A couple of things I wish they had not changed...

First, let me say this is an AWESOME game. I know because I have purchased it every year since it came out. The graphics are tremendous...the stadiums, the players, the uniforms, etc. It plays like real baseball, the announcers are more varied in their banter, I have seen a lot more plays fielding than before, more variety of hits. In short, I absolutely love this game.

What I wish had not changed, and it could just be me, are a few little things that do not affect gameplay per se, but instead affect your playing the game, if that makes sense...lol.

First, in game, I am not a fan of the new way the score is shown, with the inning number being shown in between the two teams score. A little thing, I know, but it just does not have the feel of real baseball. Are any scoreboards actually like that? For instance:

    Team A 001 120 001 5
    Inning 123 456 789 Total
    Team B 000 300 001 4

It just does not look right and I don't like it.

Secondly, the new Radial thingy that shows players attributes in a kind of pie chart mode I don't like...give me numbers. If you want to do the pretty radial thing at least give me numbers at the top of each section. If I want to compare 2 or 3 players to see who performs better vs Lefty or Righty am I supposed to get out a ruler to see which section is longer for each. It is extremely difficult to tell the difference between say 76 contact vs Lefty versus 78 contact vs Lefty, so give me numbers please. Yes, I realize with more clicks I can get to the numbers but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of it.

Lastly, when you are setting your lineups up before the start of a game you used to see two straight lines(Red and Green) which represented your Durability and how tired you are. These have been replaced by a too small circle which has both colors in it and they are difficult to distinguish even on my 55" TV. The other way was perfect, this one not so much.

Everything else in game has choices like Hitting...Beginner, Rookie, Veteran, etc. How about giving us the option to choose what we want on stuff like this. Like say, Classic or New.

Bottom line, I love this game and how it plays. However, sometimes change in the interface just for sake of change is not better. That time, however much it was, could have been better spent on gameplay IMO.

Thank you for making the best sports game of all time.

    I too have a couple:
    1) I wish they had left the uni# on the player card.
    2) It seems like attributes#'s were easier to read in past years. Maybe I'm just gettin old.
    :
I like the spider graph. If they ever add a number overlay I hope it has an ON/OFF option.

The inning thing doesn't bother me at all, but I do agree about the other two. I spend entirely too much time deciphering the charts.

I also don't like the pie charts.

I wish they used the touch pad better, what is it used for again. There used to be a shortcut to a screen that showed batter/pitcher info, like what is on the pause screen but it was easier to access.

I also wish they would bring back the pan cam back to 2nd that was available when using broadcast cam for pitching.

I think what happened here is that the people who came up with this are used to sitting at their desk about 2-3 feet away from a big monitor, forgetting that most of us are much farther away from the screen.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it....

I agree with ALL of the above - however - there are three Fox Boxes on the upper left hand corner - some are better then others.

and they are 25 years old with perfect vision so they have TINY fonts to play with.

The pie charts are literally totally useless.

Yeah the pie charts are one of those good-in-theory but bad-in-reality ideas.

The small radial stats are fantastic for the base-running game and NOTHING ELSE.

Re: A couple of things I wish they had not changed...

Could not agree more. Pie chart looks nice but just isn't functional. Really hope that they hear enough feedback and give an option for the old way.

                I'll add two as well
                1) When you press left on dpad while pitching, it shows who is coming up to bat next and used to show their stats against righties and lefties. This was great to determine which strategy for warming up and bringing in a new pitcher. Now it only shows stats against current picture. Why would they take information away??? Just doesn't make sense. But my guess is to make room for radials. Not worth the trade off.

                2) When I am picking a pinch hitter, it should tell me who is pitching currently for the other team (right or lefty) so I know who is the better choice to bring in. I had an instance where they brought in a new pitcher and it immediately took me to the "you might want to pinch-hit for your pitcher" screen. I had no idea if their new pitcher was a right-hander or left handed. Not sure this was taken away but could be useful information.

Really hope these two things can get patched.

I agree with just about everything you said OP. I really dislike the pie charts thing and the fatigue color confusion.

That circle chart you are talking about with the stats you are right about. It does look nice though graphically. It's just annoying to read it like that. I really don't like how you can't see the age until you go to the player's card now. That is something I don't like either.

I imagine the UX designer does most work at a desktop monitor so the OVR/DUR circles look nice and fancy and easy to distinguish, but I have to walk up close to the TV to double-check my lineups before the game like I'm handing my lineup card to the ump at home plate.

I like the radial graphic synopsis of the player attributes, gives the game a nice updated look. If you are using it to study details then I would agree it is tough but I don't think that was its main intention. I look at it as a quick view of what does and doesn't stand out about a player. If I want to study things I just hit triangle and look at the bar graphs. The font size is what is most troubling, way too small.

Those are tough to decipher in the lineup screen, not sure those work in radial form.

I love the pie charts myself... but I'm used to them since that how the Jays do it in their broadcasts. So to me it's more authentic. I'm all for the option to not having them, but don't remove them completely.
