Because this is a privately owned forum, and this is a decision that we have made. The instructions are very simple, and we expect our posters to have the maturity to follow those instructions.

What are you telling me this for? You can do what you want, I'm just telling you why I think it is a bad policy. You can have whatever policy you want, but I am allowed to think it's wrong.

Because again, we have deal with what really happens.

Hypothetically, it would be great if users could just ignore posts and move on but that isn't the reality.

We have to work with what we're given. Not what we wish we were given.

I agree that it is annoying and frustrating, but I don't understand why you wouldn't just ignore them and move on? Why is that such a big deal to do?

I think this is pretty easy to answer. The ETA question is like fly paper for TOS violations. Much like making game comparisons or "hey dev" threads. People on both sides can get emotional, which leads to people making posts they shouldn't, which leads to TOS violations/trolling/spamming/bans/deleted posts/hurt feelings and clean up on aisle 5 for the mods (basically every single thing a site like OS would prefer to avoid).

So while some people can and do ignore it, there are many people who can't or don't and mods are forced to deal with the fallout. Just because you personally can do something doesn't mean everyone else on OS can or will. It's a false equivalence to think this is the case.

The rules here are simple and clear. They are also borne out of experience and many cycles of OSFM and many past arguments/unfortunate situations. They weren't handed down from on high with no logic or reasoning behind it. That you don't agree with it =/= bad policy.

Imo, it's common sense rules like these that make me want to come back to OS because I know it won't devolve into a cesspool of childish behavior. This sets OS apart in a positive way.

Its unfortunate that it has, again, come to this.

I would like to echo the sentiments from the users who have expressed thanks to all who are taking time out of their day to create the OSFM rosters (I would have posted in that thread but it is now locked)

Sorry, but I feel like you might be in the minority here. Iv'e been to other forums. EA Sports, 2K, IGN, Etc. And if OS was like ANY of those I would no longer be coming here.

It's a jumbled mess of non-sense, fighting, trolling, calling out and useless threads and posts. The good things get lost in the shuffle.

The way OS does things here provides us with dev interaction and a good, civil environment to talk about sports games. You wanna know why this is the number 1 sports video game site on the web? Why the devs of these games come here and interact? Because this forum is not crap, and warnings and bans are necessary to keep the integrity of this place.

To quote the great Red Foreman, "Without any rules, we'd be up in trees throwing feces at eachother"

The fact that they had to close the main OSFM thread in the roster forum and make one here stating the rules governing this forum tells you all you need to know about how out of control it was for the OSFM team and the constant barrage of "When is it going to be ready"? Going forward, they probably should just have a blanket statement at the time of The Show's release and just update that thread with any info.

I feel terrible that it's usually that thread that causes the commotion.
I try and be as forthcoming as possible as to where we are at.
In my belief that it's not right to give out info on that .....if we aren't really sure where we are and how long it would be ...as WTNY stated....I guess it causes an issue on the other side of the coin, so to say.

Guys have said the progress indicator alleviated this in the past....but that was different circumstances.

I feel bad that anyone gets banned/or flamed and also the added grief that the mods get at this time.

All in all....I think it's a great thread for the most part.

I agree with Philliefan13. I have used rosters since High Heat baseball and people need to be patient. If you have to start a franchise 2 weeks after game release it isn't a big deal. If you play this game a lot you can catch up easily with the actual regular season if that is what some of these impatient people are trying to do. Lock the thread from the beginning, if people can't wait let them use another roster.

And I will disagree with this again. There was some good questions in that thread. But they got lost in the ETA questions and the backlash from those questions. Also there was some good information posted in there as well. I think they should have it the way it was. No ETA in the thread title and don't ask for one. And update it daily. As well as give infractions to those that ask for an ETA.

Edit: Also that will lead to 100s of threads asking for the ETA for the rosters and the mods have to close all those threads. Making more work for them.

They have an automatic ban policy in effect for those types of threads so I doubt you will see them.
