Re: Elephant in the Room: AI Bullpen Usage

I agree with all the comments about AI use of the bullpen being a weak link in the game. It would be helpful if a dev could comment as to whether this is an area likely to receive a major upgrade next year or not. Is it something the devs feel confident about upgrading or is it too difficult to program?

I haven`t had much time to play since the game came out, but from what I`m seeing, I feel like this is worse this year than previously.

The "leash" is very short. I had a game last night where I had a 2-0 lead in the 5th, but I had really only connected on one solid hit. I managed a single and they pulled the starter.

Last game I had, playing against Padres as A's. Down 7-8 in the Bottom of the 9th.

Padres bring in Drew Pomeranz to start the 9th, gets 1st out.

Padres bring in Carlos Villanueva to relieve, Gets 2nd out.

Padres bring in Fernando Rodney(Closer) to Close, gets 3rd out.

        This needs to patched badly.

Same thing happened to me yesterday... I was playing against Gerrit Cole and he had a no-no going thru 5 innings... 2nd guy up in the 6th got a hit off him and next batter they take him out... He was only at 67 pitches.

          It's getting really annoying already.

I definitely agree... Hopefully SCEA does something about this.

Do you manually edit all pitcher's stamina rating for this? I like the idea and all but no way will I go through and edit attributes lol

What difficulty are you guys playing on? I play on HOF and I think manager's pull starters when they should. They always bring in the closer in a closing situation. My only beef is with innngs 6-8 after the starter has been pulled. I wonder if difficulty causes managers to act smarter/dumber.

You're on point OP. To me this is and has been the biggest weakness in the game.

I just faced a cp who went 10 innings

                        image.jpeg

Game went 21 innings in a franchise player lock game. My last at bat rosenthal threw his 180th pitch

Yes, I manually edited each team's starters as they played their first franchise games. What I did was subtracted 15 from each starter's stamina rating. So, the top stamina rating is 85 instead of 99. I think the stamina rating should be based on innings pitched per start. So the guys with 80-85 stamina are the guys with 200 IP+. Also, for middle/setup/closer pitcher, use thier stamina rating as the maximum pitches you think he should throw per appearance. A middle guy that you think should throw a maximum of 35 pitches during any given appearance, his stamina rating should be 35. A setup guy you want to limit to a max of 25, his stamina rating would be 25. All my relievers (except the long man, who has backend starter stamina) fall between 28 and 35 stamina. I get very realistic innings using the reliever stamina slider setting at 0, starter stamina slider at 4, manager hook at 5. It takes some work, but I love the results. I discovered this last year. It's not perfect, but you will find it a lot closer to realistic.

That is AWFUL. I will not be starting a franchise until this is fixed or an effective workaround is found.

So we should subtract 15 points from all SP's no matter what there Stamina number is?

Just asking cuz I'm probably gonna do this in the OSFM rosters.

If your highest rated stamina guys are 99, then, yes. Just subtract 15 from the starters' stamina rating. Your highest rated stamina guys should be 85. I know 99 - 15 = 84, but 85 seems like a better number for top of the scale. If you have minor league starters with ratings of 60-65, you can leave those alone. Make 60 the lowest rating you would give a starter. With my slider settings (Starter stamina = 4, reliver stamina = 0, manager hook = 5), a starter with a 60 stamina rating will give you a quality start of about 90-95 pitches. Oh, for the days of third-party tools that would allow you to global edit! This would be so easy.
