AI obsessed with making "shoelace" catches on flyballs?
It seems like to me that 90% of the catches made by the AI on routine flyballs are these weird sideways shoelace-type catches. It looks like the player is doing a Puig impression or lost it in the sun and catches it 2 feet off the ground. What's the deal? Can they not do a normal catch?Tags: None -

I see normal catches a great deal of the time.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Most of those shoelace catches are the CPU misreading flyballs, I know because I noticed those same animations when I misread flyballs too.Mets/Giants/Knicks/Rangers/Manchester United/Notre Dame Football

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

4th inning was a groundout (attempting to intentionally hit a flyball for the 3rd out of every inning isn't easy, even on directional) and there was no bottom of the 9th (score). I know the 3rd inning one is the one in question. Even taking away the moving catches, 1 out of 5 isn't what I'd call "damn near every time". Did I just get lucky?
Personally I like the flair, as long as it's not overdone . From where I'm sitting, it isn't.Comment

Re: AI obsessed with making "shoelace" catches on flyballs?
That would be twice a game if every third out was a flyball. See it much more than that, let alone counting both sides.
I don't check the CPU's ratings for defense, but I know my outfield trio is solid in defense.
Yelich: 78 Fielding, 77 Reaction
Winter: 75 Fielding, 81 Reaction
Harper: 70 Fielding, 74 Reaction
All three are playing their primary positions.
So if they are mis-reading balls that often...why? Not like I have 40-rated scrubs out there."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I don't know if you're lucky or I'm unlucky but I see it FAR more often than 1 out of 5 times at the 3rd out.

Dunno - All I'm saying is that I haven't had it happen at the frequency where I would consider it a problem. And I could post more videos showing that, although I'd like to see one from the other side so I can understand exactly what catches you guys are seeing (if it's not the 3rd inning one).Comment

It's probably one of their 3 out animations they've added in to the game this yr.Comment
