The Tribe of Extreme! - WWE ECW Universe Mode

I got the itch again... I thought I was completely free from it, but here I am dragged back in. This time I'm doing something I've always wanted to do but never got around to - rebooking the 2006 WWE ECW reboot. I'll be sticking to the time period as much as possible, but some elements of fantasy will be introduced in order to spice things up. For example, in this universe Kurt Angle never leaves to go to TNA, RVD never gets suspended, and some different signings are made by WWE in order to prepare for reboot of ECW (see the roster below). The idea is that this is ECW if WWE truly tried to get behind it as a third brand, plus if some unfortunate events that derailed the reboot never took place. Likewise, I'll still "wwe-ify" things and won't go completely insane. I like to keep things as realistic as possible.

Also 2 things are guaranteed with this universe

    1. I'll be really into it for some period of time
    2. I'll drop it cold turkey at some point

This has happened too many times for me to act like this time will be any different. My hope is that since this is a timeless "flashback" universe mode of sorts, I'll be more likely to come back to it in the event I do drop it.

          WWE.com
          Preview for ECW's Relaunch

The Tribe of Extreme has risen! Headed by the mastermind of Paul Heyman as well as the WWE Champion Rob Van Dam, what surprises can we expect as ECW premiers live on Sci Fi in a two hour special?

          THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

At ECW One Night Stand Rob Van Dam bested John Cena (with the help of Edge). What is the future of the WWE Championship now that it's home is the land of extreme? What will Rob Van Dam have to say now that he holds the WWE's ultimate prize, and can we expect a appearance from the former champion John Cena?

          TURNCOATS

Kurt Angle and The Big Show have both jumped ship and joined the ECW brand. Both men will be in action on the premier episode of ECW on Sci Fi.

          SURPRISES?

It would be foolish to think that Paul Heyman doesn't have a few more tricks up his sleeve. Whether it's some old names from ECW's past popping back up, or some other massive announcements regarding the future of the brand, it's safe to assume he has a few tricks up his sleeve for this show.

            On Sci Fi
            JUNE 13th, 2006

A recap of One Night Stand plays highlighting the events of the main event, where Edge helped Rob Van Dam defeat John Cena and become the WWE Champion.

The intro to the show plays. The theme song is "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor by Drowning Pool. The camera pans around the arena and we're introduced by Joey Styles and Taz to a new era of extreme. The music of the ECW GM Paul Heyman plays. Heyman comes down to the ring to a great ovation, and the fans chanting ECW. Heyman is holding a black bag that appears to contain a belt.

Heyman cuts a short promo hyping up the ECW brand, and then introduces the NEW WWE Champion, Rob Van Dam!

After some self indulgence by Heyman and RVD, Heyman reveals Rob Van Dams gift - the revived ECW World Championship. Rob Van Dam accepts and says from the bottom of his heart that he will cherish it. Heyman asks RVD what he's gonna do with the WWE Championship, when the music of Edge hits.

Edge comes down to the ring. He cuts a promo essentially stating that he can't wait to get his shot at the WWE Championship and tear the house down. RVD cuts him off. He says that won't be necessary. He already proved that he's the superior athlete when he defeated John Cena and conquer the WWE, and now that he has the ECW World Championship, he doesn't need "this spinning toy belt" anymore, and ECW doesn’t need to be part of a crappy WWE PPV like Vengeance. RVD tosses the WWE Championship to Edge and hits a Van Daminator! Edge rolls out of the ring and RVD tosses the WWE Championship out to him.

Heyman laughs as RVD poses with the new ECW World Championship.
            Justin Credible vs. Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle displays a new theme song that prevents the audience from doing the "you suck" chants, and with it a new intensity. He works a mat wrestling style and chokes out Justin Credible in no time.

            Winner: Kurt Angle in 1:46

Backstage, Rob Van Dam is giving a speech to a number of ECW originals (Tommy Dreamer, The FBI, Danny Doring, Balls Mahoney) in the locker room. He says how proud he is to be the official leader of the tribe of extreme. The ECW originals are all extremely hyped, but in the background we see Kid Kash looking on stoically as he tapes his wrists, then walks off.

Paul Heyman enters the shot. He says that in tonights main event, it’s gonna be an extreme battle royal. 10 men, with the winner receiving a shot at the ECW World Championship in two weeks.
A replay of One Night Stand shows ECW commentator Taz choking out Raw commentator Jerry the King Lawler to win their match.
            Super Crazy vs. Kid Kash

Good high paced action sees both men get about equal offense in, but in the end Kash puts Super Crazy away with the Money Maker.

