YOu can play small ball and win with great pitching, speed and defense. Hello Royals and 80's Cardinals teams of yester-year.

Even in Coors Field? I might do a draft as the Rockies. I would think that unless I have aces, I'm probably not going to pitch well for 81 games, at least.

So maybe take decent pitchers and mostly prospects to try to groom, but focus on the bats. Not even necessarily power since, if the Coors effect is in the game, average power guys can poke it out.

I'm thinking that's how I'll approach it. Not sure if it makes sense in the context of MLBTS.

Agreed. I'll see if I can find something - maybe it's been answered.

If not, that totally changes Coors. It would then be a huge park to have to cover. 2B/3B haven!

Defensively, I like fast outfielders anyway, but speedy gap hitters would be order of the day.

First series done. Playing on dynamic difficulty. 3-0 gray, hamels, Richards all got the W and amassed 34k in 23ip with hamels throwing a cg shutout. Brandon Guyer looks good in the 2 hole 5/11 4rbi and 3 steals. Greg bird hit solo bombs. Kris Davis and Trevor story (5&6 hitters) are struggling mightily .091 & .100 avg. Next up 3 games at home vs Pitt.

Love the Panik pick!! Also, Greg bird is purely insane, such a fun guy to play with (through 4 games I have 3 hr & 8 rbis plus a ton of doubles with him) the bullpen is a bit shaky, which I feel your pain I'm in the same boat. Looks like a solid team though!

After starting off 3-0 and only allowing 2 runs, the Pirates came to town and brought the bats!! Dee Gordon, Colby rasmus, Nelson Cruz, a-gon, Trevor plouffe and the now injured for 2 months joc pederson. I escaped the series undefeated, but it is now clear my bullpen and ballpark are going to give me fits. 14 runs allowed, including a 10-9 victory in the rubber match. All but one of those runs came off of hr's. Sonny gray came in to shut it down in the series finale pitching 8 strong and losing the shutout in the 9th curtesy of a Nelson Cruz hr. Still managed a gem allowing 6 hits and striking out 14. Greg bird is hitting .474 w/ 3 hr and 8 rbis. My 5-7 hitters are hitting a combined .179. That's all for tonight folks.

I have a bad feeling that lefties are going to eat this lineup alive. At least most of them are not too impacted by it, but still it's something of a concern until I see differently on the field.

And, yes, vs RHP, 7 of the 8 hitters will be coming from the left-handed batters box.


Top 10 Prospects:

1. SP Julio Urias - For a young pitcher, has solid velocity and a developed mentality for working hitters and changing speeds. Just needs to refine and keep learning good habits. Could be ready now, but the team will likely hold on him, barring big steps forward.

2. SP Tyler Glasnow - A hard-thrower that's as wild as can be. However, his movement is good and when he's in the zone, he's probably an average ML level pitcher. He'll need to learn command, though, if he's going to truly thrive. His best pitch is a hard, biting curve that comes in around 82 MPH. His cutter is probably the best of his fastballs. Tight spin at 96 MPH - really can dart at the end.

3. SP Alex Reyes - Flame thrower with nasty movement. Fastball sits at 95-97 consistently. Two-seamer is hard and heavy when he throws with good mechanics. Already has swing-and-miss stuff. Just needs to develop more location in the zone, especially against better hitters. Walks may be a concern as well. Combined with his K's mentality, might burn a lot of pitches and have short outings. Some risk of not developing the stamina/efficiency needed to be a starter. Might end up a power arm in the bullpen, perhaps at closer.

4. CF Byron Buxton - Progress might be slower than desired to this point, but still a lot of upside here for a far-ranging outfielder with a plus arm. Bat has been slower to develop - probably upside sitting at a .300 hitter with gap power. Decent base stealing threat as well and a solid base runner. Will likely start in AAA, but could see time at the majors before year is out.

5. CF Manuel Margot - Quicker-than-fast, Manuel looks to have good upside as a rangey fielder with an average arm, good enough to be an above average or better center fielder. At the plate, likely a gap power type at the most with a decent OBP. Not a base stealer, but he seems to think he is and may tend to overestimate his speed on the bases in general.

