored. Other teams could offer legit packages. The Rangers could do something like Gallo + Profar +. Red Sox could offer two of Moncada/Benintendi/Dever. There are just too many teams with the pieces to offer a better package than anything the Tigers could come up with.Comment

Two years of Fernandez (after 2016) is super valuable. So this package wouldn't get it done.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
A healthy Ross starts with Tim Anderson. The Sox don't have a ton of appealing prospects left (Anderson & Fulmer). Cashner would be cheaper but it depends on how he is pitching. If its like real life probably something headlined by Michalczewski. If he is pitching lights out it would take one of the top 2 to get things started.

Yeah and better overall in the game. I was also thinking of moving short-term pieces like Robertson to acquire some more prospects.Comment

I know there's a lot of options as to Archers value. But with the Rays being a small market club not known to spend tons of money I think he can get them some nice cost controlled players. If not from the Rangers then from who ?NewYork Mets | NewYork Knicks | NewYork "Football" Giants