            Winner: Kid Kash in 12:13

A pre taped Hardcore Holly promo plays. He says that he never quite felt at home in the WWE. He’s always felt a bit different than everyone else, a bit out of place… until now. ECW is exactly where a sick son of a b**** like him belongs, and he’s about to show exactly what he means by that when he outwrestles, outsmarts, and out-extremes The Sandman. Holly walks off screen as the “up next” graphic pops up on screen and we go to commercial.
            Hardcore Holly vs. Sandman

Both men wield kendo sticks as the bell rings and just start wailing each other. They continue to beat the hell out of each other with all kinds of weapons until a seemingly drunk Sandman hits the White Russian Leg Sweep and pins Holly.

            Winner: Sandman in 5:32

Paul London and Brian Kendrick are shown backstage getting ready for their tag team match against Stevie Richards and Blue Meanie. That match is next.
London & Kendrick vs. Stevie Richards & Blue Meanie

London & Kendrick are high energy and fast paced and wrestle circles around Richards and Meanie, and Kendrick hits sliced bread on Meanie to win it.

Winners: London & Kendrick in 3:47

After the match, London & Kendrick are celebrating, when all of the sudden we hear the very familiar pyro and music of The Dudley Boyz! The crowd and the commentators go crazy! Bubba and D-Von storm the ring and jump London 7 Kendrick, leaving them laying. They grab mics.

Bubba Ray tells the crowd to quiet the hell down. He says that him and his other D-Von aren’t back because they love ECW, in fact they couldn’t give less of a **** about ECW. They’re here because Vince McMahon called and offered them a fat paycheck to come down, whoop some ***, pop some ratings, and put some bastards through tables.

The crowd starts chanting - “we want tables!”

Bubba responds saying they were gonna put these two jabronies London & Kendrick through tables, but now that the crowd has asked it’s not gonna happen. He says they’ve already been paid for the night, and they sure as hell don’t work for the crowd. “Good night, and go f*** yourselves.” Bubba hands the mic to D-Von.

The Big Show by Sabu at 9:19

            Winner: Sabu in 9:19

              Smoove! Great debut show!

              Few things from me.

RVD literally throwing away the WWE Championship was perfect. Played well, and RVD is saying more than cool and dude!

Dudley Boyz being big heels was awesome booking. They don't care about the fans. They just want to be paid. Can't wait to see them keep developing.

Hardcore Holly is pathetic. Cuts a decent promo and gets squashed in under 6 minutes. Jobber.

I would be pissed if I was Big Show! He eliminates 8 guys, and it ONLY takes Sabu to eliminate him? Now I know Big Show has never been grouped eliminated from the Royal Rumble, but now you are bringing in a solo elimination in a battle royale!? Lol.

Awesome work! Also excited to see how Angle develops in the land of the extreme.

One question! So I think it's obvious you aren't covering Raw and SmackDown. Will there be a draft for superstars, visits like the Edge one? Curious if they are even a thing in your Universe.

Glad you liked it! On the RVD thing, I needed a quick way out of the whole RVD as WWE Champion and WWE vs. ECW rivalry, so I decided to rewrite the opening segment and just have RVD ditch the belt. I figured it puts over ECW even more and seemed like something too cool for school RVD would do. Maybe not the most realistic thing from the perspective of "would WWE allow it" but oh well.

As for the Big Show elimination, that whole Battle Royal was exactly as it took place in real life down to the elimination times! I think it was Big Guido holding on to Big Shows arm over the rope that allowed Sabu to dropkick Show and send him over the top. I left that specific detail out of course. I'll be doing a few segment copy and pastes like that early on as my Universe timeline starts to diverge more and more from real life.

Totally excited for Angle as well. That whole ECW Angle character lasted like a month but left such an impression on me. It was one of my favorite characters that never really got to be.

Good question about RAW and Smackdown. They 100% exist in this Universe, but I wanna make ECW its own self sufficient brand so I'll be avoiding referencing them a lot or doing too many crossovers. That doesn't mean I won't ever do a crossover, but I'm not planning on it anytime soon. I also only have an hour per show right now, and I'm trying to keep match and segment times realistic (I will eventually bump it up to two hours though).

Oh nice! Kind of doing what I have adopted.

I have enjoyed taking real life segments and adjusting them a bit to mirror what I want out of them!

That battle royale spot is something I have definitely done in a few of my most recent Universes. Love it!

Overall, man, well done. I'm excited to see how well this progresses from here.

                    On Sci Fi
                    JUNE 20th, 2006

A recap of last weeks show plays, especially highlighting the return of the Dudley Boyz and Sabu's win in the main event. Announced for tonights main event is The Dudley Boyz vs. London & Kendrick.

The shows intro plays, and we are then welcomed to the arena by Joey Styles and Taz.