6. 1B Matt Olson - This kid does one thing well, swing for power. The problem is that he has a hard time keeping his swing consistent and even, leading to bouts of next to nothing at the plate. He does judge the strike zone well and shows a surprising ability to hold up on swings if he recognizes that he's about to chase. Although he has experience in the outfield, he's likely going to end up at 1B. If he can become more consistent, he could be a threat.

7. SS J.P. Crawford - Defense will be his calling card in all likelihood. Already at least average ML quality shortstop and has plenty of time and room to grow. Bat could become a 10-15 HR power with average to slightly above batting average/OBP. Decent speed gives him a chance at some triples and sneaky on the bases if he picks his spots. Overall, could be a good-at-everything type of player, even if he never develops a standout skill.

8. 1B Greg Bird - Almost a copy of Matt Olson. Pretty much the same type of player. A bit more developed as he's a year older, but is showing a weakness against southpaw pitchers, something Olson doesn't so far. That's probably the biggest difference between them. They'll compete for 1B at the ML level.

9. CF Magneuris Sierra - Excellent speed and knows how to use it on the bases. That jumps out at you immediately. Not the best reactions just yet, but speed lets him close quickly. Could become a serious defensive threat if he refines his technique. Not much to get excited about at the plate, however. Probably a singles hitter who will thrive on OBP at either the leadoff or #6/#7 spot to try to jump start things at the bottom of the order. Perhaps #8 if he can be patient, then steal a base before being bunted over.

10. C Chris Betts - It's clear defense is his focus and that's the kind of catcher he will aim at becoming - a great receiver that can block pitches and throw out runners. The arm is already showing signs of becoming a cannon and for a 19-year-old, he's relatively polished as a receiver. Footwork is decent and can get out of the crouch to field his position. Arm is reasonably accurate, especially for his age. Just don't expect too much at the plate.

I'm finally able to get started on a franchise. I got pick #25 in the first round as the Mets. I actually need some help though, I'm not sure how to order this lineup in order to get the best out of each player. This is what I got so far.

As you can see I've created the worlds slowest baseball team. I'm not sure who out of all these guys should lead off. I ended up getting JMF just because he has half decent discipline rating. If anyone knows a second baseman to leadoff that I can trade for (not anyone on the level of Dee Gordon or Altuve) then feel free to let me know.

As far as 2nd basemen go there are some lesser options out there. Kelby Tomlinson is a personal favorite of mine 64 con R 73 con L, mid 50's vis & displine, good fielder and a low 60's speed. Only a 72 rating and a C potential but at 25 might get some decent value. Dj lamehiu is another good option, believe he's high 70's & 80 contact with 78 speed. Only a 81 rating as well but I'm sure it'll take more to snag him than Tomlinson. The batting order, I think I would put Adam Jones in the #2 hole and bump Seager to the #3 just for l/r/l/r splits.

After dropping the series opener to the Cubs 4-2 with hamels on the mound, I came back to win the series. Garrett Richards got the win and 11k over 6 innings in a 3-2 ball game. In the series finale Jake Peavy pitched 7 innings of 3 hit ball allowing 1 run over 3 hits and 9k's in a 3-1 victory. Santiago Casilla is pitching strong and notched his 5th save of the season, as Trevor Gott has emerged as my go to setup man with 8ks in 4 innings and 4 holds. The 5-7 hitters are still hovering at .200 as we go into a road series vs St. Louis. The cardinals are 7-2 and sitting a game behind us in the standings. Danks, Gray and Hamels will go up against Hector Santiago, Zach Greinke and Masahiro Tanaka to close out the road series.

OF L Joc Pederson (48/40, 80/73, 74/76, 68/10)


I have a bad feeling that lefties are going to eat this lineup alive. At least most of them are not too impacted by it, but still it's something of a concern until I see differently on the field.

And, yes, vs RHP, 7 of the 8 hitters will be coming from the left-handed batters box.


Top 10 Prospects:

1. SP Julio Urias - For a young pitcher, has solid velocity and a developed mentality for working hitters and changing speeds. Just needs to refine and keep learning good habits. Could be ready now, but the team will likely hold on him, barring big steps forward.

