I must suck at hitting the pitcher with the ball because I hit the ball up the middle and usually it's a liner over his head or in the zones of the field that aren't directly over the bag but still through the middle zones of the infield.

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
Yeah I am hitting the ball better then I ever have before in these games and up the middle a lot but not hitting the pitcher a lot.Last edited by Smallville102001; 04-13-2016, 02:42 AM.Comment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
So far it has been better for me this year. Last year was ridiculous so i understand people who are frustrated with it.
I think one thing that helps is it seems like you are able to use the whole field this year. Last year I was a push hitter and it seemed like that is all I could do. Kinda limits you to half the possibilities.Comment

lol! Not exactly a bad thing...I wish I didn't hit them at all....seems like it is always an out.....Comment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
A couple of interesting things last night:
In my first game, in my first at bat, with my first swing, the ball nailed the pitcher's leg and rolled to the third base side. I think someone was punishing me for starting this thread.
In my second game I saw something I've never seen before: the comebacker hit the pitcher squarely in the head and he dropped like a sack of potatoes, pounding his fist on the ground. It actually looked really painful and he was taken out of the game, which I haven't seen happen very often.www.heyimbill.com | sports poster art and other cool stuffComment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
Nice! At least that is some what entertaining....all though that may mean there is something wrong with me....
I have a feeling that the more I get the timing down I will start to hit the pitcher more. It always starts out ok. I always hit the ball up the middle IRL so.....Comment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
Ive played 25-30 games so far and Ive only hit the pitcher once (resulted in a single) and have yet to see the CPU hit me. Probably shouldnt have posted since this is a thread of curses. I keep thinking back to watching my brother play and having Wily Peralta get hit in the head with a line drive on the 1st pitch of the season lol. No to worry, Im sure Wily's in a better place now.....Comment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
I had this happen to me three times in the last game I played. I was using Mike Leake who is primarily a sinker-baller. I keep the ball down with him as much as possible and wham! Three times he got hit with a comebacker and all three times it fell right at his feet and I was able to throw out the runner. Weird.Comment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
I'm currently taking a physics class so the thought of a research project intrigued me. Last night I started logging some tests on this. With default sliders and AS difficulty I went into batting practice. I did 4 different pitcher/hitter combinations with varying skill of both players. I did 3 rounds of bat control just using the normal swing and keeping the PCI centered except for up/down. I also did 3 rounds using the contact swing and moving the PCI to the ball. Only 2 of all those went at the pitcher out of 216 swings of the bat.
The next round I did was 'good at bat'. Same settings as before with a roster of 4 different combinations from the ones used above, 2 sessions each with a practice session to get used to the hitter/pitcher combo. In that, with 72 hits, only one of those actually hit the pitcher. I did not go between normal and contact swing doing GAB. It was all normal swing.
I know that this is just a fraction of data that would actually prove anything, but it was fun to do. I'm going to start keeping track during my season as to what the specifics are at the time when I do hit the pitcher in the future.

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
The few times it's happened, I've see it about 50/50. It doesn't go right at a fielder anymore (thank goodness). Just depends on what the ball does.
Tony Gwynn made the HoF with the "5.5 hole" swing. Maybe deflecting the ball off the pitcher just right could be the new Tony Gwynn.
If I ever get Revere again in MLB16, if he hits the pitcher, that would be more hitting than he ever did for me in MLB15. No, I'm not bitter."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
So last night I was playing vs Baltimore..Top of the inning, my pitcher gets nailed in the ankle with a 109 mph line drive..bounces off the pitcher straight into the air where my 1st baseman catches the popup for an out...Of course, pitcher just "walked" it off..
Bottom of same inning..I hit a line 100 mph+ drive off the pitchers ankle..pops it up to the shortstop for an out...Of course, pitcher was fine..
I have video to back it up..but what's the use..Comment

Re: Pitchers constantly getting hit with line drives
The first inning of the first game in 16 I hit the pitcher and was like ah damn not this again. Haven't seen it since makes me wonder if it's more frequent depending on the hitting style you use?
Haven't tried RTTS yet where it seems to happen a bit more frequently, it is crazy how we can all experience completely different things..seems like if we maybe also said what settings we use maybe we could get some consensus..Comment
