Artificial Results
Does anyone else feel like the results of your at-bats and overall games are somewhat predetermined? I am 14 games into my franchise. I started off fine, then after about 6 games things started to just not feel right. I have not hit a line drive double or anything other than a can of corn popup in the outfield for 3 games. I have not had more than 3 hits in a game for 4 games. Balls that I know I have timed right and centered up are being pulled foul or are just infield popups. I got multiple guys who are 0 for their last 15 or 20 at bats. I have been shut out in 2 of the last 3 games and was nearly no-hit in one of them. I don't mind losing, or even losing streaks, that's part of the game, but this just feels really artificial. The last game I just lost to Cleveland 12-0. I had 3 hits and 6 errors. 6 errors including 3 in a row in one inning. I can't hit a corner of the plate to save my life and pitches where I just miss my mark on the meter (I use all analog) are hitting guys or are a foot off the plate. It's getting to the point of not being fun. Is anyone else experiencing this?Last edited by Brian3113; 05-11-2016, 01:19 PM.Seattle Seahawks

Re: Artificial Results
Not experiencing this at all.
I think you need to play more games.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Artificial Results
Yeah, there's some of this going on - it's how the game balances things so that you don't have a team full of guys hitting .495 and 0.78 ERAs and your team going 178-4. Like the cliche about how every team wins 1/3 and loses 1/3, it's what you do with the other 1/3 that matters, I'd say the game feels similar: it will gift you 1/3 of games, where you win 5-0 or 12-2 without doing anything special or different, you will lose 1/3 despite playing really well, and then 1/3 of your games will be truly up for grabs, 100% dependent on how close you're paying attention. At least that's how it feels to me.
A lot of guys will cry "comeback code" and use words like "artificial" (no offense) but to me this is just what makes the game a sim: a guy like Miguel Cabrera could hit .358 or .258, the ace of your staff could be balls-out awesome and win the Cy or stink up the joint and have you considering a trade; your team could bust off a 15-game winning streak at the end of the year to win the division or you could lose 18 of your last 20 to end the year in last place. You never really know what's going to happen, that's kind of the beauty of it.
That said, just play on Rookie for a while if you're sick of losing. You'll win a lot, and easily. After you've won 16 of 17 with a team BA of .344 and team ERA of 2.05 you'll be hankering for some more "artificial" losses. It goes both ways.Last edited by NEOPARADIGM; 05-11-2016, 02:07 PM.Comment

Re: Artificial Results
I sort of see what you are saying. Though I am not complaining about losing. As I said, I have no problem with losing or even losing streaks. None of these last several games were comebacks either. Really, I don't mind comebacks either. That happens. Heck, Texas came back from down 11-6 in the 8th just last night. It was just feeling really unnatural. The 6 errors in a game, all while runners were on base, was the most artificial (there's that word) thing to me, including two passed balls to the same batter on a fastball and a slider over the plate.Seattle Seahawks

LOL Yes I do get frustrated and want to throw my controller sometimes, but you are totally right that if it was just a cake walk then it wouldn't be fun.Comment

Re: Artificial Results
I "felt" this way and was 12-17 and feeling like everything I did backfired and I never got any luck. I lose 15-4 5 games ago. Now I've won 4 of the last 5 and have given up 5 total runs and feel I can do know wrong and last night I won a 13 inning game with 3 hits 1-0.
This is just how baseball work. It's such a 50/50 game you need 162 to determine how good you really are.
With that said - YEA - I have felt that way. It's a streaky game.Comment

I had 5 in one game, then 3 the next. Then two games later DeShields, Jr. throws it to god knows who...must have been the ghost cut off man because I didn't see anyone there.
It happens. I chalk it up to the young fielders I drafted being young fielders that think harder is better all the time.
Ichiro started off at .355...now is fighting to be over the Mendoza line. Bundy gives up 2 hits...and 5 runs. Walks (including walking in a run), HBP, SF, and a timely bases-clearing double that rattled around Fenway's right field. All in one inning.
Missing the corners...been doing that too. Walks have been sky high during this stretch. It will come down, and it's not everyone as Sale has no problems locating.
What you are describing, to me, sounds like a slump. Sounds like baseball."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