2. SP Tyler Glasnow - A hard-thrower that's as wild as can be. However, his movement is good and when he's in the zone, he's probably an average ML level pitcher. He'll need to learn command, though, if he's going to truly thrive. His best pitch is a hard, biting curve that comes in around 82 MPH. His cutter is probably the best of his fastballs. Tight spin at 96 MPH - really can dart at the end.

3. SP Alex Reyes - Flame thrower with nasty movement. Fastball sits at 95-97 consistently. Two-seamer is hard and heavy when he throws with good mechanics. Already has swing-and-miss stuff. Just needs to develop more location in the zone, especially against better hitters. Walks may be a concern as well. Combined with his K's mentality, might burn a lot of pitches and have short outings. Some risk of not developing the stamina/efficiency needed to be a starter. Might end up a power arm in the bullpen, perhaps at closer.

4. CF Byron Buxton - Progress might be slower than desired to this point, but still a lot of upside here for a far-ranging outfielder with a plus arm. Bat has been slower to develop - probably upside sitting at a .300 hitter with gap power. Decent base stealing threat as well and a solid base runner. Will likely start in AAA, but could see time at the majors before year is out.

5. CF Manuel Margot - Quicker-than-fast, Manuel looks to have good upside as a rangey fielder with an average arm, good enough to be an above average or better center fielder. At the plate, likely a gap power type at the most with a decent OBP. Not a base stealer, but he seems to think he is and may tend to overestimate his speed on the bases in general.

6. 1B Matt Olson - This kid does one thing well, swing for power. The problem is that he has a hard time keeping his swing consistent and even, leading to bouts of next to nothing at the plate. He does judge the strike zone well and shows a surprising ability to hold up on swings if he recognizes that he's about to chase. Although he has experience in the outfield, he's likely going to end up at 1B. If he can become more consistent, he could be a threat.

7. SS J.P. Crawford - Defense will be his calling card in all likelihood. Already at least average ML quality shortstop and has plenty of time and room to grow. Bat could become a 10-15 HR power with average to slightly above batting average/OBP. Decent speed gives him a chance at some triples and sneaky on the bases if he picks his spots. Overall, could be a good-at-everything type of player, even if he never develops a standout skill.

8. 1B Greg Bird - Almost a copy of Matt Olson. Pretty much the same type of player. A bit more developed as he's a year older, but is showing a weakness against southpaw pitchers, something Olson doesn't so far. That's probably the biggest difference between them. They'll compete for 1B at the ML level.

9. CF Magneuris Sierra - Excellent speed and knows how to use it on the bases. That jumps out at you immediately. Not the best reactions just yet, but speed lets him close quickly. Could become a serious defensive threat if he refines his technique. Not much to get excited about at the plate, however. Probably a singles hitter who will thrive on OBP at either the leadoff or #6/#7 spot to try to jump start things at the bottom of the order. Perhaps #8 if he can be patient, then steal a base before being bunted over.

10. C Chris Betts - It's clear defense is his focus and that's the kind of catcher he will aim at becoming - a great receiver that can block pitches and throw out runners. The arm is already showing signs of becoming a cannon and for a 19-year-old, he's relatively polished as a receiver. Footwork is decent and can get out of the crouch to field his position. Arm is reasonably accurate, especially for his age. Just don't expect too much at the plate.

Yeah besides the line-up being to LH I like the team overall.

Well - already a serious injury.

Greg Bird will be out up to 8 weeks with a shoulder tear he suffered after a swing in the 4th game of the season.

Matt Olson will take over 1B and Reynaldo Rodriguez will be called up to fill the empty spot on the bench.

Off to a 1-3 start. First game at Coors was a 7-5 loss in 14 innings. Marmol blew the save and then the rest of the bullpen tried to hold up, but the bats never could pick up anything and Bracho gave up a couple runs.

Now the bullpen is exhausted. Chi Chi Gonzalez will need to be on the ball and give us some innings. Severino is probably the only arm that will be available for anything but the shortest of outings.
