Yes, but you didn't have to aim at the ball inside did you. You simply just tap X a fraction quicker than usual. Timing hitting is essentially what it is, but with even greater control of where you hit the ball. Shouldn't be allowed online.

Re: What happened this year?
I actually have, but not for any amount of time. I don't like it. I just prefer buttons. I did think that I was getting better results, but to be fair, I don't think I was being really objective. I'd have to play for at least a dozen games or so, imo, to really compare.
I have read countless times that people switch and never look back because the results are a lot better. I should absolutely just try it though.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I'm just writin this because I am extremely frustrated with this game. I have played The Show for multiple years and I am by no means a "noobie"... I just want to know to anyone who uses zone hitting.....HOW DO YOU HIT CONSISTENLY IN THIS GAME!!!!?!?! Theres absolutely no logic to this interface....I constantly get center green perfect tming whatever you want to call it only for it to be a Line Out/Pop Up/or a Foul Ball...its ridiculous..I know its part of some new algorithim that The Show used this year because last year it did nothing like this. So my question is this...Are we supposed to use backwards logic and try to hit the ball with the left part of the wedge?? I mean someone out here has to know something that I don't! I use PCI Wedge..and I am curious.what do you guys do with this PCI..do you try and dot the ball or just place the whole PCI on the ball? I am so confused.. Someone help!
I feel your frustration. Get perfect timing and you pop or swing and a miss using directional. and zone is home run or popup/groundout.
I bat in hall of fame every mlb and my average as a team was always .300 and up so this year im kinda accepting the frustration and enjoying the difficulty.
I hate messing with sliders but What i had to do for mlb16 was lower the fastball pitch speed two clicks lower. It has helped me catch up to the inside heater cause it was impossible before with how slow the change ups are and how hard it is to recognize the change up. I still cant hit homeruns using directional for the life of me!
Also make sure you focus and dont swing at balls to get in hitters count you will get better pitches to hit.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
With Zone I will go into a slump that would last a couple of days. Even if my difficulty is the same, facing low rated pitchers, I'd have low scoring games and be frustrated. But then one day I would start hitting well again.
If you're frustrated about being in a slump and blame the game, you don't know the game of baseball. Everyone goes through slumps, it's not the games fault, it's not your fault. It's the nature of baseball. You'll go on a stretch lasting a week and rake and then go through a rough 3-4 day stretch where you can't hit a lick.

For those struggling with or frustrated by Directional hitting, I highly recommend using zone.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: What happened this year?
I agree with the sentiments of the original poster on hitting in the show. I understand that not all perfect contact/timing needs to result in a HR or a base hit, I'd just like to see it result in a hard hit ball for outs.
I found when I first picked up this years game my outs seemed to be a variety of hard hit balls, but as my dynamic difficulty increased and the game got patched i'm back to getting the same warning track, lazy pop flys and foul ball outs again. I find most of my hits and hr are actually coming from late or early contact swings while my well timed are going nowhere.
Also, to those who suggest playing with the sliders to make it easier... I find that is almost like going down a difficulty to make it easier but having it remain to say it's a higher difficulty.
Definitely getting a bit bored with the lack of variable hitting that seems to happen when you climb the difficulty levels.
I dont know what Hall Of Fame plays like and ive only reacched all-star in pitching. But, i find that for me with Dynamic between Rookie and Veteran i get a great variety. Those levels are probably way too easy for the vets up here. But for me its just right."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I use Armor & Sword's set up and I thought maybe something was up, too. To start I wasn't hitting very well, but once I got my sample size up I noticed that I was hitting fairly realistically. I still had JUp and JD hitting in the .190-.220 range, but Ian, Miggy, and VMart were all hitting around .300. Pretty realistic. I feel like most complaints stem from not building up a big enough sample size to form a more objective opinion.Nebraska Cornhuskers Detroit Tigers San Francisco 49ers Detroit Red Wings Syracuse Orange New York KnicksComment

Playing on zone. I'll square up a pitch right on the dot and make good timing. It is a pop up right to the outfielder. Now I know you shouldn't always get hits when this happens, but this happens many times to great hitters.
If I'm timing and locating pitches all game I should be rewarded for that. This is on HOF without touching the sliders.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I only play in online leagues (hate "lobby ball"), but our league setting is on HOF as well. I'd say i'm having some success, currently hitting .243 as a team with the Phillies in 81/82 games, with my best regular player hitting .298.
I'd suggest to the players having difficulty (and anyone else not doing it) to go the batting cage, select a pitcher with the pitch types described above that give you issues, take off all the PCI and Zone display crap, and practice hitting without distractions or visual cues, as in an actual game is not where you should be forming your "good" hitting habits, you bring the good habits to the game. it will help your timing and discipline and decrease your reliance on the PCI display, and instead on sight and feel. The PCI mechanic is still there just not visible.
I'd also suggest experimenting with different views, and hitting styles, to find the one that you are most successful with, the one that allows you to hit your "bane" pitch better, as I feel this year they put something in for everyone to be successful on some level, whether it be a change in difficulty or game play style, or slider adjustments. Stubbornly, some people won't make the self-realization that HOF and beyond just isn't for them, IMO. As someone said earlier, .300 is All-Star caliber, and not the expected norm.
My personal setup is HOF difficulty (last year All-star), Zone hitting, Catcher Zoom, and Broadcast fielding. I don't use visible strike zones or PCI, as I feel they distract me from watching the ball from release, and the game is just a bit more realistic to me. Without a PCI it forces me to actually take more pitches and make good decisions, especially on the edges, and to focus on pitcher release points, and swing timing/placement. That approach has helped me a lot, as I decided and utilized those tweaks would help make my "eye" even better.Currently playing:

Hahaha, I'd be super happy with .243 as a team on HoF. Especially the Phillies! That's pretty impressive, dude.
Great advice here, also.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
I highly think that you should give it a chance. Zone hitting has been great for me this year with hit variety.
In my experience this couldn't be further from the truth. I get a great mix of variety between bloopers, hard liners, ground balls, fly balls, choppers, pop-ups, frozen ropes, and others.
For those struggling with or frustrated by Directional hitting, I highly recommend using zone.
Went to check out the batter/pitcher analysis as you suggested (something I never check) and he was throwing mostly lower in the zone. So I started dropping the PCI and looking for nothing but low pitches. Any high pitches, I let go, regardless if it's a strike (except with two of course). Needless to say, I've been raking in nice hits since then.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
Personally I think it's fine, I play on Legend with zone and my team BA is around .260, normal amount of doubles/triples/HR with a few changes to sliders.
You just need to know what your doing, whereas with directional you just need timing and a ball/strike choice. This is why it sucks to have it online I kill people hitting but pitching is boring since it's mostly getting idiots to swing at change ups in the dirt and fastballs at eye level.Comment

Re: What happened this year?
Directional hitting on veteran. I just played two games. 4 total hits. What a joke. I can't pick up the ball decent so I'm mostly guessing. Anything I do manage to hit with "good" timing is an out. The fact that I manage to hit anything good is completely random. I'm about to snap the disc in half. I play every day, and I simply don't get batter. I've seen all the tutorials. It's hopeless. I hhhhhhaaaattttteeee this game.
Can I please foul off another down the pipe fastball. No? Ok, I'll just hit into another double play when I get one of my rare baserunners.