Tony Mamaluke makes his entrance for his match with the #1 contender for the ECW World Championship, Sabu.
                    Tony Mamaluke vs. Sabu

Mamaluke gets a few good shots in, but Sabu is mostly dominant and wins with an Arabian Facebuster.

                    Winner: Sabu in 3:41

The Big Show comes down to the ring, but before he can do anything Tommy Dreamer's music hits and he comes down. Dreamer gets in Big Shows face. Dreamer says that last week, he was dominant in the extreme battle royal, and he got his first taste of what it's like to be hardcore. But to make it in ECW you've got to feel the passion of what is ECW, and if you want to make a name for yourself, you've got to go through him.

Dreamer slaps Show, and Show responds by throwing hands. Styles and Taz call Dreamer crazy and gutsy for this. Show beats the hell out of Dreamer and tosses him around ringside. The segment ends with Show choking Tommy Dreamer out with a cobra clutch.
                    Roadkill vs. Kurt Angle

For the second week in a row Angle displays a new dominant mat/submission based wrestling style. Roadkill makes a mad dash for a chair and goes to hit Angle, but gets cut off and choked out.

                    Winner: Kurt Angle in 2:10

Backstage, Hardcore Holly runs into The Sandman. Holly says that last week was a fluke, and he wants a rematch. Sandman laughs, then spits his beer in Holly's face. The two men have to be pulled apart.
The Dudley Boyz come down to the ring. They accuse their opponents for the night London & Kendrick of being soft and say they will never fit in here in ECW.

London & Kendrick come down to the ring and immediately attack the Dudley Boyz, and the match is underway.
London & Kendrick vs. The Dudley Boyz

A highly competitive tag match that tells the story of London & Kendrick trying to prove themselves. There's no weapon usage in this match, as the cocky Dudley Boyz don't feel they need them, while London & Kendrick aren't so used to that style of wrestling. The match ends with a London roll up pin on Bubba Ray to steal it after a hard fought match up.

Winners: London & Kendrick in 14:07

The Dudleyz are shocked that they just lost their first match back in ECW. They immediately jump London & Kendrick from behind. This time, they grab a couple steel chairs and start wailing them. L&K are left laid out as Bubba Ray and D-Von walk off ignoring the "we want tables" chants from the crowd.
Backstage, Hardcore Holly is walking around looking pissed off. He passes by Balls Mahoney, who chuckles. Holly gets up in Mahoney's face for laughing, then shoves him. Once again the men have to be pulled apart, and Holly challenges Mahoney to a match next week.
ECW Champion Rob Van Dam makes his way out to the ring to close the show. He cuts a promo on his opponent for next weeks ECW Championship match, Sabu. In it, he praises Sabu and puts him over, but at the same time says that with all the experience he's amassed in the past few years, there's just no way Sabu is gonna be able to hang with "ROB VAN DAM" like he did back in the day.

Sabu comes down to the ring angrily. He kicks the mic out of RVD's hand and gets right in his face. RVD holds the title high above his head as they stare down. Styles and Taz hype up next weeks world championship match and the show goes off the air.

                      Nice second show!

Big Show vs. Dreamer is a nice intro for Show in ECW.

RVD is a prick, and Sabu's age is being said which is good.

Sandman and Holly could be interesting, but more interested to see Balls kick Bob's ***!

So, is Angle doing a sleeper hold over his Ankle Lock?

RVD is a prick, and Sabu's age is being said which is good.

Thanks again. Really liking how quick these are to bust out.

Big Show and Dreamer was another copy & paste job from the real show. I think what ended up happening was that rivalry got dropped because of RVD's suspension and them having to throw the belt on Show, but now we can see it all play out differently.

I think RVD is in sorta a tweener role atm, I'm still feeling out where everyone falls as I continue to tweak the roster.

I'm glad you liked it - I thought I was taking liberties putting Holly in two segments of a 1 hour show haha. Just somehow ended up that way.

And yes on Angle. He was rear naked choking dudes around this time and it was awesome!

Hey Wiz. And thanks. Having just one show makes it so much more likely I'll make it somewhere timeline wise, plus I can really focus on each story. I sorta like the challenge of trying to squeeze all the content I want into an hour show each week, but I'm also definitely gonna add another hour and PPV's soon.

                              On Sci Fi
                              JUNE 27th, 2006

A recap plays of the events of the last two weeks, mainly focused on Sabu winning the extreme battle royal two weeks ago and then his confrontation with Rob Van Dam last week.

The shows intro plays and we're welcomed to another episode of ECW on Sci Fi by Joey Styles and Tazz.
                              Hardcore Holly vs. Balls Mahoney

A hardcore match that starts out fairly even, but sees a very angry and determined Holly take control and eventually hit an Alabama Slam onto of a pile of chairs to put Mahoney away.

