Yeah, sometimes it seems like the game is determining "HR or not" first. If HR, then calculate HR distance and determine if to play the no-doubter scene.

If not, then I'm not sure how it figures the distance - maybe some fraction depending on RNG + PCI + Ratings.

It seems like the more "natural" way would be to determine distance on all flies (if it doesn't already, just speculating/theorycrafting) and where it lands is where ever it is.

That said, I've found Pesky's Pole in Fenway and that ball would not be a HR basically in any other park. Likewise hit a 315-foot fly ball that happened to land right on the top surface of the Monster (didn't even make the first row of those seats up there, it landed literally on top of the Monster for a HR).

Hard to tell what's going on with flyball distances. Perhaps its working in "percentage of the distance from the plate" so if you roll 95's a lot, you get warning track outs even if the physical distances would be different.

I play a few different franchise and season on all-star. Even worse with long ball outs on veteran. Most of my dingers don't come from sluggers. Guys like Stargell, Ortiz, and Schmidt are automatic outs. There is something special about a homer over the Green Monster and over the Clemente Wall.

Honestly, I think the outcome is semi determined before the ball is in play. I don’t think the ball reacts to the bat, I think the game takes the place of the pci, the location of the ball, timing of the swing, runs a probability calc, and if it comes up out, places it somewhere in the range of a fielder. That’s why you see so many balls right at the edge of a fielders range.

You don’t care where I sent this from.

Could be or at least that sets the "base" of things. One thing I noticed this year is that once the pitcher starts his delivery, you can't change the Power slider. You can change all the others, but Power is locked.

Wonder why? Could it be cause of something like this now happening or that it "preloads" the batted ball velocities based on possible results?

Moving the PCI to a place in the zone to swing is completely unnatural and doesn't represent anything like real baseball so you should really just chill and enjoy the game.....

I have to concur with this. I've been playing the show since 2009 an just recently realized the difference between Zone and Timed/Directional. Yes call me crazy.

Before I would just turn off the PCI because I never used it. After about a month or so I made the switch to directional/timed because I thought that was what I was doing anyway and guess what? My hitting is the same.

I'm one that likes the idea of the batters attributes having more impact than my ability. To me zone hitting is more arcade like. But that is just my opinion.

I don't play online. But I do see that maybe an option to only play against people with like setting may be a good idea. But like I said. I don't play online so I really can't say.

If you're frustrated about being in a slump and blame the game, you don't know the game of baseball. Everyone goes through slumps, it's not the games fault, it's not your fault. It's the nature of baseball. You'll go on a stretch lasting a week and rake and then go through a rough 3-4 day stretch where you can't hit a lick.

                Hang with em
Just wanted to Buzz in right quick to agree with this and add a bit. Just to start off wanna mention I'm a zone hitter that never moves the PCI except maybe on a 3-0, or 3-1 count. Honestly I just can't move the PCI while I'm hitting and be able to to identify strikes and balls effectively.

Anyways back to the post I quoted, this is so true is really not even funny. In my nationals chise we started out good and hot in first place after April with a 17-8 record. Then May came and the slump came with it lol. Seriously the bats just died and we went 7-22 in the month. 7-22 nothing changed in my approach or settings/sliders, just a horrible month long slump.

Stuck with it and managed to come back a bit with a 14-13 record in June but still wasn't quite hitting like I was in April. It is definitely better though lol. Currently 5-2 in July and hoping my better hitting continues. So after starting out 17-8 I'm currently 42-45 on the year with a team avg. of .230 which is good for dead last lol. But it's a far cry above the .214 avg. the slump landed me at.

Personally I have always loved timing/directional hitting, but every year I always permanently switch back to zone without moving the PCI because of horrible swings on meat pitches down the middle. Now even with zone I still miss and don't crush those pitches every time, but no where near as often and they're hit harder a way higher % of the time. If they could somehow make it where the PCI would recognize meat pitches on directional I would switch back and never look back just because I love the interface ( especially the camera movement when looking in a certain area).

Two things I would adjust first when a slump are these:

                1. Slightly change up your camera a bit. Getting a new angle on the ball however slight it might be can cause drastic differences in your results for better or worse. Even just turning your tv slightly can do this. Try just offsetting your camera( or tv) just slightly and Try a few games.

                2. Try adjusting pitch speed sliders. I know lots of people hate adjusting sliders, but after playing 100's of games on the exact same settings you can get to where your seeing the ball too well. I know that sounds contradictory, I'm in a slump because I'm seeing the ball too well? Well yes, maybe. Think about it after seeing 1000's of pitches you get to where you're seeing the ball so well at the pitch speed setting that you just plain have to much damn time to think when the balls coming. Layman's version you're trying to do to damn much lol. When this happens I try knocking the pitch speed up a notch, either I start hitting better or I have a struggle for a few games bump it back where it was and boom I'm back to hitting.

Sorry for the long winded post lol really not the norm for me. But just had to post in here. Look the slump is gonna happen, and if you don't have the slump happen or never start hitting well enough to go into a slump. Then you either have the game setup to easy or to difficult for it to be realistic anyway. I played professionally in the minors and I'm here to say this game is actually scary realistic, especially with the sliders tuned to your style of play.

That's my last point I swear lol. Sliders aren't to tune the game to difficulty level, they're too tune inn to your STYLE of play. Everyone plays differently, it's why Votto walks a ton and Mark Reynolds well... we all know lol.

Just gotta hey through it my fellow baseball lovers, if you love baseball then you have to love the grind.

Typed this up on my phone apologize in advance for any typos lol, peace.

Edit: Also if you have the PCI visible I would turn that off, but especially turn off swing feedback. I promise you'll be a much much better and less frustrated hitter with it off. And as the old adage says you're at your best when you're willing to get caught looking.

I've suggested this before and the last time some jerk blasted me. I works for me and there are a variety of angles I can hit from. Keeps the game fresh.

It's definitely the easiest way to change things up a bit for yourself, without changing sliders or settings that could possibly effect other areas of play.

If you really can't get a grip on your hitting, I have to suggest Armor Slider's.

I've been having the most fun I've had yet playing this game for the last week since giving them a shot in franchise mode. It may take a bit to get use to and I certainly didn't follow everything, but the sliders themselves are fantastic. You'll realize how much adjusting fielding and pitching sliders opens up the game in much more of a way offensively than the hitting sliders ever could.

I've had problems hitting consistently all year long lol. I was having some good performances at the veteran difficulty, but once the last patch came out, my hitting is pretty trash. My pitching has always been pretty good for some reason. Hitting I just don't have the ability to locate the baseball, pull the swing left/right and hit x. I'll be sticking with pitching for a long time lol.

The more likely reason for a 17-8 April and a 7-22 May is the Nats schedule, not a hitting slump. In April they played the Twins (twice), Braves (twice), Phillies (twice) and Marlins (twice). That is arguably the easiest month ever scheduled in baseball. Then in May they started off playing the Cardinals, Royals and Cubs, then they played the Cardinals later in the month along with the Mets and Tigers. That is a very tough schedule for May. Not that I am saying slumps don't happen, but the reason for the difference in performance in April vs. May for the Nats is largely because of schedule.