                              Winner: Hardcore Holly in 7:07

Backstage Rob Van Dam is stretching in preparation for his title defense later tonight, when he’s approached by Sabu. The two men stare down. Van Dam says that once again they find themselves head to head, but this time he’s defending his ECW world championship, meaning he’s not gonna hold back one bit.

All of the sudden they’re approached by a man we haven't seen in the WWE in over a year - RHYNO!

Rhyno gets up in both mens faces. Van Dam perks up to meet him. Rhyno chuckles. He says Paul Heyman has no problem breaking out the checkbook when it’s Vince McMahon's money, and so here he is back in ECW.

Van Dam welcomes Rhyno back to HIS ECW. Rhyno laughs again and tells Van Dam and Sabu both to think very, very carefully about whether or not winning the ECW championship match tonight is worth it, because he’s back to win that belt and he’ll gore through anyone he has to in order to do it.

Rhyno walks off and Van Dam looks down at the ECW title, clearly deep in thought. All the while Sabu is staring intensely at Van Dam.
A replay of last weeks main event shows The Dudley Boyz losing to London & Kendrick.

Backstage The Dudley Boyz storm into general manager Paul Heymans office. They demand a rematch against “those two punks” London & Kendrick. Heyman tells them he was so disappointed when they lost their return match here in ECW, and he knows they’re capable of so much more. That’s why next week it’ll be The Dudley Boyz vs. Super Crazy and Psicosis, because as of right now London & Kendrick are the team to beat here in ECW, and as far as he’s concerned he might have wasted his money resigning the Dudley Boyz.

Bubba calls Heyman a pr*ck and tell him to stop acting like it’s his own money he’s spending and not Vinces. He tells Heyman that what happens to Super Crazy & Psicosis next week is on his hands, and they storm off.
Blue Meanie w/ Stevie Richards vs. Kurt Angle

Angle takes Meanie down and chokes him out effortlessly.

                              Winner: Kurt Angle in 0:21

Angle gets in a fighting stance and point towards Stevie Richards. He invites him intto the ring for a match right now, and Richards obliges!
                              Stevie Richards vs. Kurt Angle

The bell rings and Stevie Richards pulls out a kendo stick he hid where the apron meets the ring skirt! Richards swings at Angle and lands a massive headshot followed by a number of body shots to a now downed Angle. Angle has to roll out of the ring to compose himself. Richards is fired up! He plays to the crowd for a moment. A now possibly concussed Angle re enters the ring, and gets taken down by Richards! Richards mounts Angle and starts raining down punches, but Angle slips one of the punches and turns Richards around into a rear naked choke! Richards taps.

                              Winner: Kurt Angle in 1:56

Angle wrenches on the chokehold for a few extra seconds despite the ref trying to pry him off. Angle kicks Richards out of the ring and celebrates.
Backstage, Kid Kash enters Paul Heymans office. He tells Heyman that two weeks ago he beat Super Crazy in a great match, and since then has barely heard anything. He demands some recognition.

Heyman agrees that Kash has flown under the radar in the last couple of weeks and deserves more, and so next week he’ll go one on one with Kurt Angle! Kash gets wide eyed and is clearly not too happy with that matchup, but he leaves the office instead of objecting. Heyman has a huge grin on his face.
Tommy Dreamer comes down to the ring and grabs a microphone. He says that he has a lot of respect for Big Show after the beating he received from him last week, and all he has to say is "thank you sir, may I have another."

Dreamer drops the mic and gets in a fighting stance, and out comes The Big Show. Dreamer tries to jump show, but gets head butted and swatted down. Show bodyslams Dreamer, then hits him with the cobra clutch backbreaker and TOSSES Dreamers body across the ring. Show's music plays and he walks off. The camera shows Dreamer grinning as Show leaves.
ECW Championship - Sabu vs. Rob Van Dam ©

By far the best match so far since the reboot of ECW. Both men hit their signature spots. Sabu hits his chair assisted dive off the top rope to the outside. Van Dam hits the coast to coat with a chair, the Van Daminator, the barricade draped leg drop to the outside. The finish see’s Sabu miss an Arabian Face buster through a table. RVD goes for a pin, but Sabu still kicks out! Van Dam moves the rubble and goes up top for the 5 star frog splash and hits it for the victory.

Winner: Rob Van Dam in 16:08

Van Dam receives his championship from the ref, and as soon as he stands up GORE! Rhyno comes from out of nowhere and nails Van Dam, just like he promised earlier tonight. The show ends with Rhyno draping the ECW title over a downed RVD and the crowd chanting GORE! GORE! GORE!
